  • In the late summer and early fall along tributaries in Mendocino County, you might encounter the hustle and bustle of Corpsmembers speaking a peculiar language. Shouts of hold, grip, slack, horseshoe, rowing the boat; just to name a few. It’s the language of salmon habitat restoration, and #CCCUkiah Corpsmembers are fluent. They use trees, logs really, to scour creek and riverbeds during high winter waters so that endangered and threatened fish species can have an easier time of surviving and spawning in the drier months. There’s no heavy machinery at these work sites, just young adults using their bodies and brains to help save a species. Now, that’s a language we can all understand.
