Wow. What an amazing Alto Mrs. Speer had. I sure hope to sing with her and her talented family on the holy hills

I was taught that we are saved by grace: that any man’s good works were inadequate to earn salvation. So, this song is in opposition to the beliefs of the Baptist religion.

I think of this as the self-righteous anthem.

Me too, which is why I think it’s poetic, there is nothing wrong with being confident in being a Christian, without faith it is impossible to please God

It's not scripturally based. The Bible says our works are like filthy rags in God's eyes, therefore we should give God all of our praise for His mercy on us. It is only because of Jesus' sacrifice that we are forgiven. Not by works of righteousness.

My memory is that his came out in one of the Stamps-Baxter convention books; and I remember The Stamps Baxter Quartet singing this, the one that had a lady that sang alto and played the accordian. Perhaps someone can correct me on this...my memory not being what it used to be !!!

Stamps-Baxter was an all male group. Mom Speer played the accordion as well. They’re who you’re thinking of.
