Some of the tunnels under the castle were used as pistol ranges by local clubs and the police. They were blocked off when the area around Robin Hood’s statue was renovated recently.
The perfect way to end a long week! Time traveling with Sarah! I learn so much! Thank you Sarah! I look forward to all of your videos!!
Thanks for sharing the history of Nottingham Castle. So sad and tragic that those young Welsh 12 and 14 year olds were executed by King John in 1212.😢 You are a delightful narrator and host!🤗
Dear Sarah, thanks once again for illuminating an aspect of history from the Tudor period, as I had always just associated Nottingham with Robin Hood! Blessings, Colleen XXX
Hello. In 1914 my grand mother went into labor & gave birth to my mother in Nottingham Castle. My grandmother was Maude Newey. She was a professional tailor/seamstress in England. Is this anything you could look into more for me & my three brothers?
Hi Sarah! :)
Oh my goodness, that is so sad about the Welsh boys!
7:09 😂 indeed happy times!
It's so incredible to hear of all the stories you wouldn't necessarily know, the hexagonal room sounds particularly beautiful.
I'd love to come visit someday in the future! 💚
I really liked your video, today. I learned lots from you. I have not seen any other video on Nottingham castle.
I also want to say that I loved seeing your lovely smile again.
Your hair looks great.
You have a great rapport and connection with your audience.
I can't wait to see the letter O.
Thumbs up from mike in st annes
Thanks 'Mike in St Anne's'!😁
I'm looking forward to visiting the newly renovated Nottingham Castle, once the health restrictions are lifted. Thank you for the information, I live only a few miles from Nottingham and didn't know half of the Castle's history.
I wish I had a Castle only a few steps away. I'd would be right there.🤗
You see, I'm from the USA. I live on the west coast in Oregon. We have little history. Maybe, 200 years on the west coast. Most things was make out of Wood. England has stones and rock buildings. All I am saying is you have lots of history. Probably you have some in your own back yard. Lucky you, I'm jealous. ❤️🙏❤️
Yes, there are masses of historic places within a relatively short drive, in common with most of the UK. It's fabulous if you're a History fan.
I think, I need to move to the UK because of all the history.
I live in Nottingham and like you, knew very little of the castle's history. My employer's former premises overlooked the castle and grounds. Watched the renovation work from my office until last March and am curious to see the end result. Hopefully it is not a let down. Would be great if the "proper" castle was still in existence as I don't like what is in it's place.
@@clareb8015. It always reminded me of a birthday cake. A full reproduction would be incredible.
If I had $1 for every time I have been to Nottingham Castle… I’d be stinking rich!
And it has closed again, I hear?
The last king of Scotland met his end in the dundgeons he scratched his name on the wall with his fingernails
Some of the tunnels under the Castle were used as shooting ranges up until the recent renovations around Robin Hood’s statue when they were blocked.
Did Nottingham Castle once have a medieval medicinal herb garden tended by monks, as would have been the fashion at the time? And if you don't know, can you recommend a source that might avail my search? It's for a research project.
