    I have both ssd, and a slow external HDD . The occasional freeze only happens on the games stored on the HDD. My take on it is this if your game needs to go to storage for something it will make a big difference in the stability of the game, but not the overall frame rate.

      yep, i hear people saying "it doesnt matter past the loading screen" but that is further from the truth. i remember gaming on my old pc with a hdd and in games like fortnite for example, i would have insane stutters, hitches, textures would take FOREVER to load (like i would drop from the bus, and by the time i'm near the ground the textures/meshes still havent loaded and something 10 meters infront of me looks like it is using a low LOD mesh for something way across the map)

      @@isatntt That's exactly what happened to me too. Maybe 3 years ago I was rocking a very budget Dell prebuilt and it only had a 1TB HDD. Fortnite just wouldn't load properly, the map looked like clay. I upgraded from an i3-8100 to an i5-8400 and I think that helped a bit, but ever since I built my PC with an SSD back in 2021 I've never had this issue.
      Fortnite may still be playable on HDD if Windows is on a separate SSD, otherwise it might not work properly. My friend has Windows on SSD and Fortnite on a secondary HDD and it seems like it's working fine.

    Your FPS won't be affected by a mechanical hard drive unless you don't have enough RAM to hold all the files the game needs. The FPS can be affected if the hard drive is corrupted other than that it doesn't matter if it's an SSD or a mechanical hard drive unless you plan on using it for something other than gaming then you are probably want to go with the SSD because it can load into Windows faster and run programs faster the mechanical hard drive.

      So what's up with the games that recommend you install on an SSD over a Hard Drive? What about the PS5 and how some Devs say the SSD is what makes superb gaming possible? I remember this one very technical demo where a Dev said, with how fast the SSD is, that is the only reason their demo was made possible and that it wouldn't be possible if installed on a Hard Drive.

    • @TheRealEclipse1

      @tomthomas3499 2 года назад

      Yeah once the system hit that max available ram it will activate paging file which can heavily impacted fps/performance, hence it will probably help having ssd, especially in modern games which requires boat load of vram and ram for that 4k texture load lol

  • @in_haunt
    @in_haunt 2 года назад +14

    I've reached this conclusion:
    I (personally) don't care about load times too much. the worst I've seen is just over a minute (less than a second over) on recent AAA games on Ultra settings. It's really not that much of a burden; a perfect use of the term 'first world problem'. currently, if I'm buying decent parts, I get half the capacity for double the cost on an SSD compared to an HDD. That ratio doesn't justify itself in my eyes, since I'm already going to be buying pretty damn good parts in other areas (currently I'm having to lower my expectations on a decent GPU, however). If the only bottleneck HDDs deliver is a slower loading time that isn't even terrible in the first place - as long as you don't lose the forest for the trees - I feel comfortable enough to let the cost to performance ratio even out a bit more.

  • @CokeVoAYCE
    @CokeVoAYCE 2 года назад +25

    based on the performance differences, would it make sense to install single player games on an HDD since it has more storage for cheaper cost and you won't have people waiting on you can take your own leisure time while in single player, and install multiplayer games on SSD so you can get into multiplayer matches and online things with your friends faster and have screens load faster in scenarios where other people might be relying on you?

    You should redo this with all open world games, those, in my experience, are the games where the minimum fps increase is most notable on an ssd. Not the case for all open world game,s but stuff like Wildlands and Rage 2 seem to run faster. This makes sense because open world games rely on streaming data stored on the hard drive ot make a seamless world with no load times. I know Far Cry 5 didn't show much, but I've seen it go up in open worlds.

    Using an SSD or NVMe drive for your games won't help the FPS you get. However using either SSD or NVme drive for your games will help them load faster compare to standard HDD.
    Course that won't help much if your playing a certain online game where you got to wait for other players before the game starts. Cause there is always someone who still uses a standard HDD for games. While you will load in before them you will just have to wait for them. lol

    it is used for everyday work, not for graphic or web designing. but I do play Fortnite on med setting and pubg mobile through Tencent.
    should i just have windows 10 64 bit on ssd and buy 120gb sata or should i install fortnite as well and buy 240 sdd sata and keeping tencent emulator on hdd.

    So my general setup is 1.5 TB 1TB HDD and 500GB SSD I store my games on HDD and send em over to my SSD when I play them and anyone who is wondering no SSD does not give you more FPS but it does remove stutter so if your computer can run the game it will remove stutter and make it smoother
    The reason a HDD makes your game stutter is it can’t read and write the files fast enough to keep up with you and the game
    Should you get an SSD? Yes
    Will a HDD do? If it’s a decent one you shouldn’t be too worried
    Final verdict for most people I recommend a good high capacity SSD paired with high capacity decent HDD for best results

I had to get an ssd for forza horizon 4 because my WD 7200rpm hdd was too slow for loading assets during gameplay. You get a message in game about it. FPS doesnt matter if you use HDD, SDD, or a cassette tape from 1970....FPS is based on gameplay and your video card...not the storage device. Sure, loading of textures will be effected, but still no impact at all on FPS...only loading. Most games work and load almos tthe same from a good 7200RPM, SATA HDD, or SATA SSD or a NVMe PCIe4 top of the line 7000Mbps M.2.... with only a few seconds difference either way. Seriously. Only if you copy and use very large files would you see benefit.

      Most computers will most likely come with both, for example, I have a laptop with 2tb HDD, and 256 SSD, ssd will always be lower however since it's so much more expensive. That said, if you are buying a cheaper laptop, the best place to save is to get lower storage and buy an external SSD (if you dont mind playing off that) a built in HDD will often be better than an external SSD. It's up to your personal preference mate, keeping in mind, if you chose to opt for an external SSD. Average price for SSD 1tb is 130, and 4tb is about 450-700. HDD 1tb is about 40, and 4tb is about 70-120

    realize q in open world games the ssd training a little bit of ram consumption and as the maps are getting heavier, the ssds do give a help in the fps if u have not are using the amount recommended by the game production, a game which is an example of this is the war zone and this has already been proven, so I also believe that the ps5 is a huge console because in addition to the ssd it has the capacity to store and deliver huge maps instantly, it still communicates directly with a console ram q in addition to being ddr6 on top of borrowing ssd space as virtual memory, Phil Spencer has already spoken out and said that he intends to use this new technology as a wild card and I believe that sony also use, in short, Fs ssd yes and it is a idiot without information and outdated who says otherwise! AH, AND BEFORE I FORGET, IF YOU HAVE A SSD M.2 ... PQ FUCKING VC N USA VIRTUAL MEMORY, IN ADDITION TO VC GIVING MORE FREEDOM TO YOUR RAM VC TBM WILL USE A SPACE Q TIMES EITHER IS NOT BEING USED , PQ QM HAS 16GB OF RAM SOMETIMES THE SYSTEM COMES 2GB, 3GB OR EVEN MORE IN CASES OF BUGADO SYSTEM QN IS DIFFICULT TO SEE! Edit, this video of the guys is from 2019, n knew what was going to come ahead and they understand pc, but n know how to learn and think they just need to use it, it looks like they don't play much, take sports and notice the fps ssd yes and in the future this will be more apparent, leave or like to share this information!

      No, a SSD's main purpose is to load files and make menu navigation feel more fast and clicky. Texture quality to my knowledge relies on RAM, VRAM, memory bandwidth, memory bus, and software which all rely on one another. On PC you do not need a SSD to run ultra textures because that is the GPUs job. A SSD does not affect performance or fidelity. RAM is very important for performance and texture quality, but RAM, VRAM, GPU, memory bandwidth, and memory bus all rely on one another for how good the game looks and feel. A SSD can, however completely get rid of texture popping since SSDs in general are blazingly fast. SSDs in next gen consoles are overhyped, but are excellent for reducing load times. The 30 series can make games look better than the next gen consoles with or without a SSD.
