      Why oh why didn't that Simplicity one win 😂. I had to be honest though and really wish I had just made another Patina in the pink fabric! Thanks for watching 💗

    Hi Carole! Neckline doesn't look too low on the Simplicity blouse. Just right given the necklace you are wearing with it in the video. However, I do like the matching collar points on the Patina blouse. Both look great; both are beautiful. Can't say I like one more than the other. 🥰 Now, to watch the other video!

    If you have any pink fabric left, you might try a bow where the collars meet.

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  26 дней назад

      Thanks Kathleen. I think that is why there is a gap as one of the views was designed to have a bow. It is a little too formal for me really to include one. I am going to see how I go wearing it but thanks for the idea 🧵😊

  • @sbrickett
    @sbrickett 28 дней назад +1

    Carole, you can put some pretty lace across that gap and it would look fine. You can also adjust the front pattern pieces to go on the fold and eliminate the button placket altogether. The Patina looks better on you, but the other one is fixable. Glory be! You admitted that an indi pattern was better, haha! I think you’re coming along to the dark side!

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  26 дней назад +1

      Thanks Sue. If that blouse was a little bigger on me I could have eliminated the placket but sadly due to me thinking I am a size or two bigger than I am I didn't have that option! I will wear the pink blouse as is as I love the fabric but if I want another similar top I will make the Patina as I know that works. You could see it pained me to admit the Indie was the winner 😂. 🧵😊

      Now that is an interesting take on the two results! It is the gap in the collar isn't it, the Patina was so much neater on me but I will still wear the pink as it is so pretty. Thanks so much for your anniversary wishes, time flies!! xx

    Congratulations on filming for two years! Your viewers thank you 😀! Both blouses are so pretty with such lovely fabrics - I like the way the Patina meets in the middle, though if I didn't know that was an option I would think the Simplicity one was perfectly fine. It is hard to know about sizing with Big 4 - I have made things that "should" have been my size going by the packet measurements and they were huge on me! Seems like it's a case-by-case determination depending on the style, the person who designed the pattern, and maybe whether or not there is some so-called vanity sizing included in the design. I always get tripped up with the amount of ease when I flat measure pattern pieces to see just how big the finished item will be...maybe...🤔

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  26 дней назад

      Hi there, thanks so much for your comment and being so kind! I was silly re the sizing, I did read the envelope and knew it may come up small but just barged ahead as like you say, the Big 4 always seem to come up larger! Not this time 😂. Sometimes I do measure the pattern pieces but I didn't even do that on this occasion. However, I do love the blouse and will still wear it but the Patina was better. 🧵😊

    Congratulations on your two year anniversary. The blouse is lovely but I do prefer the Patina for all the reasons you have said. I’ve made three Patinas, two long sleeve and one short sleeve. It’s a comfortable blouse to wear either dressed up or down. I also loved your two year anniversary vlog with your books from the 70’s. I don’t recall having any sewing books room the 70’s but I did have other project style books/things to do on a rainy day. Oh my goodness you took me back. Different times and it was good to reminisce with you 😃.

      Thank you Ann, I can’t believe how fast the two years has gone! I am so glad you enjoyed a look back at those books and it brought back similar memories for you. I really want to make another Patina now as you are right, because the collar is flat it can be casual or dressed up, not surprised it is such a popular pattern, shame about the Simplicity one! Have a wonderful weekend 🧵😊

    Your blouse is absolutely gorgeous Carole! We were shocked when you said you preferred the Patina over a Big 4 😂
    But the collar not meeting in the middle would be really annoying. We had to laugh when you were talking about your sleeve when I had so much trouble with my sleeves as well!

    Both blouses are very pretty! I love a nice (mini print) floral top because it can be worn with so many different solid color skirts or pants and jeans. I totally get the need to secure a lower cut top so you don’t suffer the infamous “wardrobe malfunction.” 😅 I’m the same. The suggestion for adding a piece to it might be worth investigating and sharing on your channel if it proves helpful. Just a thought. 😊

    • @socarole66

      You are right about mini prints Norma. That blouse has so many colours in it and I didn't realise until I put it on that it would go with the green trousers! I think my fear of revealing anything has to do with my Mother being so judgemental of ladies with cleavages😂. I will wear it for a while and see how I go but maybe with a pink vest underneath! Thanks for your comment 🧵😊

    I can see why you prefer the Patina- I do too for all the reasons you outlined. However the Simplicity does not look too low at all! Probably looking down on the neckline it will look lower to you but it really doesn’t to others looking at you. It looks lovely on you. My weight fluctuates so for sizing I am very careful to look at finished garment measurements- not always easy with older Big 4 so I measure pattern pieces which is a pain. Did laugh at your lost sleeve story- things like that happen to me all the time😂😂😂. Happy Sewing and Happy Anniversary 😊. Lynne

    You could make a little modesty panel to place at the bottom of the collar of the Simplicity blouse so it doesn't look so low. I love both of them, and quite like the gap between the collar on the Simplicity one for the button placket. I've bought patterns specifically for that detail before. There is also the Kenny Blouse from Style Arc, that looks very much like the patina. I have those two that I want to co a comparison between. But I wish I had your Simplicity one too. But I'm pretty sure I don't.

    It seems to me that the Simplicity has that space in the collar for the neck tie bow.

      @socarole66  27 дней назад

      Yes you are right, if I had done the bow then it wouldn't have stood out so much but I wasn't keen on that view, too formal for me. I am sure I will get used to it! Thanks for watching 🧵😊

    Both your blouses are lovely and look so pretty on you as well. I have made the Patina blouse multiple times and love each one. I did put a fuller sleeve on several of my long sleeved versions. I too "loose" things while sewing and it's so annoying. Honestly, I spend so much time looking for things. I don't have a dedicated sewing room-I have my machines in our bedroom, and of course my sewing supplies. But I cut things out in our living room, iron in our hallway-so I am constantly leaving something in another room and having to back track to retrieve things. Oh well, I guess that's how I get in my "steps" LOL! Happy Sewing!🥰

      Thanks for your comment Theresa and I am not surprised the Patina is a winner for you too! That did make me laugh that you lose things between the cutting and sewing room. I do exactly the same, my 'cutting' table in the sewing room is always so cluttered I still use our dining room table. Those pesky pattern pieces are always floating to the floor when I don't notice and I always lose them! Snap 😂 Have a great weekend 🧵😊

    I am the same way about not wanting to show cleavage. I could tell you were standing just so, so as not to flash. Both blouses are pretty, but I prefer the Patina for the same reason. Love the collar and how it comes together in the front. Bonus is it goes in quick and easy.

      Ha ha that is so funny Christine, you spotted my avoidance of embarrassment! The Patina definitely wins and now I want to make another, like you said the blouse just worked didn't it. Have a super weekend xx

    I don't feel the blouse is too low but you have to be comfortable..Make a piece of fabric the shape of a v to add to the 1779.. I made a dress once that was really too low and just added a fabric v to add to it.. lots of compliments on it.. No one knows what its supposed to look like

    I have made the Simplicity pattern, and made changes as I went through the process. I put in a back yoke and short sleeves and had made a larger size than I needed and I refolded the front so it ended higher. I am quite tall (5’ 10”) and somewhat busty so it worked for me.

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  28 дней назад

      That sounds like some brilliant changes to the pattern and would definitely improve it. Interesting to hear you made a larger size to adjust the front. I thought as a fair comparison I had to stick to the pattern but it really didn't look as good as the Patina. Well done and thanks for watching 🧵😊

    I would have absolutely no problem wearing the simplicity blouse at all, the v would be exactly where I’d want it. It’s maybe a more ‘coffee with the girls’ than office wear for some people a little more reserved than me though. I’m heavier built than you so it balances me out better than having a higher neckline. Saying that this blouse is perfect for a pussybow, which, if a little structured, would cover any cleavage that might show. If it was detachable with a brooch pin or something you would have a choice on how adventurous you’re feeling on any specific occasion. You could also create different bows to change the look, a lacy one, same fabric, single colour etc. if wearing it ‘as is’ try wearing a striking necklace that sits from the décolletage to where you normally have your necklines. This will draw the eye and pull the look to a ‘confident’ tasteful appearance which you could pull off everyday of the week with your lovely figure. Xx

      Now you have just had a genius idea thank you! Others had mentioned about a bow but I really don't need a formal blouse most of the time... but if I did then I could have the security of the bow and the distraction from the V!! You are right about the bigger necklace as well, you know your styling stuff! Thank you so much for all your ideas, you should be a personal shopper (if you aren't already!). 💗👏🏼
