I've been burned by warmups before that hurt my throat. This one was perfect! I appreciate the thoughtful movement through ng and bub before fully opening up. Going to use this a lot!!
It's been nearly ten years since I did vocal warm ups. Sang along a 60 second instrumental and felt out of breath. I've missed singing and the way I sounded. This helped break the ice getting back in vocal shape.
Thank you. I am a second alto, sang polyphony in church choirs for years. But I haven't sung for 10 years, and my range has dropped down to contralto. My upper range has shrunk! But I want to join a new choir, and I need to a) reactivate my voice, b) become more confident, and c) improve my upper range. Even doing these exercises has been very helpful. I reckon if I did them every day it would help.
Thank you for this warmup. I've reached a new height and power with my head voice just doing this warmup right before keynote gigs, teaching and singing and it's the perfect length.
I love this warm up! I felt it was just enough of a challenge to really kick my voice into gear but also smooth enough for my range so I didn’t struggle to hit it! I will definitely save this video and use this as my pre show warm up!
That's fantastic to hear! I'm glad you found the warm-up both challenging and comfortable for your range. It’s great that you’re planning to use it as your pre-show routine-having a solid warm-up can really make a difference. Keep up the great work, and enjoy your performances!
I haven’t trained for quite some time, and I’m on my Church music team; and have just been doing random warm-ups. This one I can just tell was very productive and helped with technique very much! Thank you!
Loved this! I’m a singer in a band but neglected warm ups for the first year in my band. Let me tell you it makes all the difference 😅 I try to do this at least once a day, and definitely before shows.
I really liked this video. I also felt like every time you looked up it was as if you were saying: "Good job, keep up the good work." It felt very personal and friendly, it was as if you were checking up to make sure that I was doing well. Nice video!
I used be a soprano years ago in highschool then I realized I can’t sing super high anymore and I struggle with super high notes and my voice feels comfortable with a lower range this warmup felt comfortable and effortless for me even the high notes and normally I get jaw tension or throat tension when trying to sing harder warmups I didn’t feel any tension with this warmup
This really helped thank you! I getting family talent show, and my voice wasn't working since we had just been rock climbing and ziplining, so i was out of breath and tired from yelling, but this cleared up my voice, thank you!
i’m a girl using my bfs act and same i sing stuff like amy winehouse comfortably but find myself straining very early like at a c5 even and sometimes going up an octave on my lowest instead of pushing through. 😩😬 i’m blaming it on a lack of practice-lola
Honey, that’s what an alto is. Comfortable with their lower range. You could also be a contralto which is even rarer than altos themselves being deeper than the normal alto like Etta James for example. There’s a channel called BlackMuiscArchives that has really good material in his videos there should be one to explain. In his singer breakdowns I learnt a lot and he has covered a lot of altos like Tina Turner and Toni Braxton
Hey Camille, thanks so very much for this video for us Altos. 😄 I have tried a number of videos but this is absolutely perfect and the best one for me. I have done this one numerous times to warm up for my singing so yeah it's always my go-to and I highly recommend it to others as it is just simply the best. Thanks so much!!! 😊❤❤
Hi again! As it turns out the first and last exercises were fine this time. What I seem to be noticing is that I think I might be in the lower register of the alto type of zone. I've never taken professional singing lessons. I can just kind of sing a little bit. When I reach the last 3/4 of the High notes, I feel a tightening and a strain that just does not feel OK. But when I'm on the lower register it feels like I can keep going down further. So should I stop once I start feeling that tightening uncomfortable feeling? I would imagine so but you are the professional. Thank you so much! So glad I came across your channel :-).
Make sure you are staying in within your range when practicing. You can drop out any time during the exercises if they get to high for you. Thanks for tuning in!
Entirely dependent on your range. If the exercise is taking you high in your range where your chest voice can't comfortably hit the notes, go ahead and switch to head voice.
i SO appreciate you and your channel, but this starts out too high for alto range and doesn't go low enough...i was taught by several teachers and coaches that you're supposed to start by warming up your lower range, then gradually go up. i'm a mezzo trying to get an alto range, and this is moreso in the realm of what i do for mezzo warm ups...
I like the warms up but it would have been better if you put the description in the notes, as I don’t need listen to the guidance every time I want to warm up. I would have signed up to the course but too much talking put me off.
I hear you-finding the right guidance can be tough, especially when lessons push past your comfort zone. Start by working within your natural range (even if it feels low) and build confidence there. Focus on breath control, relaxing your voice, and slowly expanding upward with gentle exercises. A good coach will meet you where you are and help you grow at your pace-don’t give up!
Whatever range your voice sits in comfortably is the range you are. You can work to extend your vocal range too - ruclips.net/video/EecSsVgM3TM/видео.html
A male that is able to sing above the typical bass, baritone, tenor is a countertenor. So yes a male alto is possible just not common. You should search up that history of castros.
Ugh, I feel like we don’t talk enough about lip trills making my nose itch lol. It’s an unbearable itch. Like 3 half steps in and I have to rub my nose. U just get used to it or? Cause I been warming up for 12 years and it’s still the same 😭😭
A lip trill is an itchy exercise, but it's great for feeling the movement of the exhalation. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of anything you could do to reduce that sensation, but you can absolutely swap out lip trills for straw singing or another lip trill alternative.
I honestly don't like it when you guys just assume everyone knows the piano keys...i would rather suggest that the illustration be more than the piano stuff thanks..
I've been burned by warmups before that hurt my throat. This one was perfect! I appreciate the thoughtful movement through ng and bub before fully opening up. Going to use this a lot!!

That's great! Thanks for watching

I do tongue trills instead.

It helps if you hold your cheeks gently with your fingers near the corners of your lips.

If I add your Tenor warmup, your Baritone warmup, and this one, I can evade the passaggio (mostly) and get my voice started.
I couldn't do the last exercise. I can't do lip trills to save my life.
Keep trying!!
Pinch your cheeks/chin and it will work!

@@chelisimhayyev What is the highest note you can reach with chest voice?
I don't know notes but when I practice these exercises, exercises like 2, 4,5 they get to my head voice.

am i the only one who stuggles with warmup 2?
Keep at it!
Is the open vowel excercise supposed to be done with chest voice or head voice?
Entirely dependent on your range. If the exercise is taking you high in your range where your chest voice can't comfortably hit the notes, go ahead and switch to head voice.

yeah just a tad bit 😭 i was like “you want me to start up here!?” it’s not impossible but might be difficult for some
I'm not gonna lie this boosted my confidence SO HARD because I sound like I'm croaking doing these and hated how I sounded😂

Loosen up my shoulders? Being tense gives power to my voice! Fugget it!
Actually, tension restricts your power and the economy of your physical ability. Key is to be loose and controlled.
Okay madam am desire to be familiar to this kind of voice
I found the open vowel part WAY too high! I found myself stepping down an octave half-way through!
Nice adjustment!
I can't sing high and it's been extremely difficult finding someone who can help me be more confident when even an alto lesson goes too high 😢
I hear you-finding the right guidance can be tough, especially when lessons push past your comfort zone. Start by working within your natural range (even if it feels low) and build confidence there. In theory should this whole thing be sung in mixed voice? Because I have the hardest time not switching around C5.
That seems to be the case.
The first one is kind of a problem for me. I don't know why.... The lips practice 😢
It's a hard one! Keep practicing though.
It would have been nice, if we could hear commentators singing voice too. So that we could feel stinging and growing together
Great suggestion, thank you!
