My friends and I made tons of these bags in the 70's. Not only did we line the bags, but the shoulder strap as well to keep it from stretching. Old jeans to the rescue- use pockets to the inside and the inside of the jeans to the inside of the bag.
Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I would love any help you can give me
This has to be one of the cutest tutorials I’ve ever watched. He sounds so cute and pure like he really out here trynna show us easy steps to improve our work. So adorable and HELPFUL !!!!
REALLY appreciate Mikey's honesty in this! I've never sewn in my life but he's made me confident that I can line my bag because of his honesty, tips [especially saying the liner will show through the bag], and beginner friendly method! Thanks!
Hi Mikey! Great tutorial! Just a quick tip I learned the hard way and also in a sewing class: I see your pins go the same direction as your seam line, if you do that (ESPECIALLY if you get a sewing machine), your seam will start to slide off the pins. If you pin your seam outward in (so all the top of your pin heads are outward), the seams won’t move, and you can sew over them if you need to. Hope that helps! Thanks for all the great tutorials!! Mags 💜🤗
I also don't own a sewing machine but I go for a lot of sewing projects. it's a lot more work than with a machine. I've found crochet and knitting is more rewarding whereas hand sewing just because I don't have a machine is frustrating. It sucks because I'd like hand sewing if it wasn't my only option.
I just started crocheting again and one of my projects was making bags. I’ve made several bags and wanted to line them, but my friend never told me how to do it. I’m so glad I saw this video. Now I can try to do it to one of the bags I have now. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much. I wanted to line a knitted bag and had no idea how. I’ve just finished it thanks to your help and really pleased with it. You star.
LOL....No. I love you Mikey and you've walked me through some wonderful crochet patterns---but seeing you measure and sew had me cringing! So let me walk YOU through a few sewing tips. 1. Always add a seam allowance before you cut the material. Measuring your bag exactly will make the lining too small for the bag. 2. If you turn your fabric inside out to being with, all you have to do is sew down the sides...then reverse. You now have flat seams and it is much easier to drive your needle through. 3. Place the liner in your bag and match the side seams to the sides of your bag. Pin in place and ease the material around the bag. 4. Always, always, always double your thread. Love ya, Mikey!
SUGGESTIONS: Why not just get a larger length of fabric and fold it in half? That way, you only have 2 side seams to sew. Alternatively, if you want to create interior divider sections, create an "acccordion fold" of the fabric (fold each end of fabric to meet at center, then stitch along sides, then fold in half, leaving open the pocket divider sections).
Absolutely, you could do that as well. Sounds like you have it all planned out. :) Nice idea and a great tip to leave here in the comments to give others the same idea.
I'm currently making a crocodile scale stitch dice bag for one of my friends and I'm putting the liner in before I sew sides together and sinch the bottom.
This is exactly how I was going to sew my liner to my tote and I didn’t know the best way to do it by hand because I don’t wanna pull out my sewing machine. This is great thank you so much this is the best video I could’ve ever found for this.
Great job! For someone that has never done that before you did it brilliantly. Excellent video, very clear and simple instructions, easy to follow. I have just finished crocheting a tote bag just like this and was considering lining it. Having seen how good it looks with a lining I will definitely have a go at it. Thanks for sharing this video, very helpful. You should be very proud of yourself! 👍😁
This is a great video! I don't have a sewing machine, so anything with fiber I'm either sewing by hand or using a skip-cutter to prepare it for crochet. Thanks for the tutorial!
First step, press the fabric. That stitch that you used is a basting stitch. A better, more sturdy stitch would be a back stitch. Other than those suggestions, your video did have a lot of useful information for the beginner.
To add, I would personally line the bag with the selvage at the top to eliminate extra stretch. That would be cutting on the straight of grain as opposed to the stretchier bias.
Wow, we're really on the same sheet of music right now, as I'm doing the same thing to a purse a friend just gave me. The difference is that the bottom of the purse is like a flat circle crocheted in the round, so I'll have to account for that. I'm also going to line a child's purse I'm in the process of crocheting. It's just funny that we're doing this at the same time.
Such an awesome tutorial!! I'm definitely not a sewer (my mom bought me a sewing machine for Christmas one year cuz I wanted to learn to make my own clothes & I never could figure out how to thread my needle without tangling it), but this I think I could manage to do!! What about bags that have boxed bottoms??
@@TheCrochetCrowd thank you for the response ! Came out great! Now I just feel like the shoulder straps are weak. I’ll try the same technique doing this and see how it goes.
I’ve just finished my first crochet purse and had this video saved so that I could rewatch and line my bag. I am still concerned about the straps stretching with the weight of whatever is in the purse, though…..
The only thing wrong is you should have left a seam allowance so the fabric could have been sewn from the bottom and sides leaving the top open and then you can sew it to the top
I would place a few anchor stitches to connect the two layers so the yarn layer doesn’t stretch out from the lining! Otherwise very easy and useful tutorial
Just in my way to bed..LOL at 434 a.m. Can't wait to arrogant see this Mikey..tickled I've needed this desperately! WAHOO OH DANG JUST DAWNED ON ME..NO SEWING MACHINE. UUUGGHHH! LOLOL STILL NEEDS TO ME DONE oops darn caps LOL

Great suggestion....jean pockets
I like the Jean pockets
Great idea/tip!
Maybe I will use old cargo pants so the bag is not so heavy, thanks for the inside out pants idea

You can follow the same process to line the straps of the bag too. That keeps the straps from ever stretching out.
Great idea! I’ve thought about it but never tried it. Lining a bag also keeps it from stretching! Of course, Mickey said that just as I typed it!
REALLY appreciate Mikey's honesty in this! I've never sewn in my life but he's made me confident that I can line my bag because of his honesty, tips [especially saying the liner will show through the bag], and beginner friendly method! Thanks!

This is fabulous. I don't sew, have no desire to do so, and don't own a sewing machine, so this tutorial is very helpful to me. Thanks, Mikey!

You line bags exactly the way I do! Thank you for this video. Definitely the motivation I needed to line a granny bag I’ve had laying around for ages!

The color of that yarn is beautiful.

Glad it was helpful! and Glad you can be inspired by it. I love the lining inside myself.
Thank you for sharing how to line crochet or knit bag for the beginner/ crochet crowd, I'll do it with my crochet bag😀👌👍
add a 1/4 inch seam allowance around the three sides of the material that need to be sewed when cutting out the material.
This is a great video! I don't have a sewing machine, so anything with fiber I'm either sewing by hand or using a skip-cutter to prepare it for crochet. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thanks Mikey, great option for us non-sewers.

Wow !! That looks easy. Cant wait to line my bags that I've made.
Thank you for sharing, so well explained, I needed this for all my croshet bags .
Glad it was helpful!
Mickey your talent knows no bounds! Your an inspiration to us all thank you. Have a great day!
Thanks for the tutorial. I'll be attempting to line my bag. And this really helps a lot
And if you don't want to add a zipper, they sell little Velcro ovals (or strips) that just stick on.
I can't believe🤗! I was just thinking about a lesson to lining up a bag and there it is,simple and quick!!!
Thank you!
Brazilians Hugs from WA!🤗
Thanks for this. I am into making the crochet bags now and this tutorial was so very helpful. You made it so simple! 😊
Wow, great video. Thanks for sharing. I also read some of the comments; thank you as well for great ideas. God bless. You All Rock.
I'm going to try it for the first time in a tote I'm making. Fingers crossed 🤞
Love that fact that a dude is doing this
Yes!!! Thank you for making this video!!!! I have a bag waiting to be lined.
That line is called the selvage or selvedge (self finished) edge of the fabric, Mikey.
To add, I would personally line the bag with the selvage at the top to eliminate extra stretch. That would be cutting on the straight of grain as opposed to the stretchier bias.
Hi Mikey. You didn't leave any seam allowance. I learned the hard way.
spotted that one right away because I'm a sewer

Wow, Mikey beautiful thanks for another great tutorial. I need to try this on my project. Thanks so much, love ur tutorials blessings! 💕
Thank you Mikey, you made it look so easy to do. Awesome! 💕
Thanks, Mikey❣️

Also nice washable bag... GREAT JOB!
Wonderful! Thank you 😊 for sharing ‼️
you made this look so easy !!!!
Doesn’t there need to be a seam allowance added before cutting the fabric? I’m so nervous to mess up and cut too short.
Maybe about 1”. Great question.
@@TheCrochetCrowd thank you for the response ! Came out great! Now I just feel like the shoulder straps are weak. I’ll try the same technique doing this and see how it goes.

@@blipp3062 same especially since mine is a tote sized purse. Just feels heavy picking it up especially with the lining added to it.
LOVELY VIDEO 💕
Thank you 🤗
Thank you this is very simple. I appreciate you!
Great idea and so easy. I'm not a great seer but I believe I can do this. Thanks Mikey!👍👏
Top video ..thank you.
Super helpful video and very easy! Thank you!
The only thing wrong is you should have left a seam allowance so the fabric could have been sewn from the bottom and sides leaving the top open and then you can sew it to the top
This is what I needed to learn thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Nice, Thanks Mikey for this tutorial. I'm going to try this technique on my nrxt bag!
Excellent job
I would place a few anchor stitches to connect the two layers so the yarn layer doesn’t stretch out from the lining! Otherwise very easy and useful tutorial
Great tip!
Thank you Mikey! Can I use a sewing machine for this?
I believe you can but I don't own one to demonstrate that.
could you plz show to us how to sew a zipper to the bag
beautiful bag mikey! :)
Where do I get a liner
Awesome, Thanks so much!

Yes, it's in our bag collection here on RUclips.

Thank you so much
Thank you 🌺🌺
You’re welcome 😊
Also, since it’s finished, it won’t unravel - no need to fold or stitch it.
How talk is your bag Mikey?.just curious :-D
Be sure to iron the fabric you are going to use. You will get a better fit.
What stitch did you use is it a back stitch?
If you are referring to the chain, it creates a nicer finished look.
Now can u show doing a round one
Just in my way to bed..LOL at 434 a.m. Can't wait to arrogant see this Mikey..tickled I've needed this desperately! WAHOO OH DANG JUST DAWNED ON ME..NO SEWING MACHINE. UUUGGHHH! LOLOL STILL NEEDS TO ME DONE oops darn caps LOL
