Larry!!!! Ah, I watched this. I was 16. Glued to the tv while John was down the highway from me. Always so proud of sharing that same hometown. His voice is about all that’s changed! I barely recognized it! John, this is when the teens lost their minds for you!! Good! Good good times!! Much love
GREAT era for old school REAL R n R with the old school JOHN COUGAR and HIS band! Grew up on that self titled LP and the following "Nothing Matters and What IF it DID" as a fellow Midwestern "kid", and I STILL love those albums. It's great to actually be able to go BACK in time and SEE THIS classic footage of the young John and his band from THEN....SMH with Delight 😏 TY for this footage , as I'd a LOVED ta see it as a kid back when but?... Living OUT in the County with basic TV ONLY, NO cable available BACK then etc...I think you get the picture lol. 😎. "SUGAR MARIE, take me to CHINATOWN!".....😏🤘🔥🤘
By his own admission, he was completely obnoxious to the point where he had to give up drinking so he wouldn't get the living shit beat out of him anymore.
John Mellencamp was the same young man back then as the older man he is today. He has always been as real and genuine as they come, and I so appreciate him for that. Back in the early-80s, I thought he was an asshole, but now I see him for the good, real, honest man he always has been. Good for him.
A decade before he recorded Pop Singer he was keeping it real. Cool to see a celebrity that success didn't destroy.
Yes, this brings back great memorie's!!! Dick Clark was great!!! John Mellancamp is a great singer, love his 🎶🎶🎶 music!!!!!
He's a great writer as well.

By his own admission, he was completely obnoxious to the point where he had to give up drinking so he wouldn't get the living shit beat out of him anymore.

Great no BS guy ❤️💙
If John Boy from the Waltons started a rock n roll band. Good stuff, so many great songs!
John Cougar, Ha Ha , was always a mean LITTLE MAN !!!!!!!
John is really cute here. I love his accent too.
Down to Earth guy 😊
Dick Clark very professional
Awesome!!❤
Of course, the most interesting guy in the band is the accordion player.
If that's who I think it is he got in trouble for molesting kids...accordian player
@@mikeivey8169 Yep....quite the history. I heard he got caught on a bus lugging child porn.
I bet you had a blast with him!
I saw him open for Heart a year later,
the stand up bass was gone.
Dick Clark was the coolest cat around
I love you John! Rose from ind/ my.
Indiana accent..so prevelant..awe
That accent can be heard south all the way up 65N to Southside of indy and beyond...its weird because some have it and some don't as much.
We don’t have an accent. You do!
It's a rural or country accent. Small town.
He really was & is down to earth. He's definitely not a hayseed dumbass at all, very smart.
What is a "hayseed dumbass" ?
Is being a "hayseed" an automatic dumbass or are hayseeds that are dumbasses, just unique in some way ?
Sick Clark was the BEST $ so NATURAL...
Dick Clark is like that guy that talks to the people on that TV court show, if you lose your case ,he tries to humiliate you even more
You mean he didn't get pissed off butthurt and leave the stage?
Whats up with the southern accent? He was 26/27 yrs old?
About 30 years ago, did the whole Mellencamp thing; Went to Seymour. Dropped a card off in his mailbox in Bloomington Typical fan shit.
But didn't he date Meg Ryan?
John born in zinc. Grew up in ky.
Are you speaking about Mellencamp? He was born and grew up in Seymour, Indiana. Has lived part time in Bloomington on Monroe Lake for decades.

Got married in Louisville played clubs there but didn’t live there
He never quit smokin ciggs duh....
LITTLE JOHN RETIRE, YOUR NASTY TO YOUR FANS,FORGOT WERE YOU CAME FROM RETIRE
Hillbillies is right. Music not really for the simple man, but the simple minded man
