    to protect people from sharks.
    The Shark Stop wetsuits are unable to be slashed or ripped by knives or the sharpest of teeth, and are just days away from hitting the market.

    Most sharks take 1 initial big bite and fall back , how often do you here of people dying because they were crushed by a shark. Compared to bleeding out , it’s a great step forward but needs further testing on a dummy swimmer or diver and with more shark species so we can all see effects

    I remember back in the 1970's I had me self a night out on the piss and pizza and I went surfing in the night whilst being pissed.
    I think being drunk saved my life because we went surfing naked in my pool. That was fair enough until I farted and poos came out and I vomiting in the pool.

    The only problem is seen here is that the fabric came from the design of a stab vest, sharks don't stab. They bite a lot harder than a stab. Look, It's an incredible invention, and the idea is headed in the right direction, but it needs more work in my opinion.
    If the wetsuit can withstand a bite punture with it's nanofibers from a Great White, the shear force would crush whatever the shark is biting. It only takes about 150psi to break a femur. Great white bite is 4000psi lol. Rather have the individual shark shield to keep the sharks away. Maybe look at integrating a shark shield into the water for added protection.

      You’d be surprised how much force a human can generate with a stab. In addition, that force is only concentrated on the tip of one blade, whereas a shark’s bite force is spread over many teeth. That’s why a person can lay down on a bed of nails with little discomfort, but can’t lay down on 1-2 nails without being punctured. So the forces “per point” probably end up being pretty similar for large sharks and standings. Also, it’s theorized that sharks “taste” with their gums. If they bite down and their teeth won’t sink in up to the gumline, or if the gums hit some non-fleshy object, then they’re less likely to apply their full bite force and try to eat whatever it is. (They do sometimes keep attacking surfboards, but that’s thought to be more territorial.) These fibers also catch in the serrations of a shark’s teeth and can cause it discomfort, so it wants to get them out of its mouth.
      Now, of course the shark can still break your arm, leg, ribs, etc with the impact and/or bite force, but you can survive that pretty easily. What you can’t survive is a bunch of severed arteries. This suit is designed to keep the teeth from penetrating deeply enough to hit major blood vessels and remove chunks of flesh. You’ll still get some shallow cuts, and you might get blunt force injuries, but it greatly increases your window of time to get to a hospital.

    Some issues i can see. In Australia, It is illegal to possess body armor without authorization. So with a stab proof vest being illegal this maybe as well. Great white and tiger sharks can bite over 2000 psi so crush damage will still kill you. Think of wearing this wetsuit and a crocodile bites you will be crushed. Saying all that its better then nothing and would really help vs the smaller shark like bull,lemons and whalers.

    • @user-uc3qg3pq4w
      @user-uc3qg3pq4w 2 года назад +14

      @The B5 i already did, i read several studies, including the peer reviewed one made available on the website of the developers of the wetsuit, thats why i said the most common cause of death in shark attack victims who survived the initial attack is blood loss, if the wetsuit reduces the chance of this happening then its obviously going to reduce number of deaths from shark attacks

    • @NoName-gc9tu
      @NoName-gc9tu 2 года назад +2

      The wet suit isn’t designed to withstand pressure and puncture. It’s more so based on shark psychology. Unlike humans, sharks don’t have hands and fingers to play around and with and find out if food is edible, instead they use their eyesight and jaws. More often than not if a shark bites on something and realises it’s not a squishy seal or fish it will let go and leave. Sharks aim to use as little energy as possible and go for the easiest meals. Unfortunately a test bite from a shark can slash through human flesh and kill, but with this wet suit, it might protect you from a test bite, and also make the shark think your not edible.

    • @bluemarlin8138
      @bluemarlin8138 Год назад

      The principle of the suit isn’t to keep the teeth out entirely, at least for large sharks. The tips of the teeth may get through and cause some damage. But supposedly, they won’t penetrate deeply enough to sever major blood vessels or remove chunks of flesh or limbs. You can still get relatively shallow cuts and broken bones, but you’ll have a much longer window to get medical attention than you would without the suit. If you want a completely tooth-proof suit, go drop $10K on a chainmaille shark suit.
