- To fix the 0x80070422 Error that appears when you Update Windows 10 , follow these simple methods:
Open the services in your system - Locate for the following three services and make sure that all of them are running automatically:
1 - Windows Event Collector
2 - Windows Event Log
3 - Windows Update
Open each of them - change their startup type as ‘Automatic’ - Click on ‘Apply’ - ‘Start’ - ‘OK’ .
Now try to update once again. Your problem should be fixed..!!

I had forgotten I set up no automatic updates at all through services when I installed Win 10 on this machine. All was great until I eventually couldn't access the Microsoft Store ( ooops ). All I did was set Windows to delay updates for a few days, and Microsoft saw fit to disable 2 of the 3 services - and then couldn't turn them back on "automatically" when I requested updates. I'm experienced with this stuff, and it's still a bit shocking (here in the 21st Century!) that Windows often can't get out of its own way.

Steps 1-2 worked but after step 3 (Windows update), i hit apply and what i got was "Access is denied".
I clicked "ok" and it still showed "Access is denied" so i had to select cancel at this stage.
Pleae, what do i do?

It appears a pop that has "access is denied" in it when I chose to apply in window update.

the first two steps work ok. the last step (Windows Update) gives an "Access denied" message.
I tried to deny Win10 to automatically update the system via the tool on this website:

Turns out that this was causing this error when I wanted to install .net frameworks, so I went into the programme again, unchecked the box that says "protect system services settings" and after that also the last step in this video worked. Now, I don't know if this is applicable to your situation, but it might be worth a try if nothing else works.
@@lif4679 I used a script through powershell that turned the updates off.. not really a program. Is there somewhere through windows where I can turn them on again? The last step I get access denied as well..

@Berlin I tried asking the person without a reply. Anything even as admin leads to denial. Would be great if they made a script to undo the script. Sadly a clean install will have to do..

What happens if regardless what you do under windows update, it wont change from windows disabled. It keeps getting an error of 1114 and will not start. Just stays stuck on disabled
