It is only through his supporters that Trump can get what he wants, so he HAS to "show up for the people". He has no alternative. If he doesn't show up at this stage in the race, do you think he stands any chance of becoming president? He has important personal reasons for needing the presidency again. I don't think he's showing up "for the people". Besides, "what he went through", I'm sure was very frightning and reflection on what happened must be very sobering to him. The angular difference at the shooters position, between hitting his ear and hitting his head, was so small that he is, as he said himself, lucky to be alive. He said "I'm not supposed to be here" - but in retrospect, he didn't sustain an injury that will in any way affect his abilities, so there's no reason why he shouldn't "show up", and given its importance to him, of course he did.
If there was another attempt on his life, his confidence would be shattered, his attitude to speaking in public would change, and I would expect him quite likely not to show up - but let's hope that won't happen.
He loves show biz, that's for sure, oh' and money!!!
