Hi Mimi! You've mentioned in a few of your videos different books and podcasts you delved into. I would love a video of your favorite resources for folks new to UX/UI. Thanks!

DL withdrew career services because I went over the timeline. I was on the part time track, and you are right it is not 20 hours a week - it is more like 40 hours. I had a dog who was in his final year of life and I had to go without sleep as I had not factored in 40 plus hours of design work. I would not recommend DL to anyone who believes DL is really interested or able to place a fair percentage of the students they take on. They contracts have all the caveats in place that allow a student to take longer then DL expects them to, so should perhaps DL should be reevaluating the timeline they propose as even they are aware it is not realistic - but perhaps it is not realistic by design and they don't have to follow through on their end of the "money back if not placed in 6 months" commitment. Holding onto to $8,000 per student is certainly profitable.

From all us non-trust-fund adults who have bills to pay, THANK YOU for the transparency. Such a refreshing video. So many bootcamp experiences/reviews don't discuss the financial decisions around this.

I WISH I'D SEEN THIS 6 MONTHS AGO. Currently beginning Phase 2 of UX Academy with DesignLab and I'm SCAREDT. Bright side: I've discovered I have time management/executive functioning troubles that I get to strengthen and develop thanks to this course!
You do exceptionally well in communicating these Bootcamp experiences. I've experienced just about ALL you've shared in DL's UXA. Thanks for being someone I can relate to in feeling overwhelmed. lol

As of now, DesignLab says the timeline to complete UX Academy (full-time) is working 40 hours per week for 15 weeks (roughly 3 months and 16 days). Not sure if that is different from when you took it or not but thought that would be helpful for others to know!

Thanks so much for this!! I will be starting UX Academy soon and have selected full time track. I did quit my job to fully invest my time to the program but am also worried whether it's just going to suck me dry in terms of time and emotional capacity😅😅. So definitely will keep your suggestion in mind about switching to part time before going into phase 2 of UXA.
Totally agree with you- you get as much out of the Bootcamp as you put in. I also believe the mentors also play a big part in how much you can learn as well. Loving your videos! 💖

@@NaturallyCi It's been going well so far. Definitely felt a lot of stress and pressure (although most of it was probably self-inflicted) in the beginning. I am finishing up my 1st project for Phase 1 and next week will move onto a 2 week portfolio design before going into Phase 2.
I'm still Full-Time. I think I've been managing it okay so far - I'm planning to utilize the 2 pause weeks Designlab gives to extend my project durations. And definitely still stand by what I said about getting as much out of the Bootcamp as you're willing to put in. (i see this just from watching how other students are doing)

I can only put aside up to 4 months of doing this bootcamp FT but I am wondering if it is doable? I'm not sure if I might need to eventually switch to part time and extending another month??? tysm!

@@hsiehweiting hi! I actually finished bootcamp around early April and just recently started a full time product design job at an agency this week :))
4 months is a bit tight to finish full time- you might get really burnt out. I finished just a little over 4 months and did feel the pressure.
I would say if youre fully committed during this time, it can be doable!

It is relieving to hear you say that you found balancing even the part time track difficult. I too work a full time job and find myself in the same shoes as you. Done with cooking/workout at full time job at 7pm! Then in bed by 11.
The only thing I can't do is scale back, I'm living at my means right now. Would you have any tips with balancing your job/bootcamp with personal life and content creation? I foolishly am trying to do it all! lol

I'm with Designlab right now and was on the FT track, and i really played myself thinking i was able to do it. It was sooo over whelming and life just got into the way so I had to switch over to PT. I'm still having trouble catching up and dealing with time management issues :(

I did a full time UX bootcamp with a full time job, totaling 70-80 hours of commitment a week. It was pre covid so i still had to go in to work and attend physical class. It was probably the most insane thing I’ve ever done in my life, and I also DO NOTTTTT recommend that to anyone. Unless you’re prepared to be burned out for 6 months straight. 💀

Hey Ashley! Great question, I don't know if I have enough info yet to make a clear argument. All I know is that it's more expensive than DesignLab, like...a lot more expensive hah, so for that it makes me a little nervous for those who may not have that in their budgets.

@@mimimichi thanks for answering! I will continue watching this video to see if you mention DesignLabs pricing. I know I don’t want to do the self-learning approach, I Would rather be in a classroom/team setting and get a more hands on approach - even if it’s virtual!
The 12 week and 24 week course at GA is like $15k 😅
