    We show how using a mortar sprayer and a bit of skill and imagination, we create a cement plaster or stucco-reinforced retaining wall that effectively stops road and mountain erosion and the cosmetics from being attractive when viewed.
    I detail tools and their use and explain various helpful plastering tips.

    How many tons of dry cement plaster mix did this take?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  11 месяцев назад +1

      I had about 7 tons of sand dropped and used about 60 bags of Portland cement plaster, Excellent question. Towards the end, I started shoveling the stucco out of the wheel barrel directly on the mountain. 💃🏻

      @@StuccoPlastering Thank you kindly for such a quick reply! That's really interesting. I could see where some of the "holes" under the wire would have required a lot of time to fill with a sprayer. Nice to learn that sometimes a shovel is the best tool! I guess it's like you said in the video: sometimes you gotta improvise ...

    Hi Dusty, I used pure common cement plaster for this as I wanted it strong without worry of over mixing.
    It’s the cheapest product on the market and the hardest to spread without the plastic added for workability, but it’s the second season without any cracking.
    And I used the Mortar sprayer.
    This is amazing with the hundreds of tons of water, pressure and the freezing weather with extreme heat.
    Have a great day!

    Good morning R Rice, excellent question.
    The Portland common cement plaster I used for this project is porous, it holds back some water but the excess moister will eventually seep through. Almost all concrete and stucco cements are porous unless chemically altered.
    Thanks for watching and have a great day!

    I used common cement plaster on this project, for more strength as the cement has to hold up a mountain, however pure common cement is tough to apply.
    I would suggest you use premium cement plaster. It’s the best of both worlds common for strength, and plastic for easier applications.

    lol. Kirk. Sorry. I need to stop staying up late watching your great videos. what I meant about the cfm and psi. In your video you talked about the sprayer needing a good psi of air to work properly. (needing a big air compressor / tank.) What you actually need is a large cfm (cubic feet of air per min) at a constant psi. Keep up the great work as well as great videos.

    Kirk,
    This looks great! I'm looking to do this on a 4' retaining wall that runs 100' across my property. I read through the comments and you mention that you use "common cement plaster". I'm not finding that at lowes or homedepot. Are you referring to Portland type II or III with no sand or aggregate? Thank you! - Randy

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  10 лет назад

      Hi rigj, click on the link below as it may explain better,
      ruclips.net/video/zc2rHop_HGY/видео.html
      I always add sand to my 94 pound bags with clean water.
      In the old days common cement plaster was always in red or orange bags (early 80's and 90's)
      we mixed it with plastic cement plaster to not only keep it strong but make it spreadable. I don't know what the bags at Home Depot or Lowe's stores sell as I buy from Westside building materials.
      I used common with sand on this wall as it's stronger but a drag to spread but I shot it on and wanted the strongest cement plaster available.
      Odd thing is the common cement plaster is always the cheapest in cost too, as it's tough to spread by itself, I think?
      I also did a few fish ponds with this same cement plaster too.
      Best wishes,
      Kirk and family

    If you use a breathable membrane behind the wire netting. it saves up to 20-25% less mortar that letting it go right through. Also stops cracking as the rear wont be sucking up tons of moisture from the hill.which will freeze and expand in the winter. I also add some sandstone colour whist mixing. just to get the grey out of the way. French Sablon guns are lighter and last longer.
