Why is Ally always so right about this stuff? Because the first time I was like "huh I might be gay" is watching Atlantis and seeing all those pretty women, and going "I don't want to be them, and maybe not want to be friends with them, but they seem pretty and nice". Similarly, when I re-watched Mulan for like the 80th time as a teenager, I had a moment of "I feel like a guy sometimes and I want to dress like a guy and not be a girl" and that's how I realized I'm gender fluid.
Beardsley says the most enlightening things sometimes, like when he talked about masculine fertile that one time and now the root. I need to write this down.
my friend! i completely agree with the premise of your comment but i must tell/remind you that ally exclusively uses the pronouns they/them/theirs. not trying to be pushy/condescending, sorry if it comes off that way
Idk if root is a more widespread term than I think it is, but in the movie "But I'm a Cheerleader" (which Ally referenced in I think a CoC adventuring party and I watched), the conversion camp that the main character goes to forces each gay kid to explain their "root," which is exactly what Ally explained it as. I really can't tell if they're intentionally referencing the movie or if the movie is drawing from queer culture in the first place lmao
