I'm not proud of myself but I must admit that one of the reasons I enjoy this channel so much is the sense of perverse satisfaction I am from watching somebody else suffer so much working on cars. As you can probably guess I've hardly picked a spanner up myself in 30 years!
Haha that's not the first time I've heard that
Me too.
Ok, but you have to realise, that's just one side of the coin, the other is the satisfaction from a good done job, and which in most cases is much bigger than the afford put in.That part you're missing as well sitting on the other side of the screen. Go and grab a spanner yourself! 💪
Old rs6 is a pig to work on, probs not as bad as the new stuff though the amount of electrics would be a nightmare
This is probably the distinctive trait of this channel and something that must be capitalized upon. These are not meant to be perfect repairs, but are adequate to keep the various cars running and frankly amazing for a guy doing almost of the work by himself.
It’s what a lot of us has been wishing they had the time, the tools and the ability to do for a long time, and never quite got to the point.
From an entertainment standpoint, this is not a hack job style channel like Rich Rebuilds, or an esoteric car fixing channel like Mat Armstrong. It is quintessential man vs car. The choice of down to earth cars is perfect. Highly relatable. Great job.
That lift IS a game changer, pure luxury for a bloke that removed engines in a public car park not that long ago :)
that will always be my memory
And there was me thinking there'd be nothing to watch at half 6 on a Sunday morning 🤣 Thanks Nino!
Haha happy to help
You put a limit on ticket sales and you donate a respectable amount of takings to worthy causes. This is better than 99% of other RUclips channels that are also doing these competitions, well done sir.
🤝
@@NotEconomicallyViableI have tried many times to enter this competition but get stuck in payment loop involving a QR code which I cant seem to sort out HELP !!!!!!
@@NotEconomicallyViableFINALLY. done it, but not via the prescribed route. Payment of £49.90 for 63 tickets made manually to 1452 Labs as their automated system did not work. What a bloody palaver ! I deserve to win after that marathon.
The first video I watched from you was „buying the cheapest RS6 in the country“ and I instantly got hooked by your personality.
I’m very glad to see you’re working on this beauty again and I wish you all the best and good luck!
Appreciate that 🤝
I had a 2.4 A6 (R reg) that I did the cambelt change. I found that if you undo drivers side on rad pack, the whole pack will swing open like a door. Just need to have something to support it when you swing it out. It was the easiest cambelt job I've ever done.
Nino heed this man's words, you can swing the whole front end out without disconnecting any of those hoses, giving you some 30cm of space which is more than enough to do any and everything to this engine
I have the exact same Noco jump pack and it has started my 2.2 diesel turbo with a dead flat battery that won't hold charge and my dog even chewed the plug on the lead and it still works so i was surprised to see you have had non stop issues with it.
I see you just short pressed the power button where I hold the power button for a few seconds and it goes into a different mode, maybe give that a go if you haven't already.
Love the channel have been watching from the beginning, your a long way from the car parking space and side of the road very impressive.
❤
Agreed . You need to select the very low or completely flat battery setting. To access the override setting, press the red exclamation mark button for 2/3 seconds. It will then pump out power regardless of what’s left in the battery.
@NotEconomicallyViable check this comment about your jump pack
Read the terrible Noco instructions
Oh a full car lift, a gift from the gods. I have said for the last 25 years or more I must get one. Problem is I have nowhere for it to go. Still my dream as I get even older.
As an old school mechanic your attitude is just like mine when I started out and the joyful look on your face pressing the button on the lift is why I will watch every single post you put up
Shrink tubing for electrical connecting is not expensive and looks better than tape
Nino, your cars may not be economically viable but you are. I'd prefer to see a weekly video, including sponsorship and see you grow and if possible become rich. Why not, alot of the others get rich, so long as we the viewer get what we want then you should get what you want. Ive actually fixed things on my car because of you and trust me, open a bonnet and i panic. Keep it going Nino. Also, i enter your competitions but never expect to win and if i did win you'd probably get the car back again, i enter to help your channel. Good luck mate. TAKE THE SPONSERSHIP if they offer it to you.
Weekly videos are difficult for me at the moment due to the pace at which I work (due to inexperience). I will try for weekly, but as a one-man-band that does literally everything I just can't make any promises right now
Just wanted to say, you and several other RUclips mechanics inspired me to put some work into my wife’s old car. I ended up pulling the engine out and completely cleaning everything up: new seals, gaskets, everything, everywhere. I can’t wait to get a lift myself, but it’ll be a while. My real passion is home renovation, so I’m focusing on that while tinkering with my work truck. You should be extremely proud and happy man. Love from the US! I did some time in the UK near RAF Mildenhall. Was lucky enough to spend a year there. Beautiful country, reminds me of home in Oregon.
You remind me of me when I was your age (74 now) and learning as I went along. I went through most of what you're going though at some point. Now that I can't do all that work myself anymore your videos do serve to scratch that itch a bit. I still miss it though. Good job!
I take drugs.
On these Audi and VW you need to take off the slam panel and swing the AC condenser out of the way on its hoses. This gives you unobstructed access to the front of the engine. I used to do loads of these back in the day.
This ^ i found the same! Much easier!!
I have thick cobwebs on my car mirrors, wipers, rear window and inside every morning! It's just relentless. I've asked the spiders politely to leave but they're really embedded now. To be fair I'm impressed with their ingenuity since they turned my car into a convenient mobile fly catcher.
Mint plants work, and chestnuts😊
@@keithgordon639 Thanks, I'll throw a few mint teabags around the interior. Do you throw the chestnuts at them?😉Just cleaned it yesterday and covered again this morning!
I got a four post lift installed about 4 years ago - and even now i still find myself doing stuff on my knees. Old habits die hard! And I agree with you about your MOT result, the only thing that would worry me is the emission issue. Hopefully you have a scanner that will show stuff like long and short term fuel trims, air flow readings, and what your 02 sensors are doing.. Then of course you have the fun of getting your head around understanding what the readings mean. Luckily the internet is a wealth of info when it comes to understanding such stuff. Good luck!
More importantly you’re a shade under 100k subscribers! Let’s make a big push for a worthy milestone.
I’m in Sydney Australia so can’t enter, but I wish you all the success and the winner of the RS6 - what a beast this car will be.
Me too, living in South Australia, still rooting for you Nino!
Congrats on the hoist and workshop! Jealous 😂
Love the channel. Fantastic you got the lift. Great upgrade for a guy who single handedly replaced the Range Rover gearbox on his driveway with axle stands
You guys are great...loved hearing that you are giving to the children's hospital. Such a disgraceful act of human brutally thoughts and hope for all involved from Australia.❤❤❤
I'm glad that you reminded me to not get VAG with any bigger engine or stuffed engine bay. Might be great car but not fun to maintain
Cool, great to see another vid, glad you were able to get away for a break though. Good to see the lift getting it's first use and have also just gone and bought some tickets for a chance at this beast of a machine. Hopefully the emissions thing is just a leak somewhere and a bit of nipping up sorts it - for my Legacy twin turbo it's usually something to do with the massively complicated vac system that ties people in knots trying to resolve.
I'm attacking the emissions problem in a minute. I'm also really hoping it's just an exhaust leak, but I won't be touching any of the other problems until the emissions is fixed
I like the fact that your driveway setup and your struggles are so similar to most others who have to work on their own cars to keep them going!
I also like the fact that you dont pretend you know what you are doing all the time as lets be honest unless its your job you will be spending plenty of time on YT how to videos so you know how best to remove a pesky piece of plastic trim without butchering it or plan how long removing something simple like a sensor or some thing more in depth like a turbo swap will take.
I like the fact you struggle with rust, regular tools and get by with a pavement attachment on the power washer. Non of it ideal but its what you have to do to get the job done.
I think you have found what alot of people have found with post 2005 ish cars. They are just not that enjoyable or rewarding to work on.
Your hard work and relatable content and personality is going to go far!
The ramp at the workshop is a game changer. 👍🏼
Quick tip for people in regards to headlight polishing, if you already have a DA polisher and compound (or even one of those ghetto drill pad kits for body work), you don't need to buy the kit as it's no different. Make sure you mask up and lacquer it afterwards though or your hard work will be gone after 12 months.
It's an absolute joy to see someone enjoying the simple things, Like a Two Post lift, to such an extent. Wrenching IS fun!
This man would rather be on his back in the driveway, covered in oil and getting squashed by a transmission, than wash a car hahah
Glad to see you finally got the lift! This is going to be a gamechanger.
With the noco jump pack if you have a completely dead battery you have to press and hold the red exclamation mark till you hear a click, you'll then have access to the packs power without any restrictions
Nico! Sometimes you look like you've just drank 2 cans of Tennants Super and had a spliff....and other times you look like you could do with 2 cans of Tennants Super and a spliff.
Keep up the good work!
Enjoyed this hour long video just as much as the previous ones big shout out to the torque monkey guys for their assistance in the making of this video glad to see no one was harmed apart from covering oneself in headlight polishing cream😅
Was just about to endure some Sunday morning DIY... Nope! Nino to the rescue with the video we've ALL been waiting for!
I have the same NOCO Boost pack, I ran into the same problem like you did. I later figured out that it needs to go into the override mode when the car battery is too low. Once I put into the override mode, it works perfect. started my 5.7 v8 truck with ease.
"you have to remember this is a 21yr old car"... That I would absolutely jizm myself if I won 😂
Same here I live in America an I would move there just to have a chance to win that car love the car an that body style
Welp, it’s 1:17am for me, not going to bed now :)
9:11 for me 😂😂
Yup.. same here . No bed time for me . 1:45 am 👍
Great job fella! Keep up the good work 👍🏻 Will be some motor when it’s done
A shop and a lift , you sir are living on Fat Cat Alley !! , this has to be one of the most underrated TV Shows on RUclips and you should have at least 1 million subscribers , you are a joy to watch and have a great sense of humor and a kind heart
One thing should be considered when adjusting headlights' height. You need to use vcds (or oem diagnostic tool) and start procedure from there) because of self leveling system. if you don't do it system will see fault values. You can find procedure on the web. VCDS xenon lights adjustment...
Appreciate the advice - I’ll take a look at it
Congratulations on getting that lift, it will make your life so much easier!
Remove... the... engine.. to remove....A VALVE COVER?! Absolute madness.
Also, the amount of sweat dripping off your head, after you got the valve cover off, that's insane that a valve cover removal was that much effort :o But what can I say, modern cars and their "wonderful" engineering D:
Another brilliant video, in awe of your energy and dedication and so pleased for you with your upgraded workshop space - thanks so much for sharing the hard won (very nearly now) victory. Also in admiration of your charitable endeavours - great choice of beneficiaries!
Hi Nino, the Noco boost starter has a bypass setting to start a battery that has low voltage.
When you first start the car it sounded like Chewbacca waking up 🤣
Nino you are a great guy. Always love that you give back in multiple ways during your give aways. Someone gets a nice car for cheap. And a charity gets some money as well. Plus you get to help fund the channel! Love ya bud. Thanks for being a good dude.
Really appreciate that bud 🤝
I love how happy you are about your car lift, I feel like I will relate to your joy. I'm still at the "Laying underneath the car on my gravel driveway" stage :D
“for once I’ve caught all the fluid…” meanwhile half flows down the left side of the car. 😂😂 and yes we can all relate to it!
Woo! So glad you're taking on this era of vehicle. I know people like their classics from the 60s/70s/80s/90s but I'm all about the 00+ era. Keep up the good work :)
Working on cars is a piece of piss........said no-one.......EVER!
I feel your pain bud. 🥴
Looking forward to seeing how this one finishes. 👌
Kudos regarding the Alder Hey donation. Its not far from me and its a brilliant hospital.
RIP little angels. ❤
I’m here because it’s refreshing to see other people struggling fiddling with cars in much the same way I do 😅
I subscribed to your channel when you said about the donations going to the children’s hospital after recent events. Good man, many wouldn’t even think to do that, respect to you sir. 👍
I could have a pop at you for changing a probably good pump, but as the guy who changed the left side drive shaft when it turned out the right wheel was loose😳ill let it go😂 great video.
I've been watching you for a while, and I'm real proud of you. You've come a long way.
Great job on the workshop
I mm I missed how you got into the workshop, and off the driveway, but great job.
Appreciate that. I introduced the workshop in the first black Mercedes video - at the end.
You know you have truly made it when you get a lift lol. Living the dream bud, wish i had one! Lovely car btw imo best generation of them as slightly less to go wrong.
Was thinking about you the other day whilst crawlinf around in the dirt trying to remove two rusted on rear control arms on my Kia 😂
Your channel and character are 1st class. Long may it continue 👌
Please go back to that old Jag and fix it up!
I live in Southport and would like to express my gratitude and appreciation of your choice of recipient. Really enjoy your channel Nino, even if you've moved from your driveway.
It would be nice if the air ambulance got some donations too. We had both NW and both North East air ambulances attend the incident in my hometown.
So basically the area from the Midlands to Scotland were without cover to get the kids to Alder Hey and Manchester Children’s hospital by air.
I knew this would be good when I heard the Jurassic Park style roaring from the steering.
Haha jurassic steering
Got my tickets. 3rd time lucky? Fingers crossed! Anyhow Nino I’ve never seen a man so happy about a 2 poster ramp. Believe me it’ll change your life. Like everything in life it has its ‘ups and downs’
You sir absolutely make my week !!!! Also make me do a hell of a lot more mechanics on my own Toyota Sequoia !!! Fantastic mate keep it going as you bring smiles to people's faces as we all know the struggle with mechanics. Ho I also have two dam audi's. Q7 and a q3. And you are right pain in the neck, love the videos matey
Ahh that's so cool to hear. Glad you're working on your won car
a hoist! i'm feeling your joy... and growth.
VGG's techniques - heat, bash, repeat... you're doing well.
I'm surprised how often these shows have battery issues
Nice work. MOT fail sheet isn't as daunting as seems at first and it makes for good content when you get to fix it. Keep up the good work.
New unit and ramp is a game changer.
Love the A6 Estate, would like an A6 Allroad as a toy! Love the look of the Allroad!
love the originality in his videos.
something tells me he will be like MAT Armstrong soon.
Thanks for all the good tips and fun seeing the things that you been doing with all these cars so far! Keep up the good work . Love the content and specially the sense of humour! Got my tickets now :)
Replace the power steering reservoir. There is a screen that is damaged or loosen the bottom that prevents aeration in the system. I recommend trying this before even thinking about replacing the rack.
Great content. I had 2 whining steering pumps fitted on a corporate Ford transit in 6months. In the end it was a hose that had clogged up like an artery. Discoloured Headlights 600, 800 grit, mask and clear coat. Buffing and the discolouration comes back.
I found myself smiling when you were showing the lift. I'm happy for you man!
Just watched the video 👌🏼 brings back memories of my old RS6 miss the V8😢
Mine had the same advisories for the brake line, upon closer inspection the brake lines are coated in something that’s makes it look like corrosion. Cleaned at the stuff off and then never showed on another MOT…….might be worth checking.
Keep up the good work.
Well done lad you’ve earned that…. I left mechanics in the early 2000’s and now I work with trees because I could see how cars were going with all the computers and stuff… I remember seeing an e46m3 in the Carpark outside my house parked beside my mums ford Granada and couldn’t believe the difference 7 years had made in design hahaaaa anyway it’s good because I haven’t needed a mechanic to fix my cars forever really unless it’s a wheel alignment.. you’re living my dream buddy I’d love that setup 👌🏻
You need to hold down the manual over ride button on the noco if the battery is very dead. I have the same boost pack and it started a car that had been sitting for 18 months
Seeing the excitement with the lift! Im no mechanic but have fixed my own cars in the past and i would have killed for a lift! The RS is looking and sounding great, heres to hoping i win 😊
Been looking forward to seeing this again, 5 tickets ordered!
You should order a front plate for it and keep a plate from each car that goes through the workshop on the wall somewhere
Not a bad shout. I’ll be replacing these plates anyway because they’re out of date with the eu flag on them
I just bought a 2002 Audi A6 4.2.... currently my 4th running and legal car on the road.
bringing this car back to life myself as of now. Luckily I found the car with only 97,000 miles. Parts are scarce as you know for the 8cyl cars. And many parts are different from 1997-2001.... To campared to 2002-2004.
Plus the 8cyl body and chassis are different to the diesel and 6cyl.
And I believe the 8cyl started in 2002 for the Audi A6.
These cars may look so alike but they are different in many ways.
I enjoyed your channel. Congratulations on continuing your success. Your a great example of goodness!
Feel free to hit me up with any ideas or questions I may help you with.
Live on the C5's......
I don't know everything about these cars. But I certainly know more than the average car owner!
Motivation is the key!
Great seeing your progression from squeezing between that fence and a car to where you are.... well done and keep going!!!
Appreciate that, Ian. You’ve been around since the early days!
@@NotEconomicallyViable and enjoyed every minute 😊
When the power steering pump was like that on my S4 B5 when I redid it all, I drove it around just how it sounded like when you first started the car up at beginning of the video. Went away in about 10 mins of city driving. Still going at 249,000 miles.
You could have saved money on the low loader and booked car in for mot. Drive to MOT and find out what's wrong, drive to workshop.
You are allowed to drive to MOT without one if booked in, and drive back if fails.
23:17 is my current job of turbo replacement on a BMW 335i in a nutshell. Heat, plus gas, big hammer, grip sockets they've all been out to play during this job 🙂
For future reference wiring on horn is back to front. Obvs still works but will pulse similar to a speaker wired wrong way. VAG earths are variants on brown. Those aftermarket connectors the red is live feed. Cheers for fab channel Nino
Holy Cr@p ! I own a C6 RS6 5 litre V 10 572 bhp and love it to bits despite its running costs and repair bills. Your C5 is its natural Daddy, but Im not really interested in yours ……..until I saw the number plate. I am Richard Stuart Bacon……… I will be entering your compo many times SIMPLY because of the plate. Its fate. My second car is a1993 Astra F estate that I bought…… because it was registered on my birthday. I kid you not. I have bought cars in the passed for vey tentative reasons. But never got it wrong……yet.
I have sold a lot of these Noco boosters, 40-60 units perhaps, and I have actually had approx 10 units come back being bad. Warranty covered all of them. But when they are good from the beginning they seem to be good and start most things.
I can’t believe you’re getting rid of her! Have you fallen out of love with her? I’m a diy mechanic and can’t get on with a lift, all the years of working on the floor mean that when I use my mates the cars is always at the wrong height or I’ve forgotten to pop the bonnet or I’ve got the wheel on but the bolts are on the floor 🤦♂️ . nice touch with the charity choice 👍
You must be delighted with that lift, well deserved you've done jobs on the ground that a qualified mechanic wouldn't touch.
Great to see the Audi being finished, just bought a few tickets ❤
14:08 vibes of excitement after many many hours of sacrifice... I'm feeling it.... All the best mate... life changing tools...
Everytie you use your new lift, I'm smiling with you!! Great work Nino!!
Thank you! 😃
with that nocco ive got the one down from it and it literally has jumpstarted everything ive pushed at it..its bloody amazing..id see if they can send you a new one..they are some of the best on the market..
Thanks Nino. I'm loving your approach, just being yourself as far as i can tell. Your enthusiasm for tackling things others wouldn't and satisfaction derived therefrom is much appreciated by me. I wish you'd kept the Spitfire and used or to learn welding. That would have been another game changer for you. Plus there are very few cooler, more raw motoring experiences than driving a Spit. But it's important that you make your own decisions and move forward as you see fit. Best wishes and thanks. Leon
Thanks so much for the generosity and the kind words, Leon 🤝
Grea to see you advancing lad and congrats on the lift. Big things ahead 😊
That lift is a real winner! I’ve always loved this RS6. Would be a dream to win her
The man’s a pure RUclips natural! Much success nino
45:03 bleed the pump while the front wheels are up in the air, turn it side to side before you turn the engine on it there’s a chance you’ll run the pump again.
Cheers Pat 🇦🇺
A lift is a game changer for sure!! At 25:40 if you would grab that red parts cart sitting in the middle of the room and put you tools and parts on it you wouldn't almost fall on your head don't you think?
Yeah 100% but I spilled brake fluid in it and just can’t be bothered to clean it all out with the flaking paint haha
A lift is life changing. Glad to see you got one.
Those jump packs are excellent, when the battery is that flat you need to hit the override button so the car gets all the juices
Nino the Norco is a great bit of kit. It's never failed me! Started my old D3, no issues. Just use error I reckon! 🤦
Great work, absolutely love this video from start till finish. 👏🏻
good video, quick tip nobody outside of the UK knows what a jubilee clip is... call them hose clamps and you'll be good :)
Thanks for the info!
For Nuco jump packs if you have a completely dead battery you have to press the emergency button, that overrides the intelligent chip and sends full power. I’ve got one and touch wood it’s worked every time for my a6 🤞🏽
5:00 damn, that power steering rack does a good Wookie impression
Love your work kit😊
All the best to you and your loved onces from DK,
great channel🎉
Started watching your channel because of the RS6. Continued because of the great content so guess it's right that I enter the competition to win it.
How did you pay ? Bloody QR code never appears.Driving me mad.
@@amazulu3401haven't entered yet, did it last time on my desktop computer. Will wait until the next time it's switched on to do it.
Love this guy. Putting out hour long videos as some car youtubers split one car into about 10 different videos just for more ad revenue
