This song effected me the same way. The tragedy of the Utøya Massacre in 2011 hit Aurora personally, as she lost a close friend. She deals with it by creating this masterpiece.

I discovered Aurora by chance in Covid times and can't get away from her. What an extraordinary young woman. Helped me through times of depression. I don't just mean her songs, but her whole personality, her boundless optimism and hope. The way she speaks to her fans in concerts. The complete lack of selfishness and inhibitions to speak out what she thinks. More people should take this young lady as an example. I don't just mean normal people, but above all those who are so-called role models themselves.
I have 63 songs from her in my playlist. I've seen pretty much all interviews, all documentaries and concerts, podcasts and live streams. The girl brightens the mood.
This song is for the victims of the Uteya massacre in 2011 and someone important for AURORA that died that day.
"Today is the day. 22nd of July. It's been 4 years since you left us. Since all of you left us. How time flies, we even find ourselves forgetting for a moment, nearly moving on .. Not because we forget you, but because we remember to live. But know that I will always remember you, and everyone that went down with you. I will think of love, and send love to those who needs it this today. I hope no one crying alone. Rest in peace my friend. You are free now. " - AURORA
    You should check out
    Aurora's Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1)
from the Nobel Peace Price Concert.
I know the song is in this Nidarosdomen concert too, but it's not the best version. So skip this one and take the Nobel Piece Price one.
Just one guitar and 2 voices and a sensational performance.
Aurora wrote this song after reading about a "murder" in the paper near her homeland. A man killed his wife/girlfriend out of love. She was seriously ill and suffered more every day. He released her from suffering. The song is sung from the perspective of the woman's ghost. She also makes it clear that she understands her husband. Maybe it was with the woman's consent (I hope so) or he made the decision on his own. No idea. But it was love. And this is her darkest Song.
You will only find this explanation of this song in one interview with her. It's not written anywhere else. And usually she doesn't explain her songs that specifically either, because she wants everyone to find their own story in them. This way songs stay interesting longer. That's why I also believe that this explanation was just an accident. It was also just a brief side note on a question asked, by the way.
She usually only says to the song it is a true tragic love story that doesn't end well.
It should be said that this News was an inspiration for this song. That doesn't have to mean that the song itself is about it. She said the couple in the song is fictional. But these things happen every day.

Coyote, thank you for giving him such a good history of the song's origins. I knew some of the details but nothing like you were able to share with him (and us).
Like you, I found her only recently, January 2020, and have come to the opinion she's a musical genius empath. She's helped me through many dark times and I feel SO FORTUNATE to have found her. How lucky we are 😍

Yes, it's about The Utøya Massacre (July 22, 2011) in which 67 people (mostly children) was killed. Aurora lost a close friend in this massacre.

This really is healing music, when someone puts that much soul into their craft is just does something. I found Aurora in 2017, and til this day she takes the #1 spot. I'm glad you're watching this concert, it's like watching it over with a friend :)

You could also check out the Mahogny session of this song. Even more emotional, raw and dusturbing in my humble opinion.

    haha....that heavy sigh around 2:18
    Man...I know the feeling.
That specific part...that rising pre-chorus, of this song, in this performance.....hits my very soul in a way I cannot put to words adequately. I've literally watched/heard that part before and cried a bit out of nowhere. It's just....very emotionally cathartic. It's the melody and the WAY she sings the notes....the switches from chest to head voice...the inflection....the subtlety of all of it.
Even the way her eyes widen like she's witnessing the birth of the universe and feels both awe and fear.
It's such a short little part of just one song....but it's just incredible.
It's little moments like that that remind me why I love music so so much. The fact a human being created these sounds....that communicates 10,000 words of information through sheer melody, harmony, timbre, intonation, etc etc. It's so wonderful...

Can’t wait until you listen to Why Did You Go a Place? There is no music video and no release. Written by Aurora when a friend was killed in a car crash in 2014. It was uploaded by someone and Aurora decided to leave it out there. Thank god she did. It is heart breaking. Forgot to include a link: ruclips.net/video/3n-dMxbIqJA/видео.html

Hello. Don't get me wrong. I love this concert. But lately it have been overdoing.. There are so much more performances by my soulhealer. In my opinion it's only one song There is only one song that is not found better anywhere else. It's Lucky in Nidarosdomen. The sound in the song is as made for this church and it is sparse with instruments. Church organ and a man's choir. There are some strings but it's at the end. She wrote it when she was 9 years old and it's just amazing. I see that you get emotional by little boy. See how you get through this emotional powder keg. Great work Sir. I subscribe

I know you're working your way through her Nidarosdomen performance, but if you've any interest (via reaction or on your own), check out her Mahogany Session version of this song. It's just her and an accoustic guitar, and it's heartbreakingly beautiful: ruclips.net/video/1kiV704Nd_I/видео.html
