- In this video, it shows dry, offshore winds battering my new rock garden out front this afternoon. Plants here consists of 3 queen palms and a few cordylines and a sago palm at the end of the driveway. My poor plants... Well, wind does make trees and plants stronger to a certain extent right? It's also a good thing I installed tree straps to the palms for extra stability and support. Footage taken from my place in San Jose, CA. (Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2024)
*Did you know? Exposure to wind can encourage plants to develop stronger stems and root systems. This is a phenomenon known as thigmomorphogenesis, where mechanical stimulation promotes growth changes that enhance structural integrity. Wind also helps improve air circulation around plants, reducing humidity and the risk of fungal diseases. Good airflow can certainly also help with the drying of wet foliage, further minimizing disease risk. By promoting the establishment of various plant species in different locations, wind contributes to greater biodiversity in ecosystems.
