You can tell Mark is having a hell of a time playing Lucifer (pun intended). He’s such a great actor for this character. When you have the skills to play something so well you’re gonna enjoy the crap out of it.

Especially considering that when Sam does shed tears, it's out of sadness from losing someone he cares about. *Never* has he cried out of sheer, primal terror... except in this one single scene. As someone who suffers from crippling PTSD flashbacks, not even my experience could possibly fucking compare to the shit Lucifer put him through.

I'm not gonna lie: I kind of was upset with how they wrote Lucifer as the series progressed. Part of what made him such a scary character, in my opinion, was the subtle way he used his power. Like in this scene? It's clear he could have knocked out those wardings almost as soon as he was summoned, and yet he waited. He knew the only way outta Hell was to get Sam (ideally) to consent to being his vessel again, and when the "God chose this for you" plan and the charm clearly wasn't enough, he moved onto the next phase. I missed the strategist, the tricky bastard that Gabriel took notes from. For a while, they had kept him true to form, but I felt that as Seasons 12 and 13 progressed further, the writers didn't do him enough justice; he went from absolutely terrifying, clever, cunning, and ruthless to almost a whiney teenager angry that his dad abandoned him again. (Which, fair. And Mark still made it work, but I missed the truly scary Lucifer.)
I agree, the thing that bugs me about this is that if Lucifer would have just stuck to the game plan Sam would have said yes even if his initial reaction was to say no. Lucifer being who and what he is would be smart enough to know that being patient would be key. Lucifer having spent most of creation in a cage, who let basically an entire season go by without being overly forceful because he knows Sam will say yes in Detroit. Instead of sucking Sam into the cage it would be far better for him to just turn around and say ok well you know where ill be and let Sam come to terms with what he must do for the greater good which Sam would undoubtedly do.
My thoughts on this tho was season 11once Cas took him. He did a great job at first but then that whole Cast/Lucifer and God conversation annoyed me like when Cas locked himself in his room till God forgave him was just horrible and stupid. It was one of the low points in my opinion. Everytime Mark tho played him. He still did the character right. He plays the perfect Lucifer and i only hope with this final season he does justice to the character too!!!
Yeah especially when he revealed to Sam that HE was the one to send those visions to him and not God. It just didn’t seem like a Lucifer kind of move ya know. It was stupid cause now that Sam knew Lucifer was less likely to get Sam to say “Yes” to him if Sam knew Lucifer sent those visions to him. Edit: although the scariest Lucifer in my opinion Sam Jared’s portrayal of it since playing bad guys is Jared’s specialty
The show had such a high budget and just massive feel to it with these scenes, I know everyone says seasons 1-5 were the golden years, which yes they were, but I loved season 11. It felt the most like the earlier seasons and like I said these scenes in the cage had such a big feel to them with the lighting and music, just great.
I agree. Season 11 was fantastic and I loved how it had a lot of Monsters of the Week episodes as well - and the brothers were closer than ever. I think the writers were definitely trying to make up for the disaster that was season 10.

Sam's mental struggles in season 6 and mainly 7 are amongst my favorite part of the whole series. So while I am only watching this now, it has me shaking. These two actors together are amazing. Sam crying and crumbling right there is just... gosh my heart is broken.
I think what makes this so special is that Sam never really cries like this. Even when he does, it's out of grief, out of losing a loved one; but never out of pure fear, pure TERROR. I think that's what sends chills down our spines. We indirectly realise how actually horrifying Lucifer is.
Shit makes me mad sometimes when the directors have sam bitching up to some these idiots.. ik its just the script an all, but still man.. This scene is a masterpiece. Even with not having the background on everything this scene is still terrifying as fuck, like holy hell. The Rapey comments and undertones Lucifer makes, Sams clear fear and disgust towards him, him being locked in a cage with a dangerous person stronger than him, giving him rape vibes. Sam backing away from him with his hands held out as if he’s gonna defend himself, then Lucifer speaking in that low whispering voice talking to Sam. It’s all creepy as fuck, even without having all the background information. But it’s even worse when u do. We all know they were in the cage together for years, causing major ptsd from Sam. The hallucinations, the gross comments lucifer makes, the fact we have no idea about everything that happened while in the cage, Lucifers obsession with Sam, him making sly remarks as if something rapey did happened in the cage, it’s all just so unsettling, especially knowing how much Sam was affected before and how he begins to cry if you watch closely in the scene. The worst part is we don’t know ALL of what happened in the cage, so thinking about it makes it worse. So well written I miss the old days ;;

And what could be worse than the only person you thought you could trust, torturing you? exactly and lucifer would gladly jump because he cared so much about sam. and because he didn't want to kill michael. it is an irrefutable canon, lucifer himself said it, he wanted to cancel the apocalypse. but Michael wouldn't listen. jumping in the cage was the only option for him.

I took that quote as confirmation that Lucifer sexually assaulted Sam. Why else would Lucifer make all these sexual innuendos towards Sam? And the fear in Sam's eyes says it all. What I don't understand is why Sam never addressed this with Dean and Cas. It seems like they weren't present for the hints and might not have picked up on them.

They never went into details when it was about Sam's time in hell with Lucifer, they even gave us this "Funny" Halucifer in S7, maybe to change our perception about Lucifer? And here in S11 Sam was able to face Lucifer easily gaving us that "false" feeling that Sam's situation "Wasn't that bad" But if you really look into it, things get worse. I mean, SPN by its own its dark, but if they would decided to go more into Sam and Lucifer's story arc it would get too much deep darker. I think Sam's reaction about Lucifer makes more sense in S13 Jared/Sam shows more fear and rejection towards Lucifer, we can see how terrify he is. But we have to add that it was in season 13 the writers decided to start to, at least, try showing more of Sam's PTSD and inner thoughts and Feelings. But it was kinda late and not everyone can see how fucked up Sam actully is, because the writers never show us Sam like that. They show us a bit in 7x01 and 7x02. But Then Sam didn't look that disturb. And in this Season, when Sam and Dean have Lucifer and Chuck in the Bunker, even if Sam has God's protection, a trauma is a Trauma, he should be more in denial and scare about having Lucifer in the bunker. But well, at least the writers decided to try.

It was heavily hinted to in Season 7. And by heavily, I mean pretty much just overly-shadowed to. It was never outright stated, but the show directors are wanting you to infer he was. Which, I could see plausible. 200+ years in the cage with the Devil and his brother? Unimaginable torture? Likely.

The thing that hurts me here is the fact that Sam then had to handle Lucifer in Cas's -his 2nd trusted person- body... can't imagine how hard it was for him....

God doesn't *need* anybodys help. He merely wants everyone to play their part for his fun story. If God truly wants someone dead/gone, then he will simply do it himself if he needs to, but he won't because his direct involvement hurts the story. Think of it like Eric Kripke (if he were still in charge) wanting a certain character removed from supernatural. Who's going to stop him? He is the creator of the show. *Maybe* the only character he might have a problem truly getting rid of is Death, because well, death is kinda important not just for his show, but also for the concept of life itself, even in our world. Not even he can change that fact.

But he had to, Sam said earlier that Amara's plan was to destroy every one of God's creation, pointing out that that included Lucifer. So of course he had to help, or else he would be destroyed too.
I think people overlook that this was technically the first time we've seen the real Lucifer since Season 5 ending. For him he's been in the cage at two different times in his life. 1 was when he was put there by God and knowing the one day he would be set free to start the apocalypse, 2 was when it failed and he was put in there with no ending in sight. Living in a hell knowing you'll get out, for an immortal being, is nothing, but doing it knowing you'll never get out would have to twist you as a character. Turning you a bit more insane than when you believed all of it was for you to succeed and take over the Universe.

S11 did have almost as much fillers as S7.. the darkness plot fell flat big time

Sam's mental struggles in season 6 and mainly 7 are amongst my favorite part of the whole series. So while I am only watching this now, it has me shaking. These two actors together are amazing. Sam crying and crumbling right there is just... gosh my heart is broken.

I think what makes this so special is that Sam never really cries like this. Even when he does, it's out of grief, out of losing a loved one; but never out of pure fear, pure TERROR. I think that's what sends chills down our spines. We indirectly realise how actually horrifying Lucifer is.

Ugh the writing for this plot twist was so clever!! Like that situation was literally Sam's worst nightmare and they manipulated it to fit the storyline perfectly...
This scene is a masterpiece. Even with not having the background on everything this scene is still terrifying as fuck, like holy hell. The Rapey comments and undertones Lucifer makes, Sams clear fear and disgust towards him, him being locked in a cage with a dangerous person stronger than him, giving him rape vibes. Sam backing away from him with his hands held out as if he’s gonna defend himself, then Lucifer speaking in that low whispering voice talking to Sam. It’s all creepy as fuck, even without having all the background information. But it’s even worse when u do. We all know they were in the cage together for years, causing major ptsd from Sam. The hallucinations, the gross comments lucifer makes, the fact we have no idea about everything that happened while in the cage, Lucifers obsession with Sam, him making sly remarks as if something rapey did happened in the cage, it’s all just so unsettling, especially knowing how much Sam was affected before and how he begins to cry if you watch closely in the scene. The worst part is we don’t know ALL of what happened in the cage, so thinking about it makes it worse. So well written

They never went into details when it was about Sam's time in hell with Lucifer, they even gave us this "Funny" Halucifer in S7, maybe to change our perception about Lucifer? And here in S11 Sam was able to face Lucifer easily gaving us that "false" feeling that Sam's situation "Wasn't that bad" But if you really look into it, things get worse.
I mean, SPN by its own its dark, but if they would decided to go more into Sam and Lucifer's story arc it would get too much deep darker.
I think Sam's reaction about Lucifer makes more sense in S13 Jared/Sam shows more fear and rejection towards Lucifer, we can see how terrify he is.
But we have to add that it was in season 13 the writers decided to start to, at least, try showing more of Sam's PTSD and inner thoughts and Feelings. But it was kinda late and not everyone can see how fucked up Sam actully is, because the writers never show us Sam like that. They show us a bit in 7x01 and 7x02. But Then Sam didn't look that disturb. And in this Season, when Sam and Dean have Lucifer and Chuck in the Bunker, even if Sam has God's protection, a trauma is a Trauma, he should be more in denial and scare about having Lucifer in the bunker.
But well, at least the writers decided to try.

God doesn't *need* anybodys help. He merely wants everyone to play their part for his fun story. If God truly wants someone dead/gone, then he will simply do it himself if he needs to, but he won't because his direct involvement hurts the story.

I think people overlook that this was technically the first time we've seen the real Lucifer since Season 5 ending. For him he's been in the cage at two different times in his life. 1 was when he was put there by God and knowing the one day he would be set free to start the apocalypse, 2 was when it failed and he was put in there with no ending in sight. Living in a hell knowing you'll get out, for an immortal being, is nothing, but doing it knowing you'll never get out would have to twist you as a character. Turning you a bit more insane than when you believed all of it was for you to succeed and take over the Universe.
