Very true ! I made that mistake!!
Hi Coach Anthony, thank you so much for taking the time to put this video together. I know this is the basics of boxing, but a house isn’t built by starting with the doors and roof-it’s all about strong foundations. The way you break down footwork, especially the imaginary line from toe to heel, has really helped me solidify areas where I was struggling. I have cerebral palsy, so movement doesn’t always come naturally to me, but I’m teaching myself boxing at home for fitness and fun. Your explanation has made a huge difference, especially with my balance and general movement. Really appreciate the knowledge you share-this is helping me a lot, and I’m looking forward to learning more!
Glad I can help
Been watch coach Ant a year after getting into boxing. Have to say haven’t learned more from any other trainer or videos than these right here. He the truth

Coach Anthony, your recent video on improving Your footwork resonated with me. In my training, I’ve been delving into the biomechanics of striking, emphasizing kinetic chain sequencing to maximize power. At 61 years old and 5'8", this approach has been transformative. Have you incorporated these concepts into your coaching? I'd appreciate your insights.

AMAZING VIDEO.
Sorry in advance if you do not understand my English:
In my country boxing gyms are very few and footwork aspect is very weak so I depend on youtube for knowledge.
I would appreciate if you show more elaborated video on the right tempo of footwork. When to be bouncy and when to calm down, with examples and maybe fighters doing it with you? I find myself either doing it too much or just stay planted.
@@threeayes1952 I kind of explain it in the end of the video but in the future I will make more in this topic
@@CoachAnthonyBoxingI think some of us will still need more explanation. Specifically I as a muay thai fighter who wants to do boxing on the side. Rhythm and footwork outside the range is very awkward for me and I find myself planted and easy for boxers to pressure me.
Good point about the bounce. I see it as staying in my own rhythm as a way to blend my offense and defense without looking like a nervous rabbit. Like every fundamental in boxing, you have to understand when to use it.

I learned 3 versions of the pendulum step!! It confuses me! Different boxing coaches have different terminology! More or less!! Also, coaches from other countries!! Like when you mention Russia ! You are correct!! In your videos, 100 %.
Thank you Coach I have a quick question I look at my opponents chest when I’m sparring but most people seem to look at the face should I be looking at the chest or should I be making eye contact
Absolutely correct . And as a coach for over 15 years now us coaches need to pull the reigns back too . We all want
To see you guys advance and sometimes we move things ahead too fast before the fundamental things are truly owned . Haha pendulum step ? I still call that what it is . Rhythm
💯 You're right. We need to respect the fundamentals and build from there.
Nobody ever felt comfortable when they first started boxing … Confidence comes whith practise ☝🏼
Excellent video. Thanks.
To answer your question, in my view, you were doing the pendulum step! And quite right about doing it as a training exercise for sets, say, of 3 minutes solid instead of skipping. It's great for conditioning and is also boxing-specific. Furthermore, agree with you that the pendulum step should only be used selectively when sparring, etc, unless of course, one has the skillset, training, background and stamina of a Bivol... It's not to be used all the time.
@@christophereverest4547 I appreciate the comment and input!

Feet do all the work, hands get all the credit
@@863pilot Haha 🥊🥊
Pendulum step is more of a style than a move (Usyk, Loma, Bivol). Its a constant bounce that gets you in and out of range while at the same time disguising punches and fients.
Usually not something for flat footed fighters who need to be settled to get offense off (Maidana) but a rare example of a flat flat footed guy would be Pacquiao. This style is also used in arts that use a lot of kicking (taekwondo) again for its masking benifits
If you can mask a kick with it imagine what it can do for your punches.
Good footwork is best defensive
Definitely one of the lines of defense 💯
btw, I'm no boxer but i'm a martial artist, I just want to suggest that you can get a lot of fast speed immediate power from a grounded heel if know how to do it and also movements, little movements can be pretty fast as well, you just have to learn a different mechanics that uses achille tendon and weight balance from the hips just a little bit differently, it could be economic too, someone got it naturally and they usually develop a lot of power from it. teaching it on purpouse from scratch in boxing could be a waste of time anyway, just pay attention to whom use it as a natural mean to get power and movement from it. cheers

Footwork and dancing go hand in hand
@@adventuresandvacations4947 💯💯
Pendulum, is just Russian/Eastern European footwork/style. Lomo, Usyk, and Bivol are great examples of this. They each do it a bit differently. A primary use for the Pendulum is to mentally ware out your opponent, in addition to creating angles and punching power.

I'd rather watch bruce lee he's much more advanced
Good point!! I need to go study him next. Thanks
just bouncing ain't no pendolum step at all, you should be able to incorporate offense and defense with proper timing like russian do, they can shoot taking off or landing... if you manage distance well it's not easy to predict or counter
@@MassimilianoConcas-d2g I can the way I was bouncing I just didn’t punch in this video

That’s the Pendulum step right-on Coach! but like u mentioned. you’ve been using that move, you were just referring to it as a “Shuffle” or “Sliding” in and out of range! 💯🫡🧠🥊
