Amazingly I was able to score one of these this past week. The online retailer apparently found one left in inventory that has been sitting for a few years :) It was marked as "damaged condition" (meaning the packaging) but arrived with a tiny rip on the box and everything else was perfect. I did apply the stickers to mine because it really pops with them, but I will say that the stickers were not nearly as sticky as I am used to from Transformers. Might be that the glue is drying up due to age, so I hope they stay. I think each has some QC issues that are different. Mine does not exhibit that head issue you have, but I did have an outrageously tight legged Cerebros. Took much force to move those legs...so much so that I had to use all of my might. After a few transformations it eased up...but that was scary. Other than that, wow what a figure. My personal holy grail of the G1 series and I am ecstatic to own him finally!
I've got this very same figure; the Takara reissue Encore #23. Back in 2015, I bought him at an anime convention for $300 and he's remained in the box. I never had an original Fort Max as a kid either but eventually hope to get an original G1 someday. However, the Takara Encore is a fantabulous addition to my Transformers collection. Holy grail indeed!!!
Well I got mine through Amazon US, and it only cost $175US with postage. It was through a third party distributor, and I got it as a birthday present, alongside the Harry Potter Wizard's Collection, which I got for a discounted price through Amazon UK compared to $500AU to buy it locally. It was a holy grail find for me, and to get a reissue worked brilliantly for me.
hell of a reissue, I sold off my incomplete G1 to get this. buying the parts would've cost more than this reissue. took me an hour to put the stickers on, that's always been my favorite part of a G1 figure...excited for the Titan version coming later this year.
The titans return version is kinda disappointing. The alt modes suck, even the city mode sucked because all you have to do is just spread out the legs after you turn him into his “big guy sleeping” mode. But the robot mode looks alright.
Omg !!! Im so psyched that u did a review of this! This was up there with my gaogaigar hopes! X3 speaking of... Cant wait for your gaogaigar special :3
My friend...when you said he couldn't be that fast because..."He's a city.." I laughed for a couple straight minutes. Great work my friend. I just got my Fort Max and was going to do an unboxing overview on my channel too...but he is missing one of his elevator gray flap covers. Sigh!!! Thanks as always, great work!
I got this one just now and you are right baltmatrix, this is one is awesome. After I transformed this to the city and battle station mode my inner child was screaming in excitement.
I was lucky to find one of these in 2013. I did my research, and discovered a cheap means of buying the reissue from Amazon US. It only cost $150AU including postage. Thank goodness for third party sellers!
Just got acquainted with FM after 26 years. Got him in Dec. of '87', but then gave my entire TF collection away. Just got my FM reissue this past May. G1 FOREVER!!
Hay baltmatrix just received fortress maximus today and i noticed what you were talking about with the head being a tight fit to get on. My brave max does not have that issue, would you have an idea. Also what do you think of brave maximus, i like the colors for it . Great video as usual
Though I have some serious appreciation for this collectors' item and its history, I think that the small Kabaya sized version was good enough to have the fun of this figure while not busting my shelf space.
the red piece's on the ramp's have to be softer plastic as you have to un-clip them off the white ramp's to fit the sticker's. it's a great toy that i had to wait til now to get, i love it.
Awesome review! I'm not much of a TF collector myself, just pick up the odd figure that catches my eye. But this is definitely a must have for me, I'm too young to have watched the original TF, but my older cousin had one, and it was just the coolest thing ever to play with when I was visiting.
I don't think it's yellowed. It's possibly because of his lights. At certain angles,it's white. And it's the Encore, they fixed the plastic so that it either won't yellow or have gold plastic syndrome. Search up 'gold plastic syndrome' if you don't know the meaning.
I have the original but just the body it was my uncles and I didn't realize what it was till a few years after my grandmother threw out his accessories
Spada's wife takes one look at Fort Max....Spada spends the night in the dog house....literally as he's side of the bed is taking up by a large toy box that Fortress Maximus came in. :D Seriously though, great review. :)
True, but he's still by no means small, 2inch difference in height is not a big deal, but I'm happy to see Metroplex finally getting to be the large size that he was meant to be! I have the encore version, impressive and he is the first base/city former of his kind (don't know if Omega Supreme counts as a base or not) so Takara didn't imphasize on height.
Coming from your double-review of the Titans Return Fort Max, I would imagine playing the main theme of The Headmasters from the Legends version release.
That is soo true. What if someone tries to sell the re-issue in pieces, like the COG figure, or his arms and weapons and say those are original G1 Fort Max parts and you'll be paying a lot for it!
It wont, but I'm sure they will do a redeco for convention exclusive. BBTS has the Japanese release for pre-order but its over $200, I'll wait for the American release!
It depends on your preference. If you want this guy, then get him. If you want FOC Metroplex, wait for him. But I would say Metroplex. It's bigger than Fortress Maximus, and is going to cost $200+,which is cheaper than Fort Max. In short,Metroplex is bigger yet cheaper than Fort Max.
Hold up, got that mixed up with the imperial system. Metroplex weighs one KILOGRAM less than Fortress Maximus... Fort Max comes in at 5 kg (11 lbs.) while Metroplex is at 4 kg (9 lbs.), so he's more like four-fifths the weight of Fort Max...
Here is an advice to all those that have this model and metroplex and want to have a real atoubot city: take old computers and scanners and any other thing like them, add the big bots in the way you like, add cybervers figures and walla a city of atoubots
I hope the stickers hide some of the screw holes on cerebros (idk if its spelled this way). If not thats fine. Oh I'm in 2021, and own the modern titans return but thinking of finding this figure and buying soon. Thx for the review.

He reminds me of the Jaegers from Pacific Rim. Just trying to fit weapons wherever they can.
Have it and I will NEVER regret that purchase.
Optimus:Opa Gangnam Style
Maximus:Optimus get off me that's embarasing
XD
Omg !!! Im so psyched that u did a review of this! This was up there with my gaogaigar hopes! X3 speaking of... Cant wait for your gaogaigar special :3
Damn this this thing is still the best transformer eight years later.
That last Blooper gave me a good laugh!
Excellent review! I'm trying to buy this guy but I need to make some more room in my collection. Did you purchase your Fortmax at BBTS?
I got this one just now and you are right baltmatrix, this is one is awesome. After I transformed this to the city and battle station mode my inner child was screaming in excitement.
How
If only Titans Return Fortress Maximus had Gasket and Grommet.
I was lucky to find one of these in 2013. I did my research, and discovered a cheap means of buying the reissue from Amazon US. It only cost $150AU including postage. Thank goodness for third party sellers!
The 80s figures were bit on the primitive side
Im glad they perfected the production of these transformers
:)
Just got acquainted with FM after 26 years. Got him in Dec. of '87', but then gave my entire TF collection away. Just got my FM reissue this past May. G1 FOREVER!!
Oh god that thing with Megatron was priceless. If you ever make a "best of" type video, that MUST be included!
Hay baltmatrix just received fortress maximus today and i noticed what you were talking about with the head being a tight fit to get on. My brave max does not have that issue, would you have an idea. Also what do you think of brave maximus, i like the colors for it . Great video as usual
Another review added to my favs simply for the bloopers. Spada, you make the best bloopers!
After all these years this figure is still impressive.
Great. Googly. Moogly.
That review, and that toy, were freaking awesome!
And I LOLed at the bloopers. :D
Until next time...
Anon e Mouse Jr.
I got the reissue back in 2014 and man I had him out a few times. I love this guy.
Yeah he is big and I love this guy...everyone should get a piece of forty!!!!!
Man this figure is amazing, How did you end up displaying this?
Though I have some serious appreciation for this collectors' item and its history, I think that the small Kabaya sized version was good enough to have the fun of this figure while not busting my shelf space.
the red piece's on the ramp's have to be softer plastic as you have to un-clip them off the white ramp's to fit the sticker's. it's a great toy that i had to wait til now to get, i love it.
That's one heck of a colossal transformer
Best ending to any of your vids ever!
from what I've heard there will be a convention exclusive version, but we will also get regular retailer and Takara versions.
Biggest just got dethroned
Hope so too, that would be smart since its Fort Max's nemesis!
It's pretty expensive. But considering this is a giant,$300 is a steal. Pretty good price for a toy this big.
Awesome review! I'm not much of a TF collector myself, just pick up the odd figure that catches my eye. But this is definitely a must have for me, I'm too young to have watched the original TF, but my older cousin had one, and it was just the coolest thing ever to play with when I was visiting.
I wouldn't be displaying it I be playing it every day if I had 1 😞
god thats just beautiful
I don't think it's yellowed. It's possibly because of his lights. At certain angles,it's white. And it's the Encore, they fixed the plastic so that it either won't yellow or have gold plastic syndrome. Search up 'gold plastic syndrome' if you don't know the meaning.
All u got to do is lift Spike's legs a little up, so the head clings down to connect to his body. That way u don't force it much.
The scale of this Figure is Great my friends. Is an exellent Design really. Thanks.
I have the original but just the body it was my uncles and I didn't realize what it was till a few years after my grandmother threw out his accessories
Not only is he a walking city, Fort Max is also a walking gun.
kind mobie to watch
The CEO from Hasbro at NY toyfare said September, but they tend to change dates, so sometime around there!
Large and Impressive. Excellent work, good sir.
Suribros has been taking steroids, drank a lot of Red Bull, and went to college.
I was excited as all get out for this reissue...but suddenly, Metroplex. Now my desire for a Fort Max has been significantly dulled. XD
Spada's wife takes one look at Fort Max....Spada spends the night in the dog house....literally as he's side of the bed is taking up by a large toy box that Fortress Maximus came in. :D Seriously though, great review. :)
I heard him called the holy grail of the g1 line
Base mode is better than the Titans return figure in so many ways
True, but he's still by no means small, 2inch difference in height is not a big deal, but I'm happy to see Metroplex finally getting to be the large size that he was meant to be! I have the encore version, impressive and he is the first base/city former of his kind (don't know if Omega Supreme counts as a base or not) so Takara didn't imphasize on height.
You don't want to put the stickers on him?! HE NEEDS STICKERS!!!
I love the bloopers
I totally agree, Hasbro needs to bring back the box art that was so awesome on the 1980s Transformers packaging.
Man that thing has some serious yellowing!
Cerberos's communications tower mode looks like a AT-ST
Another funny thing about Fort. Max.....His Headmaster is a Headmaster
Great review on a great figure! Was looking forward to this review from this figures release.
Supreme Starscream is the same size as Unicron iirc, so you have the reference there.
Katabuya is the company that makes the toy/candy kits!
Coming from your double-review of the Titans Return Fort Max, I would imagine playing the main theme of The Headmasters from the Legends version release.
how proud you are about this Figure XD.but youre right with that
That is soo true. What if someone tries to sell the re-issue in pieces, like the COG figure, or his arms and weapons and say those are original G1 Fort Max parts and you'll be paying a lot for it!
He was made in 1987,so it's not super articulated. This is a reissue of the original.
I heard you like headmasters, so we made your headmaster unit a headmaster
It's going to be bigger. From what I remember seeing, that is.
It wont, but I'm sure they will do a redeco for convention exclusive. BBTS has the Japanese release for pre-order but its over $200, I'll wait for the American release!
Almost had this toy for my birthday.. but they were out of stock so I got Scorponok instead.
and after the box was open it was a good 2 hours, before spada put down the bubblewrap.
He's supposed to be a communications room.
yeeesh! i have the kabaya model kit release, and it's voyager size.
They will, there are pictures. But it looks more like a Sharkticon and Megatron's love child.
Poor Megatron. Made to sound so girly just at the sight of Optimus' KICKIN' new sword. I want that thing to give to my Tigerhawk.
He's probably fast due to his space fortress mode.
The new Metroplex figure is just a hair taller than the G1 FortMax
Hold up, got that mixed up with the imperial system. Metroplex weighs one KILOGRAM less than Fortress Maximus... Fort Max comes in at 5 kg (11 lbs.) while Metroplex is at 4 kg (9 lbs.), so he's more like four-fifths the weight of Fort Max...
well until Metro is released, to this date, Fort Max is the biggest!
Its a headmaster of a headmaster
That elevator swivel looks awkward because of its location in robot mode.
Dick switch!
sound like..something evil u open in the opening..awesome review..i was nearly want to buy him..but i change my mind
It's SPACESHIP BRUCE!!!
Man you are so lucky!
Poor Unicron doesn't even come close...
in height perhaps, but I imagine metroplex will weight maybe a third of what Fort Max does.
(The Legend of Zelda recieving sound)
You got: A Fortress Maximus!
I wish they would make this model (slightly updated) today
the new generations metroplex will be bigger
I love your videos
Here is an advice to all those that have this model and metroplex and want to have a real atoubot city: take old computers and scanners and any other thing like them, add the big bots in the way you like, add cybervers figures and walla a city of atoubots
all I can say is he's BIG
he's taller, fullmetalhero had images where we see generations metroplex peering over fort max.
It was Hegemon,made from Toyworld.
I feel so ashamed for not being to get him.
I hope the stickers hide some of the screw holes on cerebros (idk if its spelled this way). If not thats fine. Oh I'm in 2021, and own the modern titans return but thinking of finding this figure and buying soon. Thx for the review.
Im in 2023 and I just got one over the upcoming TR Maximus Reissue
HEH he looked like he turned into a empire walker fighter from star wars.
Great video! Thanks a lot!
Cerebros's sword is a crossed cinqueda i
フォートレスマキシマスはG1時代の物が最強!
作りがシンプルな為、壊れにくいのが好きです!
I truly hope they release an Encore Black Zarak without Gold Plastic Syndrome.
Battleship mode : Shockwave.
Fort Max has been over throned by TRANSFORMERS Generation Titan Class Metroplex
I've heard that Metroplex weighs only about 1lb. less than Fort Max.
