Flying with Mergim is such a treat. Youll never get bored with him, in fact i think hes the only one on the plane whose noisy 🤣😎 So adorably MAKULIT..haha in a good way Anyway, miss flying PAL, the most civilized aircraft in PH, as Mergim would say
Megim's so funny he just talks on and on because he's trained himself to try to elaborate on everything he is experiencing and seeing. He's on autopilot most of the time and can just talk on and on about anything.
Taxis in Manila and Cebu are just Hilarious. They ask you How Much even instead of you asking 😂. And we all know they have a meter. As a local there's really nothing you can do but laugh about it
When a taxi driver once asked me "how much?" upon boarding his taxi at the airport parking area, I told him to please use his meter. When he insisted he won't bcoz my destination was quite far (but still within Metro Manila), I told him "Stop; I'm getting off." Immediately I filed a complaint against that particular taxi (all taxis that ply the airport route are recorded) at the aiport taxi kiosk. Then they called for and found me another taxi.
depends where I am at and my situation . if im in a rush and i have extra money to spare i dont mind. also depends who is asking. i can tell if the driver is in distress.
I think they did it that way with the jumps in numbers so that when just in case they switch to a larger plane they don't need to re assign seats, they will just fill up the blank seats and rows.
The taxi ride to the airport would've likely cost half the amount you contracted it for, but I guess that was better than having to wait for another one to come along.
I used to haggle really bad and thought of it as a badge of capability and got away with less etc. Then I realised these people are paid poorly enough compared to a foreigner and any extra they get would help them much more than the loss for me paying that little bit more. I now think of paying more as a good deed and besides compared to a foreigner the difference is just a pepsi/coke. Not like we are talking huge amounts to begin with. It is just good deeds. Haggling to the bone and realising I could have help them with their hardship (without them knowing keeping their dignity) is just heavy in my conscience anyway.
Lol, Cebu taxi driver: "How much"?😅 Baguio taxi cab drivers really are the best in the Philippines, you won't hear such questions or have to negotiate & being asked any scammy sh*t 😁 just tell them your destination & all good👍
I’ve been to Baguio around August last year and your generalization about Baguio taxi drivers is not totally accurate. The 2 out of 6 drivers attempted to scam us when they knew that we aren’t Baguio locals (we’re talking in our mother tongue in the cab). My friend called them out for attempting to scam us and explained that we know how taxis and taxi meters work. There’s also instances where the drivers would choose the longest path from the point of origin to our destination to gain more (meter-wise) when they could’ve chosen the shortest path. Ever since that happened, me and my friends would always open Google Maps and Waze to navigate and know if we’re being tricked or not.

correction sir. NAIA Terminal 2: NAIA Terminal 2 houses international and domestic flights of the country's flag carrier, Philippine Airlines or PAL. NAIA Terminal 3: NAIA Terminal 3 serves the international flights which are not handled in NAIA Terminal 1 (international flights) as well as some domestic flights.

Mergim, taxis in Cebu are different compared to Manila. You don't negotiate the price here in Cebu, you just hop in the cab, tell the driver your destination, and the meter will do the rest. Five hundred is a reasonable price though that he gave you.
He still negotiated because the driver ASKED how much he will pay. No negotiations means you hop on the taxu, the driver puts diwn the meter and off you go!
It was the driver who asked for the price, so Mergim just reciprocated, probably bec he doesnt want to negotiate further and might run out of time. Mergim knows this for sure, he's been to Cebu 3 times already and stayed here for more than a month during his first visit.
half correct. As you say, in Cebu its very rare not to use the meter except at 1:00 am at airport when all the Korean flights land. Then all the taxis queued up want negotiated price) However 500 is very expensive for escario to airport
Just wondering, why did the taxi driver ask Mergim "how much" for the taxi fare to the airport? Shouldn't it have been the other way around? Is that how taxis work in Cebu?
Nope, taxis in Cebu, even the yellow airport taxi, have meters. But in certain cases, like going to Mactan airport, some drivers negotiate for a fixed rate due to distance, heavy traffic and no guarantee you'll get a passenger on the way back. It is up to the passenger to insist on using the meter..... I'm a local ....P500 is a good rate as 1 way may cost between P350-400. Car rentals from the airport will you charge P800 going to the Capitol or Guadalupe area near the city center. Mergim is being generous with the tip to the driver 😜
I was wondering also. in Cebu, just get in the taxi and tell the driver your destination. they put on the meters. I never experienced negotiating a taxi in Cebu. if they are doing that to foreigners, that should be reported to the Tourism Secretary who is from Cebu.
@@stellaolivesucalit4948 What is wrong is wrong...In fact, its a crime/ illegal. Even if you find it reasonable or not. We should not tolerate this kind of shit. And tips are a prerogative of the person who is availing the service and not be automatically incorporated to the "asking" price. Lets not normalize this scrupulous act and simply shrug it off. If taxi drivers wants to get tips, then work for it, like be friendly or assist them with the luggage, etc. Also, nothing can replace hard work... One of the reason why ride-hailing apps flourished and eating up their market is because of this kind of scams too. PS. Its night time, no traffic and all. Seems like rush hour have died down, and don't make an excuse that there'll be no passengers that'll ride back because there will always be arriving passengers at the airport round-the-clock, its an international airport.

Everyone except the Taxi drivers --- Taxi Driver "How much?" The answer should be "Whatever the meter reads," but I get it. I appreciate the airlines taking control over the de-plaining. In many places around the world, it is a free-for-all. There are specific countries of origin where the passenger populace is outright rude when getting off the plane. I could name these countries of origin but I will forgo that. When I was there in March, same timeframe we chatted in Landers, there were no masking requirements flying into Manila, nor when I left. This was Terminal 3. Is masking just a rule specifically related onboard PI Airlines?
You should have insisted that the taxi driver should use his taxi meter instead of contracting for a certain mount, that was illegal. In that case you are being exploited by the driver. He should not ask you how much because there is a taxi meter. Never ask "how much" the next time you ride a taxi, You're just encouraging to do illegal contracting. They are violating LTFRB rules.
LTFRB at its own initiative should summon this driver for franchise violation against fare contracting to instill discipline among all erring drivers of public trans.

I think they’re competing with grab. If shorter they use the meter. So long distance is négociable. Perhaps due to heavy traffic from these cities.
