When the guy in the ad falls to the ground stuck in the chunk of plenum (It's not duct) it would have been way funnier if he had said, "Sorry, I was playing Half-Life."
The size of the pool is exactly the real issue. Getting a specific ratio of a certain demographic is not feasible if there aren't enough qualified candidates. Look at the Marvel show, Echo. Disney actually had to search for an indigenous woman who was not just deaf, but also an amputee. Acting talent wasn't even considered. A person doesn't need to be deaf in real-life to play one in a movie, but it was more about the representation than the entertainment value. The entertainment industry has one job: to entertain us. So please, "Cheque Your Messaging!" Some of my favorite actors were not white. (Samuel L Jackson, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy, Laurence Fishburne, etc.) Success in showbiz is hard. I remember when Rachel Zegler was supposed to be the next big thing, but she wrecked her own image with her unscripted commentary regarding Snow White. There's a girl who should have chequed her privilege. She got hired for a couple Disney and WB movies and she became an instant diva.
i absolutely do hate how the wokists are transgendering children and encouraging it and completely disregarding the legal age of adulthood which is 17 or 18 in most places and how some woke judges are allowing kids to take puberty blocking drugs against their parents’ wishes. Yes. I absolutely do hate it and oppose it.
Was born into an all white small Texas town. Population was 315. Watched my dad, tell me he wasn't hungry while me and mom ate. All the time. Now I know we didn't have it. I started working at 13, running cattle, working horses , bailing, and hauling hay. Then, I took the money, Home, and gave it to the family. University was never even a choice. Where did I miss my white privilege? Must have missed it working as a child. Oh well
Well, Jeffrey, it's evident to me that you didn't go to University, because you can string several grammatical sentences together to express some coherent thought.
Almost the same situation here. Single mother though with 6 kids. She did her best but didn't eat till we all ate. Got a job at 16. Started paying the house bills, buying my own clothes. Working hard and going to school. But it left an impact on me. I appreciate everything I have.
"We're 10% of the population, but want to control 90% of every field." This isn't about "diversity", it's about power. If every government, every university, every school, and every coporation supports your position, you aren't the "oppressed", you are the oppressor.
And they're not even 10%. The actual gay population is around 5%, trans is like 0.01%. The 10% figure mostly seems to come from Kinsey. But you're right, they're still acting as if they're the counter-culture when the are the culture.
Not every field. Just the fields they want. Same as the feminists. And of course, when 90% of the players in the NBA are black, well, that's merit. Nobody talking about white representation in NBA or NFL.
@@harrymills2770 What's funny is that if you use Google to search about racism in the NFL you'll find a ton of articles that talk about the how tha NFL is racist *against black people*. Americans are a special kind. Speaking of which, I know that the word Marxism gets thrown around a lot in this cases, but how come that the most Capitalist countries of the planet (the Anglos) are the countries pushing for this stuff? Do you know what Western population is the most influenced by Marxism? The French, which, ironically, are the ones who outright and openly reject Anglo-style multiculturalism.
@@cbrreezzyy69But Paul's perspective is different, he's coming from the point of view of a person In Canada who worked his was up through the entertainment industry. Chris spoke as a Film Journalist

People of the DEI spectrum who started their career around 2016, and/or started to get lots of work from that date onward is a red flag. 2016 is the year where industry and funds started to skew heavily away from merit and into DEI.
If we’re honest with ourselves, not only is Hollywood as an industry done. But so is the West. Collapse is coming… it’s not just adults who have been mentally abused but children… the country’s future.
I haven't been able to make sense of the name since "cheque" is the British for the documents making a written order for a bank to pay the instructed amount of money. At least here in the United States of America our banks tend to give us a collection of these when we open an account in the form of a "check book."
@@bodyrumuae2914it isn't British. It is the name for a cheque. Why you yanks had to change the spelling, only to make things more confusing for yourselves, is beyond me. Only in the United States do you spell cheque the wrong way. Why do you think cheque books don't exist in the UK?
@@Gambit771 According to a Two Min English article, apparently we did originally start using "cheque" when the French brought it over, then started using "check" instead. I wasn't aware that you don't have cheque books in the UK. I don't have anything to do with banking there.
As both a millennial and a straight white male, I love being blamed for literally ALL of western society’s problems. I also have a university degree in History, so I love knowing that all of that blanket blame is bullshit.
Lol, my wife and I both have been working in VFX for almost 20 years each and when we saw this commercial come out of nowhere we both got pissed off. Even knowing that these people are BS grifters I couldn't help but get angry. I'm a straight white male, she's a straight female from India and we both hate these assholes. Also we make the same salary at one larger studio and we run a C level Post vfx studio that picks up the scrap shots for tv shows and our small team even got to work on 'The Creator'. Unfortunately C post vfx studios are basically borked now thanks to reasons. Anyhoo, as a Canadian I say these people can "Take off EH!!. CHEERS!
aaa yes! the "privilege" The assumption that everyone who is male, white and straight has all the connections, all the family money, all the easy road stuff, everything without the need to lift a finger or do anything! Just like every person from Japan knows karate.
"Privilege" is the word for "you are in the job that I want, so f*** off and give me what's mine" that people who feel entitled always use. They argue that THEY should have YOUR job despite you having had to work for it because THEY want it without ever having to put in any work.
It’s crazy I was taught not to be racist. I then taught my children not to be racist. Then the government said we need to be racist so at least I get to teach my grandchildren to be racist again. The circle is complete.
I was just watching a taped show from 1979 and three out of the four commercials featured black actors and extras doing everything from car commercials to hair products. The privilege LIE is strong with this group!
Same! I've been rewatching old movies from my youth because the current offerings are just awful, and the diversity in 70s & 80s movies was incredibly obvious. TV shows too. Not every single movie and TV show, because it wasn't forced, but there was lots of it over the broad selection of offerings that were there.
@@WhiteDragon689 I never assumed I had any control over my life. Every time I tried to get ahead, some mean-spirited muppet put paid to my efforts. I eventually gave up and now I'm happier and financially better off than ever before.
These people freaking hate me, and they make sure to go out of their way to let me know that fact every chance they get. Why are they now asking me for money while simultaneously disrespecting and insulting me? At this point, it just feels like an active hate campaign.
They're not asking you for money, they're asking the government to take your money by force and give it to them. And yes, it sure does feel like a hate campaign. They're not even trying to hide it anymore.
Agreed. As a white person, I have zero tolerance left for anything DEI. It's just reparations thru guilt, and it's lowering the quality of everything. I write essays about it and send them to my family and friends, despite them all being Democrats. They need to hear the other side at least once.
I think one of the most telling statements on that website talking about this program is "At the very least, Canada's film and media industries should reflect the diversity of our fields HUB CITIES" which is to say the major liberal/progressive strongholds but ignore representing everywhere else in the country.
Entertainment went from a natural evolution toward colorblind casting to rabidly shoving POC into every available role. I blame Spike Lee, Jada Smith and "Oscars So White".
Work to make yourself valuable isn’t a trick per se, it’s the straight forward approach. Playing the victim to get an unearned handout is more tricksome.
You don't have to wonder too hard why they have declared Hollywood is in a Depression with about 25% of former studio work staff now unemployed. Here is the reason.
It's going to be interesting when the majority actively avoid anything even slightly diverse. This is absolutely fair ... we are constantly told that you can never watch anything in which you are not represented. If we're not represented, or respected, we can adopt the same standards ... unless they are claiming the right to be hypocritical.
A big part of the problem is Gen Z indoctrination. They've grown up being bombarded by this propaganda for 10+ years. It's possible Gen Alpha will be the same. When it's all you've ever known, you're not likely to question it. Eventually the individuals from these younger generations will simply outnumber anyone who experienced & remembers the actual reality of the situation. This is what they're counting on, by getting to people while young.
When I started in the business way back in the 70's, it was almost impossible to get into the I.A.T.S.E., not because of color or anything else, but because almost everybody in it was a relatives or friend of somebody already in it. I got in because I worked hard and a business manager saw this and offered me a spot! I was at the time the only black man in my location. But NOBODY treated me any different.Eventually they saw that I learned well and I was able to do everything from stage work, spots, sound, etc. All while I watch other black males and others complain that there wasn't anything out there for them. Is there racism, both benign and overt? Yes, of course there is, but It's funny how, people of color from other countries come and do BETTER than those who are born here! Yes, the abnormal lives and behaviors were ALWAYS a part of Hollywood and the entertainment world around the world! Yes< I said ABNORMAL! If it were the norm and what humans were supposed to do, then we would be made to reproduce that way and we aren't. So to say that only now there's a problem with the alphabet soup crowd isn't represented in the entertainment world is ludicrous. But a extremely small minority is now trying to dictate what the rest have to comply with.
How I got in film. Started doing background which rolled into stand-in gigs which also morphed into casting jobs on the side. I put myself out there and showed my capabilities. When I decided to jump into the production department I walked up to a AD and asked for an open PA position. Guess what, I got it. But, I still had to do background work because just working on one show doesn't always get you on another. So each time I was on set I asked. After 26 years I've worked on, I don't even know how shows. Point is, I put myself out there and went after what I wanted. The AD on that first film told me, he gave me the job because I asked for it.
100% agree. "Equity" was sold to us as: Giving the short kid a stool to stand on so they too can see over the fence. But, it morphed into: Lower the fence! Now we can't even have a movie set in Scandanavia without at least one person in dreadlocks. And, we're sick of it!!
Thank you POV. Having been thoroughly insulted by a mediocre jobbing actress, I have seen the error of my unfortunate genetic makeup and following this epiphany will immediately sell some of my privilege and overnight you the money.
Part of the problem is people are so willing to accept the "Well, back in the day..." argument about opportunity. My friend in the TV industry graduated Ryerson back in 93. While attending, he was one of the full throated NDP supporters on pay equity and the like. Once he got out and started auditioning for work, he actually had a fresh change of perspective and would call to point out how much it'd bother him to go out for a 2 person commercial, but even then (30+ years ago), it was "We need one black guy and one white guy". He'd then point out how there'd be 100+ white guys there and only 10 black guys, complaining "Why do we need to do this with EVERY commercial? It's not real and it's kinda unfair". Of course within a couple years, when he found a steady gig, he went right back to the whole progressive dogma. At that point it wasn't hurting him or his pocketbook.
These unfounded, baseless, generalised accusations of privilege really piss me off. I'm a white, straight male with severe health issues who lives near the poverty line. I grew up in a very poor household, and after leaving school I worked several shitty jobs before finding an ok one where I worked as much overtime as I could for years to save up for a place at university. I got accepted and paid for it all myself from my own money, spending everything I had. Despite my worsening health problems I did very well in my courses and graduated with a biology degree. Since then I've struggled to find even part time work, partially because of my health, but also because there are just hardly any jobs for a biologist. My "CIS white male privilege" has not bypassed the lack of jobs or my health issues, and I have a low standard of living compared to pretty much anyone else. It's not pretty. The people in that video look way more privileged and comfortable in their lives than me. I utterly resent being told I am "privileged" when I've had to fight for everything I have, and am still struggling. These people have way more than I ever will. They can go to hell with their sanctimonious preaching. It's just fantasy from ideological zealots.
There are lots of people like you out there who give their best to struggle along despite all the nastiness that life throws at them. Of course they don't receive any representation whatsoever and remain invisible. They exist and we know they exist. Don't let all that weird crap get you down, stay strong and _never_ give up!
These assholes have the gall to say a homeless white man is still privileged, so don't take the racist rants with a grain of salt. The sun will sanitize them anyways.
Right here with you brother. Mid 40’s white male born and raised poor in Canada. Took whatever crap jobs I could to raise my kids. Now my health is failing due to all the injuries I’ve had over the years. No one cares about us my man. All the best wishes from a fellow kindred soul.
My White privilege was my parents buying me a book that explained just how hard it was to make a living with just 2% making any kind of living as an actor and almost nobody becomes a major star. So I didn't pursue acting after high school.
I current work as an editor for a nationally syndicated TV show in the US. I started editing by working on a zero-budget gay music video show for free. It was a symbiotic relationship; the producer got an editor to help him make a show (when he had no budget to afford one) and I got the experience of editing a series. Since then I have told young editors of various races and genders the same thing; in the beginning work for free, but only for a producer with no budget. You get the experience, they get the editor. One of my most accomplished students was a woman. However, I am a straight white male so I must be racist and misogynous.
Clearly. Nothing worse than working harmoniously with everyone. You are correct. You are allowed work for free for someone with no money. If someone says, "Just do this one favour for me now and I'll give you all my business later." Laugh uproariously and walk away.
I just hate to see a director get the job directing just because of their color or their LBGT+ background. Kathleen Kennedy and Kevin Feige give people that are not nearly qualified to head up a project jobs because they are fill in the blank.
"T" here, and I really hate these types of people who just use their (and my) identity to hurt/insult other people. Don't give them your money please, I won't give them mine either.
I love watching you get angrier and angrier, video after video lately. The humor is there, but a raw, frayed-nerve-"I've F'fing HAD IT with these lazy narcissists!"-sentiment creeps in, line by line, shot by shot. This is NOT a criticism - far from it. We're right there with you. It's more of a "Thank you for being honest on behalf of the rest of us, because misery does actually deserve a bit of company every now and then." Cheers, Mr. Chato, and we'll see ya in the next one -
@@mwfmtnman I'm finding different figures. "Whites" still make up the majority of the USA population but have been on a decline since 2000 and one article I was reading earlier this year projects "whites" to be a minority in about 30 years.
Grew up in the 90s, some of the biggest stars were black, Blade was my thing, Spawn was a close second. Whoopie Goldberg made huge waves here with sister act, Eddie Murphy was hilarious in several comedies, Morpheus was the coolest character in the Matrix, Will smith was a bad ass in Independence day. Then you had the Asian classics, like couching tiger hidden dragon, I had a huge crush on coco lee singing A love before time, especially the mandarin version. Bruce Lee was a household name and Jackie Chan is still beloved to this day for his many excellent movies. Now people steer clear of DEI, I won't go if I smell the DEI rat near any movie or show, none of my friends will go either, when people with actual talent rose to the top, we had actual diversity, when it started to get shoved down peoples throats by Gen Z writers who never experienced anything more dramatic than getting fact checked that one time on twitter started writing the stories, it all went into the dump.
I think of the part time jobs that I worked to put myself through college. I also used the GI Bill and took out student loans. I paid back those loans. It wasn't privilege that helped me finish my degree and pay back my student loans. It was sticking with it until the job got done.
They're expecting a pat on the head and $$$$ in gov/state funding. I do hope that they're not expecting anything from the one group that it seems to be perfectly acceptable and encouraged to attack.
Your comment about "diversity," and jobs in certain fields like STEM really hit home. I was recently talking to a machinist friend of mine who was commenting that while their own company is actively trying to be more "diverse" (probably mandated) they also had the issue that NO women apply for jobs that wasn't office work. He also noted very few if any people "of color" apply for jobs like his. It wasn't like they were actively gate-keeping these positions but the people who are **interested** in these technical, labor intensive and frankly, dangerous positions all seem to look the same.
In best societies you are lucky if 30% of women go and finish a STEM college. Even if you want to employ 50% women you are lucky if you attract 10% from your total number of employees.
My ‘Privilege’ must be broken since I’ve been turned down for most jobs I’ve ever applied for. And if that wasn’t bad enough, I was ordered to work hard at those few crummy jobs I’ve had. No kidding, Every singe day I have to arrive prepared before the work day begins. Then they have the gall to officially evaluate my performance every year while HR says there well be no cost of living raises, maybe next year.
I love how very Canadian Chato is with his rant! Started off with a very calm "made me very angry" and collected "why it's uh pissed me off". Then the no-nonsense straight from the hip "fuck you" at 5:14 sent me howling. You know a Canadian is on the verge of a gloves off hulk-smash when you hear those words in that tone!! 😂😂😂
By now any semblance of care about this has flown away and whenever they come on any streaming or television, I think of only one response. F" off and get away from me.
That last line is spot on and hilarious. I rarely watch film or TV anymore. Thank God for so many other diversions. Books, video games, gardening, you name it. I'd rather not spend one dime or one second to people who hate me, my skin color and me being straight. Paul's hilariously correct here when he says the follow up video will be complaining that not enough white people are going to your fucking movies. Sorry, but the more I get called a racist and the more I'm told to check my privilege, the less I care about seeing movies or TV shows.
Why the f*** would I want to help somebody who hates everything about me and is bent on my destruction? I love your content and you’re hilarious, man. Please don’t ever stop doing what you’re doing. . . 👏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
Couldn't finish the video. I was to damn angry. I remember being hungry, working my way through art school. Nobody affirmative actioned me! I remember working 3 jobs after graduating, nobody gave me hand outs. Up yours POV.
Activists really care about some jobs, some diversity. No one is arguing that oil riggers, welders, and roofers need to be more diverse. Give me some of that sweet affirmative action on high voltage power lines. Lets see how that works out.
Don't speak too soon, we're seeing it where I live. Currently the argument getting media coverage is that we don't have enough female toilets (portaloos) on construction sites... Is there a loo? Does it have a lockable door? Can both sexes use it? OK, there may not be an attendant with a complementary mint or a puff of perfume, but you chose construction work! This has been the deal since portaloos were introduced, before then it was a hole in the ground!
Hey Chato - I'm a faithful watcher of your videos. I truly appreciate your intellectual approach to illustrate why a DEI approach is not helpful but rather harmful to everyone. You presented a logical argument with examples to illustrate how best to get into the 'business' of comedy or film. Thank you for your continued efforts to share your experiences and rationale.
I tried to check my privilege but I couldn’t find it. I’ve been unemployed, under employed, and gainfully employed. I’ve been broke and I’ve been comfortable. I’ve been laid off and I’ve lost opportunities to people more qualified than me and people less qualified than me. I’ve successfully run a business and successfully ruined another business. Nothing has been given to me, everything I’ve lost and gained has been a product of my mistakes and my hard work. I’ve succeeded and failed and sometimes, I did it right, worked hard, made good decisions and still lost. Sometimes I messed up and came out on top. That’s life, not privilege. Love the content, keep up the good fight, my friend.
Chato, we need to get you a cape and a superhero outfit of your own. Thanks for having the courage to stand up and tell the truth in a world that punishes that severely.
I think Paul is friends with Canoe Head Man. He could get superheroing tips from him! Come to think of it, I've never seen Paul and Canoe Head Man in the same place at the same time...
Most brick layers and laboring masons that I have met in this life are white and male. Last time I talked to one he said there was no push for inclusion , representation , or diversity in the profession of brick laying. I wonder why ?
I was under the impression that though out the film industry history a fair few of the top actors and film makers fit in the category that that she(?) thinks in so important.
If this campaign is anything like previous ones in the film and video game industries (looking at you Anita Sarkeesian, Zoë Quinn, et al), then keep on eye on how much funds actually go to what was pledged as well as if anything actually gets completed.
Personal responsibility is the new controversy. Does inequality exist? Yes. Should we blame everyone else for our problems? No. Are your struggles sometimes your own fault? Yes.
I'm immensely grateful to have had the privilege to grow up in a safe, well-governed society with education and enough jobs to keep me from starving. Now I live in a BIPOC country where corruption is rampant, education is poor, and jobs are scarce. Many of the kids I work with will face a life of prostitution and neglect. A local priest was shot in his church last week. We all owe each other the possibilities of a decent life. We don't owe you successful dreams. Grow up.
This pushing equity stuff reminds me of the Michaelangelo quote, "If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful at all."
I reminded of the provob misery loves company (1670). The original phrase was "misery loves miserable company." Groups of miserable people spread misery were every they go. Equity of socialism is shared misery through restricting liberty. Liberty is the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views. A free society cannot tolerate unequal applications of justice and treatment by government, making equity a threat to liberty. Liberty has been viewed as protecting the unfettered expression of individuality in all its forms, equality as a set of limitations on human action. R. H. Tawney observes that: "Equality implies the deliberate acceptance of social restraints on individual expansion. “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." 'The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.' -Winston Churchill
Thank goodness I have never desired a career in Tv and film because now if I did they wouldn't let me in the door. Thank Chato for calling all this out. Love your channel having recently discovered it. Keep up the good work.
"No matter what you do on the stage Keep it light, keep it bright, keep it gay! Whether it's murder, mayhem, or rage Don't complain, it's a pain Keep it gay! Keep it gay! Keep it gay..."
Yay Paul! Hurray for people of every hue and flavor. But do *not* hector us about "diversity" (fewer Whites), "equity" (giving Whites' stuff to others), and "inclusion" (fewer Whites). "Make yourself valuable" is the best advice any young person can get. I worked in software (realtime process control (engines, transmissions, auto-pilots, navigation, test, diagnostics, etc)) in the defense and automotive industries. They were *always* eager to hire and retain qualified minorities. My Whiteness didn't seem to matter. Expertise, experience, flexibility, and a record of completed projects with happy customers, --- that mattered. Prioritizing the customer's needs and desires mattered. Clarity of communication and documentation mattered. MAKE YOURSELF VALUABLE.
I know when I was growing up in a trailer eating government cheese, I felt so much comfort that being a white boy meant I would just be given everything I wanted. It really made up for my drunk dad being God knows where. This is why I hate this stuff so much. It both minimizes the work I had to put in to achieve anything AND, at the same time, stifles anyone who isn't a straight, white, male by simultaneously telling them they CAN'T succeed just because they aren't straight, white and male and when they do inevitably fail (because we ALL fail) at some point that it MUST be because they aren't a straight, white, male. When you fail as a "SWM", you can only blame yourself and work to improve yourself, but when you aren't, it's much easier to believe it's not you that failed, but it's the "SWM" that kept you from succeeding, so what's the point of trying to improve yourself, right? It's literally never been a worse time to be a "SWM", so does that mean I get to blame anything that happens to me now on the fact I'm a "SWM"? Does no one see this ISN'T equality OR equity? This is precisely why "Affirmative Action" was ALWAYS so controversial and apparently did NOTHING to help the problem if you listen to these people. It's ridiculous we are treating the world like is 1924 and not 2024. Back in 2005 NO ONE was thinking race, gender or sexuality was a real hinderance anymore, yet today we act like slavery ended last week!
All this is doing, is to polarize people. I know, that I've moved from left to right on some social issues. I never thought I'd be conservative, but there it is. Ofc, some issues are non-movable, like the environment and poverty, but the fluffy social engineering - I'm pretty conservative on that now.
I seem to recall most competent history courses I've had in school teaching major class and political struggles of the past as essentially boiling down to fighting for meritocracies from wildly unbalanced social structures. Funny how that all started to change in a certain part of the 20th century.
That is hysterically funny. When I was in college in the late 1970s, I had a friend studying drama who was male and straight - a definite minority in the drama program. More of the women were straight at that time so he had a LOT of fun…
My nephew and I have come to the understanding that Sportsnet wants us to hate ourselves, gamble, and fly to Dubai. This add plays a 100 times while we’re trying to watch hockey.
Pretty obvious, but self-awareness isn't the strong suit of people like this. If they had even an ounce, they'd realize the only people who use BIPOC/POC are the only people the term is ever used to mean, black, or what the CCP calls "white monkeys."

The “baggage claim“ video from March 25, 2024 is an excellent (unintentional) follow up to this video! The title is “bad writing is killing Hollywood.”
Oh man. I had to pause this a couple of times to get my blood pressure down. Like you I worked in the world of stage and screen for the majority of my life. As far as I could see, there was and is no other industry as open-mnded, accepting and progressive on a day-to-day basis. The philosophy was simple: you got talent, you work. You make me money, wou work, end of story. These narcissistic hacks have been told their whole childhoods that they're special and unique, and now they think they're owed something. They simply can't imagine that they're not getting work because they're untalanted, uncreative hacks, it must be that they're being held down. And they're savy enough to see that playing the victim card let's them jump the very long queue of their more talented competition!
Some people are so miserable with their lot in life that they have to put down others in order to raise themselves to feel better about it. These are people deserving of our pity but we should not enable or condone this behavior. Such behavior can only hurt them and no one else as it just turns back onto them such energies as they put out.
“Privilege“ is a reverse euphemism for laziness. They just don’t want to have to put in the effort but they wanna have all the things other people have. They worked hard for it, try working hard for something and nine times out of 10 you’ll get it. But genuine failure does exist so prepare your mind.
This is just so incredibly racist. It belittles every struggle people fave on their careers, it paints all people as simple passengers with no agency in their careers It even manages to be casually patronising, by insinuating that todd is dumb and could never have got his position without his race, gender and sexuality. This video illustrates the mentality of: "You see that successful person - that should have been me" versus "one day that will be me" This is just a grift profiting from some people's greed & envy, riding on a current cultural trend and some people's guilt over being successful.
They hastily assumed that everyone else lives in a similar bubble to their own and use that assumption as a mistaken basis in an attempt to gaslight you. The problem with Canadian TV and film is People of Talent, including people with creativity beyond pushing Canadian content approved by the government. I was a kid in the 90s and I knew Canadian TV was subpar in content and creativity in comparison to American Television. It's only gotten worse.
If they were honest about their intentions people wouldn't vote for them. Even the normie centre-left progressives who vote for them by default would stop and consider their options.

So please, "Cheque Your Messaging!"
Some of my favorite actors were not white.
Since you said this is also from the government, they should feel embarrassed and ashamed for doing something that doesn’t actually help Canadians

I watch a lot of old shows. I noticed the same thing!
Strong it is.
Same! I've been rewatching old movies from my youth because the current offerings are just awful, and the diversity in 70s & 80s movies was incredibly obvious. TV shows too. Not every single movie and TV show, because it wasn't forced, but there was lots of it over the broad selection of offerings that were there.

Absolutely! As a straight Christian male, I just don't see myself represented in most Disney products these days.
Reasonable take. I'm tired of these bigots getting a pass.
Thanks for the wonderful comment. The small group taking over is part of a psychological exercise called the werewolf game. Look it up.

Good one.

I think Paul is friends with Canoe Head Man. He could get superheroing tips from him!
Come to think of it, I've never seen Paul and Canoe Head Man in the same place at the same time...
Coerced ‘compassion’ is like taxed ‘donations’.
They could persevere, but it's easier to lay down blame.
Most brick layers and laboring masons that I have met in this life are white and male. Last time I talked to one he said there was no push for inclusion , representation , or diversity in the profession of brick laying. I wonder why ?
Insult your customers...great business plan!
This is the most serious, and at the same time one of the best and most insightful videos you've made Chato. Bravo!
I was under the impression that though out the film industry history a fair few of the top actors and film makers fit in the category that that she(?) thinks in so important.
Nope. None. Ever. Don't know what you're talking about. Now give them money!
The original phrase was "misery loves miserable company."
Groups of miserable people spread misery were every they go.
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
'The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.' -Winston Churchill
I'm watching the Like numbers roll as I watch this video.
Thank goodness I have never desired a career in Tv and film because now if I did they wouldn't let me in the door. Thank Chato for calling all this out. Love your channel having recently discovered it. Keep up the good work.
"No matter what you do on the stage
Keep it light, keep it bright, keep it gay!
Whether it's murder, mayhem, or rage
Don't complain, it's a pain
Keep it gay!
People want laughter when they see a show
The last thing they're after's a litany of woe
ROGER And CARMEN:
A happy ending will pep up your play...
Oedipus won't bomb...
If he winds up with Mom! Keep it gay!
Keep it gay..."
Damn Paul, great to hear your true feelings on this subject. Keep up the great work!
How can they possibly sit there and say with a straight face that sexual minorities are underrepresented in show business?
That is hysterically funny. When I was in college in the late 1970s, I had a friend studying drama who was male and straight - a definite minority in the drama program. More of the women were straight at that time so he had a LOT of fun…
Any minority for that matter. They’re seriously trying to pass off black Vikings. BLACK VIKINGS MAN! 😂🤣😂
Could try looking into it beyond the bisexuals and homosexuals.
Someone who gets to lecture me on my privilege of course has none.
When I hear check your privilege my brain hears "I think you're better than me and I can't figure out why" LOL
“The film industry in Canada is mostly white and straight.” Uh, please correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t most of CANADA white and straight?
My nephew and I have come to the understanding that Sportsnet wants us to hate ourselves, gamble, and fly to Dubai. This add plays a 100 times while we’re trying to watch hockey.
By skewing to DEI.... aren't they making their own self-entitled and discriminating privilege?
Pretty obvious, but self-awareness isn't the strong suit of people like this. If they had even an ounce, they'd realize the only people who use BIPOC/POC are the only people the term is ever used to mean, black, or what the CCP calls "white monkeys."

If they had even an ounce, they'd realize the only people who use BIPOC/POC are the only people the term is ever used to mean, black, or what the CCP calls "whyte" monkeys. RUclips censorship is in full swing again lol. Getting really ridiculous figuring out what innocuous phrase the system deems too naughty.

Now let's see if I keep getting ironically censored for the second part of my comment.
If they had even an ounce, they'd realize the only people who use [ridiculous edit due to censored] BIPOC/POC [ridiculous edit due to censorship] are the only people the term is ever used to mean, the B I evidently can't specify without being censored, or what some eastern cultures call "w****" monkeys, an eggshell color I evidently can't specify.
The “baggage claim“ video from March 25, 2024 is an excellent (unintentional) follow up to this video! The title is “bad writing is killing Hollywood.”
A stirring analysis of what to do (your suggestions) and not what to do (that racist BS). TY
Thanks for your comment.
It belittles every struggle people fave on their careers, it paints all people as simple passengers with no agency in their careers
It even manages to be casually patronising, by insinuating that todd is dumb and could never have got his position without his race, gender and sexuality.
This video illustrates the mentality of:
"You see that successful person - that should have been me" versus "one day that will be me"
This is just a grift profiting from some people's greed & envy, riding on a current cultural trend and some people's guilt over being successful.
They hastily assumed that everyone else lives in a similar bubble to their own and use that assumption as a mistaken basis in an attempt to gaslight you. All that does is insult and alienate the allies that they may have sought. It’s an overreach. Clearly they don’t know their targets well enough. That is, unless some higher ups behind them are actually playing 4D chess and in truth want to sow mistrust between different ethnicities with the entire ESG/DEI hoopla. It might be by design. In that case they’ve had some unpleasant success.
They have hastily assumed that everyone else lives in a bubble that is similar to their’s and are using that as a mistaken basis to gaslight you. All that does is alienate the allies that they sought to win over. Clearly they don’t know their target demographic well enough. Not exactly uniting unless that is by intentional design by some higher ups. In that case job well done.
The problem with Canadian TV and film is People of Talent, including people with creativity beyond pushing Canadian content approved by the government. I was a kid in the 90s and I knew Canadian TV was subpar in content and creativity in comparison to American Television. It's only gotten worse.
They need to drop the BS and just say, "We want a Bolshevik Revolution. Socialism Now!", and drop the lying about diversity.
If they were honest about their intentions people wouldn't vote for them. Even the normie centre-left progressives who vote for them by default would stop and consider their options.
"There's no privilege in Hollywood"
....Jaden Smith, anyone?
