I loved that show. Growing up there were few people on TV back then that looked like me unless they were butlers, janitors, field hands or foolish lackeys. Greg Morris was a role model to look up to.
I loved the original cast and still watch it whenever they air the 1st 3 seasons. The show was not the same without Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, they were my favorite. I look forward to seeing the original cast whenever they air it . I would love to meet Barbara Bain , she's still going strong in her 90's .
@@daveroche6522 ME ? oooh no brother absolutely not ! i'm from Belgium , growed in Algiers ^^ Watched turkish prison in mission impossible or other movie "Midnight express" that's all ;)
Just going through Captain Oveurs questions - "Do you like hanging 'round the gymnasium?", "Ever seen a grown man naked?", "Ever been in a Turkish prision"......and yes, some of us still ask these when we meet up for a few beers every so often. Why? Because we like silly.....
A pity you didn't mention Leslie Ann Warren (sp), who joined the cast when Nimoy did. She also has a nice resume to talk about, and it would have been interesting to compare her characterization with Cinnamon's, and the concepts behind the difference.
MI was one of my favorite series on TV and I couldn't wait to see what new piece of technology that the IMF team would use in accomplishing their missions. I never get tired of the opportunity to see any of the old reruns and though I didn't see all of the reboot episodes I thought that they were good but not as good as the original series.
As a very young man I was glued to tv when Mission Impossible show came on!😂 I loved all the episodes and the entire cast. May good Lord have peace and blessings on their souls.🙏❤️
Never seen the Tom Cruise version. I linked to watch this show in re-runs. I always like Mr. Phelps. To find out he was a traitor; seems fitting to put John Voit in that rolle.
Big fan of the original Mission Impossible and a hater of the Tom Cruise versions of it. I thought having Voight being a traitor killed it as far as I was concerned. Never watched the others because of that alone. Would love to see the IMF on late night reruns on one of the cable networks.
One of my favorite TV shows from back in the day before I was born. I own the entire series on dvd and the 2 seasons from the 80s but those weren't near as good.
Yep. Y'know, one of the funnest things about watching the original - original - Thunderbirds (not that Frakes insult) every week was anticipating which Pod T2 would be using for that mission. Similarly with MishImp, we tried to guess which way the Batsignal/carrier pigeon/dictaphone/parchment/record/shoephone/tape/U.N.C.L.E. pen/whatever would self-destruct that week. GREAT! Plus Lalos music - still legend. As for Cruises effort - ugh! No thanks - "All spectacle, zero joy".
I watched the show, as a kid, and really liked it, I mean how could you forget the theme song. I went to see the first Mission Impossible movie and thought it was really good, and it played an updated version of the theme song a few times throughout. This show was iconic, for its time. The first three seasons were the best. The show after that, was still very good, but the ratings slipped when Landau and Bain left. Still worh watching, even today.
Always amazed me when Spock, sorry, '"Paris" or Rollin put the mask 'n wig on, it also changed his B.M.I., height, accent/voice, distinguishing features, hands, shoe size, strength, socks - everything. Wow!
My father and I would watch MI quite a bit because he went to school with Peter Lupus here in Indianapolis. My dad would comment that they never gave Peter any lines to speak other than an occasional “Right Jim”.
We loved Peter as ever-so-slightly-dopey Norberg in the Police Squad series (yep, 1982 - a good year). Myself and my eldest STILL sometimes spontaneously do that 'stop-moving-or-speaking-like-it's-a-freezeframe' moment - pretty much drives everyone else bonkers so it's FUN! Real Fun - great series (and movies)!
I was really little when this was on; Mission Impossible, Mod Squaud & Star Trek form some of my "oldest" tv memories where I could follow the story lines I was like 5 or 6; & now that i think about that these shows would come to be the bases of the type of tv & movies I would love as a person. I thank pluto tv for dedicating a 1966 Mission Impossible channel...even tho i have the full tv series on dvd...Barbara Bain made Mission Impossible...no other female replacement had her talent and demeanor... Loved this series growing up and now growing older...
Love the TV show, hated the movie. I say movie because I tried to watch the first one and did NOT like it. It was a bunch of "flash" and seemed more about Tom than the actual story line that had been laid by the series. Hollywood seems to not have any new ideas, but only piggy-backs off of very well made TV shows.
Quite possibly the best TV show ever made. The difference between the version with Cruise is like the difference between eating top cuisine and looking in the garbage bin for scraps. No comparison.
The new versions of Mission impossible, unlike the original TV series is basically over enhanced with CG (Computer graphics) the script has the characters doing the most ridiculous and physically impossible stunts, after a short while of watching them you lose interest. The original series was written plots that built up the suspense to the end, while maintaining a story line that kept your attention. Having the full TV DVD series, is a trip back in time ,when imagination and creative writing, ruled good TV shows.
🤔 No,no .Absolutely not. The original will always be the best version!. When ever they try and remake these classic shows, they always make a real mess of it.Keep enjoying watching the best original version....................
Dang - I've now got the urge to watch a few episodes of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - starting with that bonkers one with Vincent Price and the puppets (The Deadly Dolls) - pure fun.
@@daveroche6522 🤔Dave Roche, I understand where you are coming from, in regards to season one versus season two. But both seasons or series have there fans.I enjoy watching both, for different reasons!..
I was 16 when the show premiered, and it took me by storm - the writing, its intricate plotting, the clever use of reverse psychology, and (of course) Lalo Schifrin's music, esp. the now iconic theme. My all-time favorite episode was the 3rd one aired, "Operation Rogash". Like many long-running shows, it had started showing its age by the time Nimoy arrived, but still had its moments. By season 6-7, it had pretty much devolved into just another cop show. The reboot of the 80s was IMO pretty weak. I've only seen the 1st MI movie and haven't bothered with the rest.
I have all of this tv movie ^^the 60s and other 80s also and everyday i watch 2/3 of them ^^ The second version of this (80s version) the son of Barney collier / Greg morris (grant collier) his real son in real life is in (his father also in 3 épisodes ^^) Grettings from Belgium ;)

Mission Impossible the TV series is the best show ever. I have the entire series on DVD including the reboot 88 aeries. I do not care for the Tom Cruse films. Just like the original cast I boycott all the films. As for my favorite charter from the series I live them all but being a man I had a crush and still do on Barbara Bain. In a nut she'll it burned me up and mad me mad that the films made Peter Grave's charter (Jim) a villain. On another note: It seems to me in the films Tom Cruse is a one man show, it's all him. As for the TV series it was a team effort.
I watched the show as a kid when it was already in syndication and had a huge crush on miss Carter. As far as the movies go the 1st one played non stop in a video Store I worked at and what they did with Jim's character was utter garbage so I ignored the rest of them.
Great video, but you forgot his other big TV hit, narrating IN SEARCH OF..., replacing Rod Serling at the last minute because Serling passed away. The 1988 M:I series was mixed, as the Cruise films are, but the first three seasons of the original show are still the best of all.
I’ve just about watched every episode and really enjoy them. I thought Nimoy only played one season. Didn’t realize there was more than one woman in the series.
I loved the original and saw every episode. Probably Peter Graves was the most iconic. He was my favorite. I thought he was great in Airplane the movie.
Yes, me too, but the sequel is a close 2nd. The Tom Cruise's films a big No, no. Jim Phelps a villain! Ridiculous! Not in a million years! I watched, or rather I tried to watch another of Cruise's films only yesterday. So formulaic! So predictable! A bigTom Cruise's action movie fest. Managed 25 minutes of it, maybe 30, and then got too bored and switched off. In fact, I am rewatching the 80's series. Don't seem to find the 60's originals, but I will keep looking. I'm not surprised that they didn't like the films!
I watched Mission Impossible because it was so different from other tv series at that time. The characters were relatable and the episodes were fun to watch. I had no real favorite character in the tv shows because I liked the whole ensemble cast. I saw the reboot and did not like the use of Phelps as the villain.
This was a scheduled weekly watch in our home growing up. The whole family, all six of us would huddle down together, glued to the tube. The spin-offs with Tom Cruise are interesting enough, I suppose. But I was definitely not down with Phelps character being written as a traitor villain in the first release.
Don't like remakes. There was an old comedian by the name of Brother Dave Gardner. He once said, have you ever heard anyone say, let's do that again. Friends once you do something you can't do it again, just something similar. Loved the original, never missed it.
I enjoyed the Mission Impossible TV series a lot and I enjoy Tom Cruise movie Mission Impossible quite a bit. Still waiting for the next Mission Impossible movie that was supposed to be out in 2022. Let's go! Is it out yet?
The original mission impossible was awesome it was a lot of suspense it was interesting it kept your attention and it kept you amused the Tom Cruise version was boring and it was just nothing like the original I won't say that it's not something to watch I will just say that it wasn't for me
Great review, the Best so far I agree Tom Cruise MI was nothing like the original. It was a one man show vs team work more lime James Bond.I wish you had covered a bit more the remake of MI with Jim phelps of the early 90s that was great too, still a bit short of the original.
Great piece! One note the photo at 7:51 is not Martin Landau with his two daughters only his daughter Julie is in it. The second photo at 7:56 does include is older daughter Suzy. really enjoyed this vid.
Agree with the OG cast about Jim becoming the villain in the movie always said that there should have been a twist at the end when Ethan was on the plane and received his next mission tape. That his name, Etan Hunt should have been deleted an replaced with Jim Phelps, making that character a code name and distancing John Voight from Peter Graves so not being the same person
I watched the original series when it was first on TV in the 60s, and I really liked it. I also watched the reboot series, and thought that was also pretty good. I really don't like the Tom Cruise movies. They have way too much CGI special effects and outrageous stunts. These were so "spectacular" that they were totally implausible and phony looking. I also thought it was a TERRIBLE idea to make Jim Phelps the bad guy in the first movie. That made me an enemy of the movies right from the get go. (Many times when people turn TV shows into movies, it seems like they have no idea what really made the TV show special in the first place.)
Loved this show! No remake can touch the original

(Many times when people turn TV shows into movies, it seems like they have no idea what really made the TV show special in the first place.)
you forgot to mention Peter Lupus was Nordberg in the police squad tv show
