What's inside my DIY Sendak dupe art roll 😍

- This has been one of my favorite projects to create - and if you want the sewing pattern I'll add it as a pinned comment when it goes up on my online shop!
It is the PERFECT answer to my art wrap needs. It fits in OS MUCH, that I can take just this art wrap with me out and about...
So I thought I would share with you what is inside it! Excited? I am!

I just bought the pattern and can’t wait to start making it. I’ll be altering it to fit my favorite paint pallet. Now, fabric decisions are hard!!
Your excitement for your creation was bubbling over. I enjoyed spending a bit of time with you looking at this. And yes I stroke my art supplies. Today I found a silk covered box I’d made long ago and filled with super fine bamboo writing paper. I couldn’t quit touching and loving on it like a long lost friend.

Yay, thanks Anita! 😘 I took yesterday 'off' and spent the day rearranging my supplies inside by 'color value' 👀 and then did so much drawing! Loving using it! 😘❤️🎨
What a terrific art wrap! That inner fabric is to die for! I love to rearrange my supplies for travel set ups, even though I rarely go anywhere!😂
Thank you so much! The inner fabric is a Liberty ripstop nylon, which I was lucky enough to buy on offer. I have quite a bit left and might make myself an 'art bag' lined with it! 😍 And I absolutely get where you're coming from - there is so much joy to be had in sorting through and rearranging supplies! 😘

Beautiful! I've been eyeing the sendak too, but it's a ridiculous price. I love how you customized it to your exact specs :)
Thanks Ann! 😘 I do understand 'why' they've priced it so high - make it more of a 'status' object in a way - but I made this version for about €15, not including my time, and even 'paying' myself a conservative €10 per hour, it would still have only been €65 total! 😉
I've been thinking about making my own for so long, the originals are so expensive in Australia, and I can sew...
Ooooh, definitely make your own then, it's worth it to have it fully customized to your needs! I love both of mine (one for art supplies, one for sewing tools) and wouldn't be without them now! 😘

It is very original that's for sure😍 but for the people that cannot sew this might be an option.
If you don't want to put a mini pallet in your roll you could always use that spot to hide an emergency chocolate bar hehe 😊

I recently sewed my own pen case/pouch as well and I’m in love with it too!! Being able to design exactly what you want makes the item even better 🤩
Oh briliant! It does make such a difference doesn't it, having something made custom for your needs. I've already started planning a simpler wrap for just the tombows, as I have found myself desperately trying to cram in all the things to this version, which is NOT what it was designed for. 🤣

Thanks Nell! I was admittedly very torn about using it, in case it didn’t work out and I ‘wasted’ the Liberty fabric, but I think it’s also why I love it as much as I do. Xx

This is a beautiful wrap! I have been brainstorming to sew a wrap for myself, as well, but haven't gotten as far as you have! I may have to try out your pattern! I need something with sections/pockets more geared towards sketching and watercolor for travel. But I absolutely love this, and I could always customize your pattern for what I need. Thanks so much for sharing! I really enjoyed admiring this and admiring how well you created this for yourself. I am really into DIYing expensive things...and as we all know, the Sendak wrap is EXPENSIVE!!! 😂 And I could NEVER justify paying that much for a wrap, but I can definitely justify purchasing your pattern, pulling some fabric from my fabric stash and sewing one up!
What a great work did you do with making this penroll. Beautiful. I’m also liking the official one. But with the price, shipping to the Netherlands and imports I keep it at my beloved Kipling pencil etuis
Thank you, it is definitely something I will love for a long time. 😍 I understand completely - when I checked the price of the original on Jackson's earlier it was over £170! Throw on the shipping and customs and it's not even sensible. I made the version for approx €15 not including my time. 😎

Absolutely beautiful, and agree with everyone’s comments regarding the internal fabric. But, I have to ask - what is that narrow brown leather-covered item on the right that you remove/put back in. I’m intrigued (did I miss something?)?
Hi Jane! That long slim leather covered item is my Peg and Awl Tilda palette! I have a video showing the process I went through to set it up, but it’s the perfect narrow palette for this! 😍
I like the pocket you made best it is easy to get into but I do love my Sendak roll.
Yeah, I almost didn't add the zippered pocket but changed my mind at the last. Really glad I did. 😎 The Sendak is gorgeous, but I honestly cannot justify the cost of it, when I am able to make something similar for myself. 😘
Yay! U finally made it! The first time we ever talked was about making one. I think I said I wanted a leather one. That was a long time ago lol. It looks so good! Yes I want a pattern… of course 😉. Saves me the hassle of doing one lol
Ha ha, you remember! Yes, I did have a leather one I picked up from Etsy and I disliked how little it ‘rolled’ but I think if it was made from a less rigid leather - interfaced lamb nappa perhaps? - then it would work well. I have plenty of the later as remnants in a box. So perhaps I’ll sew one up (when the book is done) and see how it fairs! 😍
@@eviedivadoodles I do! Ah yes I never thought of that. Oooo nappa is yum! All the leather scraps I have r thicker so wouldn’t work. Yes when u aren’t stressed to the gills!
I made one a few months ago, the dimensions on their website helped alot. 😂

I did the same thing with a board with magnets that fits in the back of my sketchbook to hold my paints and watercup I love it and it cost me less than £10 instead of nearly £60 if I had bought it on Etsy

This is awesome. I really like this you are very creative, and I love to see how people with this kind of a talent can customise things for themselves. I’d love to see you create a Art bag for yourself to reckon that would be very interesting.
Thanks Jess! And an art bag is on my list of projects! I spent HOURS last weekend when I should have been sleeping looking for the ‘perfect’ bag for art supplies, and of course nothing is perfect in my eyes, so there is a realistic chance that I will make one in May when the book is done, I can then test it over the whole summer! 😍
@@eviedivadoodles I watch Linda from beginners mind art mind on RUclips and she uses a tool bag for her art supplies which has a big empty area in the middle, but around the outside has lots of little pockets for bits and pieces, although it’s only a carry bag it does everything I need to, and very expensive on Amazon I would definitely like one that could close up, but this was definitely a happy alternative for those of us that aren’t quite as creative as you. Can’t wait to see what you come up with for a night bag.
Love your art wrap! 🤩 It is so beautiful and obviously so much better than the original, since you got personalized pocket sizes and everything! I once sewed a very basic pencil roll, but I should actually make one like yours with zipper pocket and everything!
Ah, thank you so much! 😍 It's funny because I had decided not to add a zippered pocket originally, but then at the last I changed my mind and threw one on. The pocket section didn't even have a 'pattern piece' - I just measured up the short edge and concocted one! 🤣

Coffee YES coffee!! Ha! Hope your weekend has been good. It's gotten unusually cold here in the desert and windy and rainy. Some snow on the very tops of the mountains that I can see from our house - The Superstitions. Ohh! I know this is crazy but I got a new electric pencil sharpener! I think I mentioned that a friend gave me a BUNCH of assorted colored/wc pencils. Now I can sharpen them. Ok talk to you soon! Hugs❤@@eviedivadoodles
