The LA Fire situation: We survived and our home survived! Fires got crazy close, we had to evacuate, and we don’t have power, water, or gas! BUT we’re extremely lucky. I love Altadena, and I love you all. Thanks for the support and thinking of us. ❤ I’m trying to keep the upload schedule regular so hopefully we get power again soon, had to hotspot upload this one haha 😂
Ricky, stumbling across one of your videos years ago sent me down the synth rabbit hole and changed my life in a really good way. You’ve made a huge impact, and this video reminds me why: beyond your talent, the vibes just pour out of you. I hope you have as much love in your life as you share with us. Peace
Literally same for me man, saw him make some house on an mpc 1000 which made me buy one but that mpc just turned into my midi sequencer for a LOT of synths, completely changed my relationship with music and making music forever and for the better
After a two week hiatus, time to plug all the gear back on and have a jam. Thanks for the inspo! Hope you and your love ones are safe, Ricky. Big love from Australia.
No disrespect to them other folks but... when they make these gear videos and they're jamming, they be making straight assssss with gear that's supposed to make you sound GOOD. However, Ricky, you always make GOLD with your gear haha thanks for inspiration and knowledge! Glad you're safe from the fires. Sending good energy to your city, friends and fam!
Great track and great vibes! I learn so much form just watching you listen and tweak. I'm so happy to hear you're OK from the fire. Just donated to your fundraiser. Thanks for all you do and sending love and support to all in LA.
Hey Ricky, love your videos, they are a huge inspiration to me since the day I found your channel when I got the PO-33. One thing I've been noticing while listening thru some Genelec speakers is that around 5:36 there's a whining noise which I found thru a spectrum analyzer to be around 9350-9800Hz.I think I heard this on other videos as well (I think the Ableton Move live stream).
Was trying to write a deep house track for Jamuary (not my usual style) and was struggling. I knew coming here would give me the inspiration I needed - thanks!
Nice groove! I wish you could do that kind of bassline without needing to jump into the modular world. VCV doesn't have all the right modules and any groovebox that can do random is typically S&H and therefore always random. I wonder if a mix of sampling audio, slicing in the DT or OT and using random locks would work? Hmmm.. need to experiment! We need Random Pitch locks on MIDI/Sample trigs 😀 Happy to hear you guys were safe from the fires!
I'm exploring a similar hybrid setup using a Polyend Tracker instead of the Digitakt for no reason other than that's what I've got and know how to use. Same basic idea though. The modular end of things is where I get hung up with a minimal setup. I feel like I'm leaving kids behind because there's not enough space on the life raft and I gotta pick which ones I can live without lol
It is a cool and effective workflow. what i dont like about it too much is the lack of overtone modulation, when using samples, which might not be as important in your kind of house, but is in mine, and in styles of techno and minimal too. which is probably why i prefer to record some midi, and play those on some synth, and then record the syntakt parameters via overbridge, and continously modulate the sounds from the syntakt. you could do it too with samples, by using effects like sample rate reduction, saturation, filters, comb filters, chorus phaser etc, and then modulate those parameters. but i like to have control over the sound before effects too.
Hello bro, I was looking for buying the EP-133, but my idea was to start doing live mixing. So I found on your videos that it is’nt the most reccomended gear. It would be great and really helpfull if you can make a video for a basic startup setup on live dj mixing. Btw your content is really amazing! Keep it that way 🤙🏻
Hey Ricky, technical question, I appreciate any tips here. When you sample a raw sound, single note from any synth to play chromatically on the Digitakt (for example), do you have rules for setting the ADSR on the synth? I’d make Amp ADSR 0,0,100%,10% and open the cutoff to 70% allowing for unadulterated sounds and most frequencies to pass. Then I can use the envelopes on the Digi. I’ve been trying to find something online about this but nobody talks about theory. Thank you.
You know it’s tricky and I can never really decide. Sometimes I do like the sound that the synth makes. But then other times I wanna have that flexibility later on just in case. If it’s a pad or a long sound, I would usually leave it wide open, including the filter. But if it’s a very specific stab sound, and I just like the way, it rolls off and the way the envelopes are set. I’ll just sample it in that way. So that’s a long way of saying “it depends. But for the most part I do like using all the filtering and shaping on the digital if it’s a simple sound.
Thank you! That makes sense, “depends” means there’s no written rule among musicians. So optimize for your needs and taste much like spices … hence we call it “cooking” 😊. Also I thought with pads I might actually keep the settings on the synths especially if there’s a LFO at play but you’re giving me ideas to test out. Thank you sir! Always love your killer vibes. I learned a lot from you legendary Digitakt chops, enough to post a couple of tracks myself on YT!
“HUMAN WIRED EXPLORATION” is the most WIIISE phrase i v listened on this channel about TRUE CREATIVITY, fxxk rules, notation all that is BS just explore and apply taste (i m musically trained by the way and that knowledge is more a creative block than asset). Tho this set up delivers tones with far more depth and personality than the XY, XY is a great sequencer
I find it funny how this episode of "compact creations" uses a setup that is like 10x less compact than what you have been using for your last few videos.
This money is for people that are in urgent need not for the government. Maybe this shouldn't be necessary in a better world but wouldn't you try to help people in your area when shit hits the fan?
Glad to hear you're safe. Love your music, sent multiple msgs thru email, Instagram etc NO RESPONSE, how do i get in touch??? wanted to listen/buy couple of old tracks, cause i loved them!

Heeeellllll yea man! Thanks for the kind words! ❤
That must be fun…groovin to a track you’ve made. As long as I’ve been trying to make tunes, I’ve never vibed off anything I’ve ever done.
That trick for the C minor chord to the 7th and 9th ... so good! 👍 And a really awesome jam in such a short time!
Yep, it's sick. I can hear it in my head, the sweet voice of a young person singing over this. It's a hit.
Right?! Ugh I was hearing some vocal samples too
Glad to see your place was okay. I'm from Pasadena. Tough times for a couple of our friends up in Altadena.
Yea a ton of our favorite places are gonzo 😢 im happy to hear you’re safe! Hopefully the smoke ain’t too bad where you’re at.
Wish you the best from Germany ♥
Thank you for all of your content, love and knowledge ♥
Glad you are safe. I remembered that you lived in Altadena and was worried.

Yeah he knows what's up
Beautiful sounds Ricky! ❤
What a great start to Saturday!
Excelentes sonidos. Love & hope during this time. Respect from Argentina
I find gain staging with the Reface CP to be *really* challenging - glad to know I'm not the only one! - but you make it work
Big vibes 🙌🙌🙌

Glad you are safe. Love this setup with the SP 🥰
I bet the little tiger head would fetch more than that Digitakt 2 now at an auction 😁🙏🏻✨
Wicked stuff, man. Love it. Happy to see you safe and well. Take care out there bro.
Glad to see a new video. Hope you are all good in these crazy times.
reminded me of 'Stricktly Jaz Unit' from Chicago
indeed a massive massive
sounds about like every house track i heard in the mid 2000s record shopping for drum and bass in my local store. not for me still.

Can't go wrong with the Reface CP!

Ricky! Everything OK with you and your family in L.A??? with the fires - lots of love from Barcelona!
Thanks for checking in! Our home survived, and we're slowly getting back to some normalcy
Weird seeing this pop up with everything going on over there. Stay strong Ricky.
💪🏼 gotta come back to the rhythm of daily life right?! Thanks for tuning in❤
The tiny setup = $2500 😅
Jokes aside, it does look fun! Can't wait to get the Digitone 2..
You should try the Torso T1 for some generative sequences! I think you’d love it if you enjoy the gamut repetitor
Tiny-z Rick!!!!!

yeess!
Ricky, have you ever thought about an SSL Six or BiG Six? Very interesting! Great videos dude keep up the deepness whopashshhhh 👋🏻
What is it about a minor 9th chord on a Rhodes sound…it’s like a body thing - I feel it in my neck and shoulders :)
Dope. What did you ditch the MPC 3000 setup?
@Ricky Tinez are you still using the ST?
Absolutely mad thumbnail for this video 😂
LOL

Just to control the random a littttttle more haha!
@ interesting, love the mini modular when you feature it. Thanks!
Sounds like a 1000 other tracks. Back to the button pushing board.
