A news report on France's controversial victory over Ireland in Paris that knocked the Irish out of the soccer World Cup. Thierry Henry clearly handles the ball twice.
Anyone who thinks this isnt a big deal doesnt realise the heart break this has caused the Irish. We have a great team and could have gone far in the cup. Most of our players will be gone by the time the next one comes around. We've been waiting 20 years to be this good again. Devastating, it really is.
just because life is unfair doesn't mean we should accept injustices of course a replay won't happen, but it's still important to stand up for whats right.
23 years on from Maradona's "Hand of God" goal and we've come no further. Video replays have to be introduced, they take seconds and prevent cheating and huge rows like the one Henry has caused.
Fifa's made corruption ! HAND OF FIFA. The sponsoring economic benefits of France was much more important than Ireland, giving $ 5 million was just nothing for fifa. " That's how corruption works."
i dont think henry should be banned from participating in the world cup, because after all it wasnt his fault, the ball just went to his hand and he coudnt do nothing to stop. He self declared afterwards that he said the referi that it was an illlegal goal. Im sorry for ireland though, they are a great team
What are you talking about? Ireland got to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 1990 and only went out after losing 1-0 to Italy. A staggering achievement for a country our size.
@ mightyreds07 I accidentally removed your comment, you said: "For the life of me I cannot understand why they refuse to use replay technology in football. I live in the states and in our football if anything like this happens the refs watch a slow motion replay and make their decision from there. We have the technology to prevent these things, its ridiculous that its not put to good use. Hold your head up Ireland you played an AMAZING game with alot of heart. " Thanks for commenting.
I'm French and not a soccer fan but..common, just look up on our French News before criticizing us.. More than 79% people voted online to say we don't deserve to go at the cup. Today most of French are mad & can't feel proud.. we are perfectly aware it'll stick badly to our image.. Fifa decided.. not French people in front of their tv.
I understood exactly what you said and I don't think it's totally useless. If Mexico beat France it will go some way to knocking them out of a tournament they don't deserve to be in. Henry and his hand were the main culprits, FIFA and the French FA handled the post-match situation appallingly badly. I blame them all.
Only legends can do these things...a normal footballer will never ever think of doing this at that particular moment...he'll surely let fly away the ball...
He WAS one of the classiest players in the game. He's not the player he was Arsenal and that Henry would have used his skill not his hand to get through.
@Curtis Barnes People did get on Suarez's back about biting, especially after the first time. 1. Maybe 2. Calling us British is kind of offensive, we spent hundreds of year trying to separate from them. And no amount of media hype can overestimate the unfairness of this decision. Henry clearly handled it twice and won the match from it.
There would have NEVER been a replay no matter which side did it. Too bad for the Irish, and also Henry who will forever be remembered for this dirty job.
@acsalp I remember the foul by Schumacher on Battiston, I was watching it live when I was a kid. While it was a horrible incident, it didn't actually cost France the game directly whereas Herny's handball did cost Ireland the game and the chance to play at this summer's World Cup. Most of the Irish players will never play in a World Cup again as they will be too old when the next one comes around.
The careers of footballers are short, we are talking about players who because of Henry's handball will NEVER play in a World Cup again. Robbie Keane, Damien Duff, Richard Dunne, Kevin Kilbane and manager Trapattoni will not be around in 2014 and that is very sad. That is why there should be video evidence, every other sport has it.
i think people do everything to win, not only in soccer, and Maradona the best for everything, and you guys can saw it on that game, the most 2 famous goals were in that game, and i really like the 2nd goal!
Believe it or not there are people in this world who never cheat and find those who do offensive. Some people have standards, others here clearly don't.
The Oxford Dictionary definition of cheating is; 1. To act dishonestly or unfairly to gain an advantage (Henry Verdict: GUILTY!) 2. To deprive someone of something by dishonest or unfair means (Henry Verdict: GUILTY!) In every way, Henry is a cheat and it IS NOT harsh to say so. It is the correct definition of who and what he is.
England's Terry Butcher asked Maradona after the game if it was handball and Maradona said it was a header. Butcher said he'd have killed him if he'd said handball.
Henry should be booed every time he touches the ball in South Africa as he doesn't deserve to be there. If Ireland don't get justice now, give it to them when France go to the World Cup.
guys seriously...Henry is one of the fairest players out there...he makes football what it is today...I admit it was a handball, but still...these things happen. I'm sry for the Ireland fans but still, life goes on
I am french but I wasn't happy after this football match because I felt bad for Ireland 🇮🇪. Then, I thought so France 🇫🇷 was done a bad tournement in South Africa. Finally, I was happy when Spain 🇪🇦 have won this world cup in 2010 and Raymond Domenech ( old France 🇫🇷 head coach for 2010 world cup) has fired after this ship world cup. We have done in South Africa 🇿🇦,10 years ago. What a shame for my country ( to have cheat)!!!😔😔😔👎👎👎 I'll never forget this childhood team has felt bad for a moment until 2013 for a play-off games against Ukraine 🇺🇦.
@tubetime3 When Maradona was asked if he handled the ball for Argentina's goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, he said it was not his hand but "the hand of God." Every time there's an incident like this, comparisons are made.
..then I don't mentioned him in "geniuses" cos he doesn't played so much for national team cos he was born in the Roberto Baggio era,but too Zola was a great player, another authentic wizard,..I like these kind of players
Referee was too far away from the incident and too many players in front of him. Perfect example for video replay. Shame on you mr henry, this is what you will be remembered for by millions of people.
Henri's defenders would be the first to call an Irish player a cheat if they'd handled our goal. The result suits them and they are too selfish to see how wrong it is.
I've read polls that 79% of French people aren't happy to qualify for the World Cup like that, but there are also a lot of excuses and justifications being made for Henry on here by French people, so I'm not so sure.
..to make an example: I don't quoted him cos he had not much long career cos he had "weak knees" and often injured , but the quintessence of the pure finisher was Paolo Rossi (World Champion 1982 and mate of Platini in Juve),.. he could stay 80 minutes without touching a ball but at the first little opportunity he "bited" and scored , was like a sort of cobra,...this here we mean for "pure finisher "
And goalkeeper Shay Given's hand was a whisker away from saving it. They should never have assumed that the ref had seen it, no matter how obvious it was.
The way FIFA President Sepp Blatter openly laughed at Ireland at a press conference is beyond belief. This is the governing body of the sport making fun of a team that were cheated out of their World Cup place. FIFA Fair Play doesn't exist anymore and it never existed in the first place.
It would be unthinkable to leave France out of the world cup. Monsieur Platini would get bored to death having to travel all the way down there, without watching his homeboys!!!
I agree with you to a certain point, i believe the first handball was an accident, but not the second!! He knew what he was doin, and not only should he hang his head in shame and request a replay, he shouldnt be allowed kick a ball at the world cup to show him what its going to be like for the Irish players!
The ref didn't see it, so wouldn't have thought it was handball and Henry was hardly going to talk himself out of a World Cup place. It's not a shame for Henry, it's a shame for Ireland. Feel sorry for them. It's 5 years until the next World Cup, many of these players will be too old to play by then.
Why so many judges Thierry Henry did not realize you think he is one of the best players in the world he is known for its big awards because it one-handed judge, this is ridiculous.
Anyone who thinks this isnt a big deal doesnt realise the heart break this has caused the Irish. We have a great team and could have gone far in the cup. Most of our players will be gone by the time the next one comes around. We've been waiting 20 years to be this good again.
Devastating, it really is.
its the fuckign same for everybody. DOnt understand? Ofc we do evryone gets it.
14 years later Still waiting
Even though it's not 100% standardized, I'm glad we have VAR today. So that injustices like this never happen again in football
haha good one.
Dear Lord. He didn't just handle the ball, he caressed it, stroked it, massaged it and loved it. How could the ref not have seen this?
Thanks for making my clip one of your favourites.
Henry is a cheat
I agree he is a cheat
I agree too he is a cheat and a coward guy.
At least maradonas hand of god was in a World Cup semi this was a qualifier against us like we're shit and you had to cheat, it's just cowardly
No its like marafmdona
This is what makes us Irish though. It was clear that it wasn't a goal though, anyone would've seen that, even Thierry.
just because life is unfair
doesn't mean we should accept injustices
of course a replay won't happen, but it's still important to stand up for whats right.
Crazy that this commentator probably has a wife and kids, are you still alive?
The King's Hand.
The hand of frog 🐸
23 years on from Maradona's "Hand of God" goal and we've come no further. Video replays have to be introduced, they take seconds and prevent cheating and huge rows like the one Henry has caused.
It’s here, how do you feel about VAR?
I wonder if Thierry Henry is still allowed in Ireland again? 😂
"ireland is furious" she said
we still love you man!
This is the same guy complaining about Portugal winning the Euro cup. Maybe he should look in a mirror.
Fifa's made corruption !
HAND OF FIFA.
The sponsoring economic benefits of France was much more important than Ireland, giving $ 5 million was just nothing for fifa. " That's how corruption works."
You're absolutely right.
Fantastic Basketball Skillz shown here by Henry!!!
if you're gonna tell the ref afterwards, why use your hand in the first place?
It was most likely just a reflex, maybe he didn't mean to do it.
Cpt STEEZ that’s even more of a reson to tell the ref
@@vika0194 Which is...why he told the ref
ZPSBestProfileName After the decision and days after the game when EVERYONE had already seen it. And it was clearly deliberate.
@@KingThiazzi how TF he didn't mean it. He desperately trying to get a goal and he cheated. That referees should be band for life.
Henry's a cheat!
Merci beacoup.
i dont think henry should be banned from participating in the world cup, because after all it wasnt his fault, the ball just went to his hand and he coudnt do nothing to stop. He self declared afterwards that he said the referi that it was an illlegal goal.

He's saving that for South Africa.

@ascde6 do you think you will beat south africa and slip into the last 16?
also do you blame domenech or the players for the results?
Good to know, thanks.
I'm French and not a soccer fan but..common, just look up on our French News before criticizing us.. More than 79% people voted online to say we don't deserve to go at the cup. It was a typing error, I meant HAND OF DOG! haha
It's the golden rule...he who has the gold, rules.
Only legends can do these things...a normal footballer will never ever think of doing this at that particular moment...he'll surely let fly away the ball...
Only retards would call a cheat a legend
Yep, the old "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" idea.
He WAS one of the classiest players in the game. He's not the player he was Arsenal and that Henry would have used his skill not his hand to get through.
Thank you, Mr Hoff, I knew I liked you.
@Curtis Barnes
People did get on Suarez's back about biting, especially after the first time.
1. Maybe
2. Calling us British is kind of offensive, we spent hundreds of year trying to separate from them.

bring on a replay ireland deserve it!
I'm from north but I've read that in Florence town people is SIMPLY furious for this ,...w the fair play!!!
Irlande demanded Var back in 2009
Till 2018 they started using it😂
I don't care how they go, just that they do.
he felt bad about it, just look at him, and he even told the ref.
yes, you are right !
Why is this guy a role model to people around the world?
There would have NEVER been a replay no matter which side did it.
Too bad for the Irish, and also Henry who will forever be remembered for this dirty job.
It's my worth memories of my life
that was nice....
He's a hand model now!
It is after the goal has been scored and before the kick-off to restart the match happens. Once the match restarts, it is too late.
That should be the Ireland team's song for the World Cup, he he.
The quickest way to lose a game is to underestimate your opponent. France are an aging, vulnerable side.
hand of the beast
@acsalp I remember the foul by Schumacher on Battiston, I was watching it live when I was a kid. i almost cried
You're half-Irish, that still makes you a FULL TRAITOR!
the country/team that eliminates France in this world cup will be its hero
The moral of the story is: Take your chances when they come or be punished later.
hand of god

I agree. In the end, it's the referee and his assistants to make the final call. In this case, Ireland were just unlucky.
The problem is the linesman, he never flagged for an obvious offside and allowed the free kick to be taken.
i think people do everything to win, not only in soccer, and Maradona the best for everything, and you guys can saw it on that game, the most 2 famous goals were in that game, and i really like the 2nd goal!

LIVE IS LIVE !
Smile from GEORGIA .....
Great stuff and boo Henry every time he touches the ball and chant "Ireland, Ireland."
He he, very true.
at least the secound contact was on purpose. there is no doubt. greetings from Germany. We support you, Ireland

Irish fans protested outside the French embassy in Dublin on Saturday also. A lot of people are angry about what Henry did.
Ireland are not asking for a rematch, they are demanding it and if FIFA refuse to give it, they should sue the corrupt bastards. This ain't over yet!
@tubetime3 When Maradona was asked if he handled the ball for Argentina's goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, he said it was not his hand but "the hand of God." Every time there's an incident like this, comparisons are made.
It's easy for you to say that, your team is at the World Cup and don't deserve to be. There is nothing more important than justice.
It is not moaning, it is trying to correct an injustice, any other country would do the same.
At least he told the ref
Right. Ireland have been stitched-up by a combination of Henry, the French FA, UEFA and FIFA.
I have to say: what a fucking killer this Henry!! one guy against a whole nation and guess who win?
..then I don't mentioned him in "geniuses" cos he doesn't played so much for national team cos he was born in the Roberto Baggio era,but too Zola was a great player, another authentic wizard,..I like these kind of players
@MrJoeMother You're not the only person reading this and that's who I was explaining it for.
ahh thanks for clearing that up.

next time I see a FAIR PLAY ad by FIFA I will urinate on it!!!!
it's about time soccer gets with the times.
We've never had any luck, we built the Titanic don't forget!
i'm french. We are ashamed and we want play again.
..to make an example: I don't quoted him cos he had not much long career cos he had "weak knees" and often injured , but the quintessence of the pure finisher was Paolo Rossi (World Champion 1982 and mate of Platini in Juve),.. he could stay 80 minutes without touching a ball but at the first little opportunity he "bited" and scored , was like a sort of cobra,...this here we mean for "pure finisher "

Not Only Was It a Handball But The Two Of Them Wer OFFSIDE!!!!!
Former Ireland manager Mick McCarthy says Fifa stands for "Forget Irish Football Altogether."
He he, I never thought I'd make an Internet star of Katie Derham uploading this clip. She is nice but, sadly, I believe she's married.
well for your information, Herny told the press just AFTER the handball match that he DID NOT let anything know DURING the game...
@Delic0usz So you are saying its okay to cheat as long as you get away with it?
