    FOR VENTURA AND LATER: NOTE: This video was made before OS 13 "Ventura", which has native compatibility with the Pro Controller and the Joy-Cons. I'll have a video on that hopefully soon
    FOR MONTEREY USERS: I wanted to let you know that it seems the Switch Pro controller isn't completely working in Monterey. Thanks to user "G u t e n" for bringing it to my attention and helping me verify.
    It seems that Monterey has some recognition of the Switch Pro controller, but not completely, and so that is interfering with controller mapping apps or functions. I say this because I noticed that Monterey will recognize it and give you some special access, such as launching "Launchpad" with the Home button, moving around the interface with the thumbstick, and opening an app with the "A" button or closing it with the "B" button.
    Unfortunately whether it be a game in Steam with controller support or using an app like JoyStick Mapper or Controlly, I couldn't get controller mapping to work. The only thing that seems to work for sure is the Steam "Big Picture" Mode interface. Most of the games that have it seem to recognize that a controller is connected, but can't do anything with it. The interface navigates normally and fluidly. The other weird thing I noticed is that when a game with controller support is running in Steam, if I go back to the Mac desktop, I can move the cursor with the thumbsticks, move around icons with the D-Pad, and manipulate items with the triggers and A/B buttons.

      The only way I know of is by upgrading to Ventura which has native support for the controllers and can bind them. From there you can use it in Mac App Store games and most emulators. Once you have 2 connected, you hold down the home and screenshot button for 3 seconds and then they’ll be unified. Again, this is only in Ventura

    • @EasyOSX
      @EasyOSX  3 года назад +1

      Hey thanks for the sub. I appreciate that.
      To answer your question, for Minecraft you’ll have to use a keyboard mapping app like the one I recommended in the video. I’m assuming you’re using the one I recommended, so let’s go through some troubleshooting steps.
      First, is the cable connected or are you going off Bluetooth? If you’re using Bluetooth, then let’s connect a wire and see if that works.
      2: Do you have a mapping scheme setup? If you don’t, you’ll need to either use one of the templates built in, or custom create your own.
      3: If you have a controller scheme mapped, do you have it enabled. When it’s enabled, the app should be running and a scheme should have the check mark next to it. Do you have a check mark next to the Minecraft scheme you want to use? If not, hit the checkbox after you’ve connected up the controller.
      Let’s start with these steps and let me know if it starts working or if not so we can try something else.

      @EasyOSX  2 года назад +1

      Hey Guten , I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, I just haven't been able to do much with my Switch or video stuff for a while. All that said, I can confirm you are correct, the Switch Pro controller isn't working in Monterey.
      My suspicion is that Monterey has some recognition of the Switch Pro controller, but not complete, and so that is interfering with controller mapping apps or functions. I say this because I noticed that Monterey will recognize it and give you some access, such as launching "Launchpad" with the Home button, moving around the interface with the thumbstick, and opening an app with the "A" button or closing it with the "B" button.
      Unfortunately whether it be a game in Steam with controller support or using an app like JoyStick Mapper or Controlly, nothing would allow it to function.
      All that said, we'll just have to wait to see if Apple provides an update to natively put this support into Mac OS completely, which is a shame. I'll also post a note on the blog post and as a pinned comment noting the issue with Monterey. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

    • @EasyOSX
      @EasyOSX  3 года назад

      Hey Sxwifter, you can for 2 player functions, so you can have a family member or friend play local co-op or competitively with you. But the Mac doesn’t have a way to see the Joycons as a unified controller like the Switch does, so you can’t use them to act as a single controller.

      At this time there isn’t a way to use both Joycons at the same time. Most computers, including Macs, rightfully see them as 2 separate devices. The Switch has some custom programming that allows it to use both joycons in tandem when physically disconnected from the Switch

      heads up from personal experience, I spent hundreds of dollars on third party controllers (8BitDo) so I could play on my Mac with friends, but I just bought a new Mac and most Amazon/thirdparty controllers won't update their firmware for M1 Macs so they'll be useless if you ever decide to upgrade. And Intel Mac gaming is impossible because of the fans anyways so it's really disappointing that I can't use my silicon Mac for what it's supposed to
