Thank you for this information. I really like these cages but I don't like how they handle their company. And that's a big part of how I make my decision making in spending a lot of money. I know we can find a better cage for my buns elsewhere so maybe I just won't go through the trouble of dealing with KW cages, it sounds stressful. Thank you for looking out for us. That's really kind of you. Your buns are looking better than ever.
I agree with why they don't just do vinyl in all of the cages at the same price. Also, I would never order from a company that adds charges without letting you know first! That is fraudulent!
Thanks for your honest and fair review. For the price and aggravation, I admit I'd hire someone or do it myself and build the cages that are similar in size and two story design instead of overpaying for simple changes and shipping...and enduring stress from an unprofessional practices or lack of response. I can't believe they were that uninformed to know that a youtube review by a highly respected rabbitry could result in either more business...or less. They just lost a lot of orders for cages by bad customer service practices.
I know this is such an old video now, but I so appreciate it! We have been free roaming our bunnies for 10 years now. We have two new lops now that are around one year old and it has just been such a different experience to my other bunnies in the past. We are really struggling to find an enclosed area that can. be together but also separated (they like their own space at night but snuggle all day). This video is extremely helpful in deciding which we want to go with! Thank you!
We have had several different cage set-ups for our three bunnies and the KW Cages Bunny Villa has been the best! How unfortunate that they mistreat their customers... We ordered ours without this carpet on the top floor but I never thought to ask for vinal. I would have been equally as disappointed if I had. Hopefully, they will get the message and work with you. Your videos are so helpful and they brighten my day every time I see one!
I got the two story cage and I got lucky on the shipping only being $50 and the customization fee was $35 when I bought mine back in may but it was still nearly $400 for the cage and even though I requested my cage by a particular date and even called them to confirm they lied to me about the shipping time and didn't send the cage by the date they promised to and instead shipped it on the day I requested it to be in by and treated me like I was the insane one on the phone I was really upset because my bun had to live in the bathroom for nearly a week because of their mistake luckily I have a big bathroom and he had space to run around but it was less than ideal
I work at Storey publishing and am currently working on Rabbit book from a renowned rabbit author, he recommends Bass Equipment, KW cages, and FarmTek. I am looking to buy cages myself right now. Thanks for this great video.
I enjoyed your review very much. The customer service as you described would be a real turnoff . I use the Living World cages and my bunnies seem to be very happy in them and I like them also. I find them tricky to put together without help but once they're assembled, they're great.
I buy a roll of vinyl flooring at the hardware store for $20.00. I then use a 4' x 4' x 4' xpen. The last xpens I bought, I ordered on Amazon. Got the same $100.00 pet store, high quality xpens for $30.00 each. If you have an athletic, jumper, you can get xpen lids, or use a sheet and clothes pins and fashion your own lid. Naturally, this is a good option for those that don't need to take advantage of the vertical space, due to number of rabbits, or space restrictions. Also, using an xpen is significantly easier and cleaner for a rabbit that is tidy and has really solid litter habits. I've only ever owned three personal, adopted rabbits in my life, but I've fostered a couple dozen. A couple other benefits to the xpens are, ease of movement for cleaning. Ease of movement to take the rabbit to the pet sitter when you travel. And in my situation, ease of setup and tear down as rabbits entered and left my fostering situation. I don't have a referral for a cage that is similar to what you're looking to acquire or recommend.
I 100% agree with you. I purchased a custom 2 story bunny villa a year ago. When I purchased my cage, KW cages had a quote tab on their website where you could request a no obligation quote on a custom cage. They should bring this page back!If you are curious, I was charged an $85 customization fee(it was stated on the quote) for centered doors and for a 48" instead of 42" cage. BTW, the industrial carpet on the second floor is removable so hypothetically you could have installed the vinyl yourself.
Yes, pricing transparency would be a nice feature for sure! That is interesting about the carpet. I assumed it would be glued down, and I was also concerned about making the vinyl fit under/around the metal trim by floor hole. Thanks for that info. :)
Still waiting on my KW cages. After 5 days of calling and unable to get ahold of customer service, I finally spoke with someone who said their machine broke down and my order is going to take another week to process 🙄 my bunnies have been waiting too long! Ugh so annoyed.
Yes, of course! My husband and I were watching your video and we agreed with everything you stated. It just seems like they could care less if they keep customers or not and that's just extremely unethical. My husband is a disabled veteran and KW are based out of the San Diego where the Marine Corps base is located, they wouldn't even offer a slight military discount. After I asked if they honor any type of military discount.. (honestly, any little bit helps) The lady I spoke with replied with "we get that question a lot, but no we don't offer any military/discount on these cages".
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops Unfortunately, my husband suffers from PTSD and when he first interacted with a bunny, he said it relaxed him so much. I have 4 holland lops (I'm a new bunny mama as of last month) and he loves just watching them and laying on the floor with them, especially petting and kissing them. Just wanted to make it a point, how much I appreciate your informative videos! Although, I still have a lot to still learn, You've taught me so much! Keep them coming 🐰💛
I'm looking at buying a Critter Nation two story cage (model 162) on wheels. It's 6' high, 36" X 24". I saw it at a pet store ($300.00) but will buy it from Amazon b/c it's $50.00 less costly (@ $249.00 and free shipping), and I can use Ebates for an additional % off. The double doors on each level open the ENTIRE side of the cage up to have COMPLETE access to the inside of the cage, making cleaning, I would think, MUCH easier, as well as replacing items, such as hay in the litter pan, etc. My current cage is one level 36" X 24" but the door only opens up on the end and reaching in length wise is not as easy. (It does have a smaller side door but I'm not able to use it since I modified the cage with the puppy divider and use that to create a second level in the cage, and that hooks over where the side door opens) It was made for a dog, though, and I got it at Petsmart for around $60.00. Durable but not easy to work with. You sound very frustrated. I hope KW get's their act in gear and starts responding to their customers! Thanks for the info on the cages. I was actually looking for a cage like this after seeing another one of your videos where your cages are on wheels and I thought, "THAT'S what I need!" I also wondered if you had placed the vinyl on the floors yourself. The Critter Nation cage I'm looking at comes with plastic flat pans (actually those are very expensive to replace if you buy an additional one of those, at around $50.00!). So I'm wondering, with the vinyl, do you have a big mess with that? Does rabbit urine seep under those and do you have to clean both sides plus a floor or how does that work? Would it be less expensive to just buy the vinyl yourself and cut it to fit than to pay their $45.00 fee to have it placed in there? Thanks again! Great videos! :)
I have had that particular cage, but I found the Bunny Villa's carpeted ramp to be easier for the bunnies to use. Plus, the pans on the Critter Nation are very shallow and have little traction. I purchased metal pans from Bass Equipment to replace these and added vinyl secured with silicone around the edges. The Villas are still my preference, though they are costly. The vinyl in the BV cage is attached with a metal trim strip all around. It's easy to clean daily with vinegar and a paper towel or hose down a few times per year. I've had mine for almost two years now and still like them. Wish they were cheaper.
Hi,i am from the UK and I am currentley in the process of designing my own condo for my two 10 wk old bunnies.I'm going to use simple wired storage cubes to make two 3 tier condo's that I am going to link together in an L shape and make a pen also that I am going to attach to the sides of the condo's with cable ties as also with the condo's too,i will be makin my own levels and ramps for them and covering them levels with vinyal flooring,it is cheaper to make your own and can make them any size.I have a shop bourght cage atm but in future I will be making my own as shop bourght cage are noway near big enough. When my project is finished I will post pics :-).Loving all of your beautiful bunny videos so adorable until the pics bye for now from across the pond x
Thank you so much!! I am eventually getting a barn with a whole new bunny area/room. I love your cages and want to slowly add them. Now I have 36x36x24 cages we purchased that were handmade. Plus an outdoor area with individual exercise pens for my 11 rabbits. When it comes to the KW cages it’s as if the people designing them don’t have rabbits. Someone that did would never use carpet - it’s just disgusting. As I design my new bunny room can I ask your bunny barn dimensions? It looks pretty perfect to me.
I think it's 24x24' if I remember correctly. In hindsight, a bit larger would be nicer, but the cost is already astronomical and not something that selling bunnies can pay for in my lifetime. :)
KW may have a nice product, but their company ethics seem shifty at best. And to not even acknowledge the business you've given them is ridiculous. For my bun, I modified some of the large bunny cages from PetSmart. Much cheaper & very effective. I'm sorry for your experience with KW, thanks for the insight & info!
What do you think of the Homey cages? I clicked over and I see you approve of these cages! I just ordered the Homey cage and deworm pellets. Thank You!
I haven't heard anything but positive comments about Homey Pet cages. I think they're a great alternative to expensive KW Bunny Villas, but you might have to make some modifications to the flooring in the Homey cages.
I will watch your flooring info again. My Homey cage should arrive Jan 5, 2018, but may be delayed d/t winter weather. I got the one story top open rabbit cage on the expected date 1/5/2018, $129 from Amazon. I am pleased with the cage. It took me the better part of the evening to assemble it and LOTS of pictures back and forth to the company in Southen CA. I like how it rolls around. Without the top on it and lots of padding my lil girl hopped out of it and was running around the basement binkying. She is very clean about her cage. She did not think that I realized she needed a bigger cage:-) I used to be good at getting the rabbits to return to their cage when I kept them on the deck outside. I have them in the basement now and I do not remember how to get them back into the cage. As I'm writing this I remember that having them on a schedule was a key. BTW I think you're the one who adopted my garden club lady's granddaughter's male and female rabbits. We got to talking today while we were taking down our borough's Christmas decorations.
I was told that fleece is bad for rabbits, and I put fleece over the ramp in my rabbit’s cage. I stapled it on, but I’m not sure if it is safe for rabbits. The fleece has no “corner fleece”. I was wondering if it would be safe for my rabbit. Also, thank you for the informative cage review!!
I've never had problems with fleece, and most of my bunnies have had fleece pillows and mats in their cages for years. If they eat it, I would remove it and provide a different substrate such as cardboard or wood.
I have beautiful big wood cages with lots if room. They take up lots and room so I can only have 5 cages I would like to get something like this so I can stack them and get more bunnies but those are so expensive! I haven't found anything like them that aren't lots of money yet
Are there any ways to make the ramp holes bigger? I️ just wanted to know because I️ have rexes and I️ don’t know if they’d be able to fit through them to the different levels
I don't like how they do buisness. And how on their website they say affordable!! The price range is ridiculous. These are amazing cages but how much they are asking for it is just terrible. And also I am getting the double story bunny villa and it is $299.50 + $45 + $100-200 of s&h. It's very annoying they should charge an extra $45 to get vinal when the carpet at the top isn't even a good idea. It's impossible to clean! ☹️
They now have an option for vinyl instead of carpet on second floor for....$37... Im looking for a bunny cage like this but cannot spend this much $$,, any ideas??
If price is a considerable factor, then you may have to get creative and make your own cage. You can buy vinyl or other flooring and C&C mesh panels for the sides. Tons of ideas on Pinterest.
Heat is extremely difficult for bunnies to endure and can kill them if you don't provide shade, cool water, and something to help cool them. Indoors or even a basement or garage is usually much safer for them.
I think that's just for replacement carpeting when the original wears out (since it's gross to put carpeting in a rabbit cage - ha!). There's still no option to add vinyl without calling them or having them call you after your order to request more money. Grr. :(
yep. for the past week i NEVER knew when the cages shipped until a few days ago! and i am getting my Holland Lops this weekend on the 20th and it’s supposed to arrive on the 24th! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH does anyone know any short-term (not expensive) solution?
An exercise pen would work as a temporary cage solution AND be useful in the future too. Amazon sells them, and Petco sells both dog pens and small animal pens. 30" tall minimum is my suggestion.
That's what I have: a double on the bottom and a single on top. The weight of the single cage keeps it stacked, but I have bungee straps on it too, just in case. Another option is to buy a triple level cage and just remove the ramp to the top story and cover the opening with a ceramic tile or other heavy, flat cover (such as a large litter box).
Your the best. I am online with them right now. Your videos really helped me make my choice. Bob Bennett our rabbit author recommends KW too. I mentioned the issues you outlined and let them know I chose them based on your videos. $45 for the all vinyl ugh. The quality and design of these cages is making me go with them. I am feeling the pros outweigh the cons. Going ok so far, will keep you posted. Shipping is the next hurdle. I went for the triple. Thanks again.
Similar experiences with KW. Their customer service is beyond terrible. Unfortunately they aren't the only ones like that. There are other manufacturers, however their websites are trash, or you have to call to place an order, and some places won't even ship cages at all. KW is also by far the most expensive, but to be fair, almost all decent cages are overpriced. I don't think it's the manufacturers though, honestly I think it's the wire manufacturers that are the issue.
You do have legal outlets for this situation. Also, why do you continue to send business to this company? I'm sorry you went through this. Do not allow this company take advantage of other people.
I refer customers to them because I believe they have a superior product - that's the only reason. That's why I mentioned in the video that I would love to recommend a different cage/company if I discover an equally superb product. I'm hoping other cage companies begin to excel in the pet rabbit cage market and try making something similar.
what are the advantages of having a two story cage? the footprint is a little smaller than the regular cage i have them in now, so is the double story worth it?
If your single story cage is about 42" long by 44" wide, then there isn't much advantage of a two story half the size on each level other than the ramp might be fun for them to run on.
**UPDATE** I have since discovered CRITTER NATION cages, which seem very well made and can be customized with additional wooden shelves. Links and cage samples can be found on www.ohiohollandlops.com/bunny-care.html. Link to Critter Nation on Amazon (affiliate link, but this is the cage I just purchased for my bunnies!): www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001NJ0DAY?ie=UTF8&tag=ohiohollandlo-20&camp=1789&linkCode=xm2&creativeASIN=B001NJ0DAY
Just look on the website and they must have seen the video because there is now a option of vinyl on both levels for 37 extra dollars 🤦🏼♀️
Heisquareman did you find another cage for your bunnies? If so, where?
I agree with why they don't just do vinyl in all of the cages at the same price. Also, I would never order from a company that adds charges without letting you know first! That is fraudulent!
Thanks for your honest and fair review. I'm sorry you had a bad experience too. :(
I work at Storey publishing and am currently working on Rabbit book from a renowned rabbit author, he recommends Bass Equipment, KW cages, and FarmTek. I am looking to buy cages myself right now. Thanks for this great video.
I'm glad it was helpful. :)
I enjoyed your review very much. The customer service as you described would be a real turnoff .
I use the Living World cages and my bunnies seem to be very happy in them and I like them also. I find them tricky to put together without help but once they're assembled, they're great.
Thanks for the cage suggestion!
I'm sure others will appreciate hearing what works for you - thanks for sharing! :)
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops You're very welcome. 😀
Can you make a video on your diy cages?
Finally you did a video I love when you post a new video
Still waiting on my KW cages. After 5 days of calling and unable to get ahold of customer service, I finally spoke with someone who said their machine broke down and my order is going to take another week to process 🙄 my bunnies have been waiting too long! Ugh so annoyed.
Also, I think I told you but I got charged the $45 PER cage for requesting the vinyl on the second floor.
Thanks for sharing your experience on this page, Stephanie! I share your frustration! I SOOO wish I could recommend a better company than KW!!
That's totally ridiculous, isn't it?! WHO wants carpet anyhow??!!
Yes, of course! My husband and I were watching your video and we agreed with everything you stated. You can also build a c and c bunny condo from c and c grids, it’s a lot of work but saves money and really pays off 🙌🏽
Yay finally and a video from you I love ur vids and you dont need topic for a video without topic also ur vid is very very amazing 😀😁😊

Their is now an option to get vinal on all levels, when I orders my 3 story. It charged me an additional 35 per level, so I got charged 70$ extra.

Squeaky Squirrel could you explain further how you did so? Good idea!

Could you please tell me what size EZ Crocks you use? Thanks for doing the review. It is very helpful.
I use the small 5oz dishes. If you feed more than 1/4 cup of pellets at a time, you might want a larger size.
Could I also ask if your bunnies like the metal tunnels from KW Cages?
i love your videos and i love lops i mam thinking of getting one but i haff to do my research
They did update their site by the way to give the option of the vinyl flooring for the extra fee.
I saw that. At least people won't be blindsided by an extra fee after purchase. Glad they changed their website...only took a year! :)
Your cages are fantastic!!! But, can you say me please where you bought them? Because I want them too!!! 🐇💖💞
The link is in the video description, and you can also Google KW Cages and find their website that way.

Made a 3 level bunny cage out of 5 shelf metal shelving unit.
my rabbit just had six babies and they are so cutie they just open there eyes
I have beautiful big wood cages with lots if room. They take up lots and room so I can only have 5 cages I would like to get something like this so I can stack them and get more bunnies but those are so expensive! I haven't found anything like them that aren't lots of money yet
Thanks for showing us Cammy. Im a big fan of hers. By the way, where are her babies?
Jo Jo - Thanks for being a fan, but would you please remove Camilla's picture from your profile pic? That is an image that I own. Thank you.
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops ok sure. I apologize. How are the babies of Cammy?
Thanks for removing that.
Camilla hasn't had babies for months but is due in a couple weeks. :)
Are there any ways to make the ramp holes bigger? I️ just wanted to know because I️ have rexes and I️ don’t know if they’d be able to fit through them to the different levels
Do you like the critter nation cage.?
I don't like how they do buisness. And how on their website they say affordable!! The price range is ridiculous. These are amazing cages but how much they are asking for it is just terrible. And also I am getting the double story bunny villa and it is $299.50 + $45 + $100-200 of s&h. It's very annoying they should charge an extra $45 to get vinal when the carpet at the top isn't even a good idea. It's impossible to clean! ☹️
I meant so say shouldn't not should haha whoops.
I want these cages but they are so expensive!
I put the water bottles above the litter boxes.
i bought the double story one for my bunny. and then i bought there bird cages from the company
Is it ok to have bunnies live outside in the summer weather through the winter weather ? Plz let me know , I'm looking into adopting one
Heat is extremely difficult for bunnies to endure and can kill them if you don't provide shade, cool water, and something to help cool them. Indoors or even a basement or garage is usually much safer for them.
The option to replace the carpeting is now mentioned in the third link you put in the description and it costs $27.60 (insane!) :(
I think that's just for replacement carpeting when the original wears out (since it's gross to put carpeting in a rabbit cage - ha!). There's still no option to add vinyl without calling them or having them call you after your order to request more money. Grr. :(
I've had no problems with the cages which might be because it's been 2 years and they might have changed the way they work and manage
yep. for the past week i NEVER knew when the cages shipped until a few days ago! and i am getting my Holland Lops this weekend on the 20th and it’s supposed to arrive on the 24th! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
does anyone know any short-term (not expensive) solution?
An exercise pen would work as a temporary cage solution AND be useful in the future too. Amazon sells them, and Petco sells both dog pens and small animal pens. 30" tall minimum is my suggestion.
Could the track be filled with aquarium sealant??
I don't think so, because the track is used to keep the cage sides where they belong.
If I buy a double and another single can I stack them on each other do you think?
Yeah, I hope you love your new cage! :)
How do you stack the stories if they have wheels on them
The single story cages (the ones on top) have no casters, so they stack on top of the double story.
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops Ohhh. that's really great
Woah, those cages are very expensive!
Definitely going to just make an NIC grid condo. Cheaper and I don't have to deal with this terrible company. Oof.
What are the measurements?
The measurements are shown as a caption in the video, or you can go to KW's website.
How much are the two story cages

**UPDATE** I have since discovered CRITTER NATION cages, which seem very well made and can be customized with additional wooden shelves. Links and cage samples can be found on www.ohiohollandlops.com/bunny-care.html.
Link to Critter Nation on Amazon (affiliate link, but this is the cage I just purchased for my bunnies!): www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001NJ0DAY?ie=UTF8&tag=ohiohollandlo-20&camp=1789&linkCode=xm2&creativeASIN=B001NJ0DAY
Can the rabbits squeeze out of these cages via the metal bars, especially when young?
