    I went to a rugby school CBHS in New Zealand and we had compulsory Haka practice everyone knows the haka and its importance to school heritage and respect for our indigenous people. It’s unreal being part of a 1500 man haka. Unity and brotherhood.

    The way I was told when I was there to relate to us in the US, their School's Haka is like our high school's or university's Fight Song. So these two school's hakas would be equivalent to the fight song for UCLA, or Notre Dame, or Alabama or Oklahoma. Except this rivalry would be on the Michigan vs. Ohio level. It's that big, so when the kids show up for the Haka, they go all out.
    Oh.. and their "college" = our high school. Our college/university = university. That should clear it up for you. So these are high schoolers.

    • @violetkumarina3699
      @violetkumarina3699 Год назад

      NZ High Schools and Colleges have the same status, all the students range from 13 yrs - 18yrs.
      University is after High School / College. In NZ , anyways. That's how we rolls in Aotearoa, NZ.

    These guys will be aged between 13-19 high school college and secondary school in New Zealand is all the same level. This type of haka is called a "wero" meaning " a challenge" . So when sports teams do a haka / wero to open a game each team is actually laying a challenge to their opponents

  • @kaweramNZL

    So in Nz Colleges start from 11years to 17-18, highschools start from 13 to 17-18.
    But every school have their own haka and uniform that represents not only the but also their fellow senors. And the guy in the middle is the #1 person in the whole kura. So its a huge privilege to be him.

The only name for what you call college in America is universities which because NZ is quite small and only have a few universities they just have a club rugby team in their city. For example in my city, there is Otago university and they play against all of the other rugby clubs in the city not against other universities.

    ... Why is an american watching the King's College rugby Haka?
    The Haka is a traditional war dance, developed for intimidation, which was revived for sports in the 70s.
    These schools are 'elite' schools where prominent families send their kids in New Zealand. But not overly prestigious by USA standards.

      You don't know shit. The All Blacks have been doing the Haka for over a hundred years. As for your extremely insensitive comment about the lack of prestige of our colleges compared to the USA don't even go there. Nobody wants to be compared to the modern shit fest that the USA has become. You asked for it you got it. Have a nice day.
