as someone from the UK i'd deffo say Toronto has their own style of music videos / visuals etc but when it comes to music, in 2021 & 2022 they been watering it down and copying mainstream USA stuff imo, back when Freeze / Come Outside / Wass Gang / Robin Banks etc were doing huge numbers is when i would say Toronto had their own authentic sound but they seemed to have distanced themselves from that just my perspective looking in from outside
Toronto underground/street rap has 2 sounds: hard trap beats punchline storytelling flow with Toronto slang and accent like mo g puffy Lz smoke dawg pengz & melodic trap beats with a singsong flow got popularized by robin Casper LB French archee
But then u have I guess like alternative hiphop and rnb in Toronto that has a big Drake and 40 influence a lot of pianos and large sounding production and in general the music sounds like the cities weather (Safe, Tobi, jazz Cartier n dem man) people always assume Daniel ceaser and Bryson tiller are from Toronto because they fit into this category
Toronto's Sound is: cleaner and slickly produced version of American sounds, like an algorithm produced it. Jason Packs and his crew had a unique sound back in the day
Saukrates was the original Toronto soundsmith, he made funky boom bap and soulful sounds...think brassmonk, think the Kardislang album...originality is key!
