The bassist John Deacon wrote this song for his wife. All these years later they are still best friends. I saw them play this live in 1976 with my best friend and we are still best friends. ✌️♥️🎶
@@leomarshall4059Yeah, apparently Freddie wouldn’t play an electric piano because he thought it was beneath him or something. Didn’t stop him from playing all those shitty-sounding synthesizers in the 80’s, though…
Bass player John Deacon wrote this song. It's him playing the dominant electric piano here. Freddie did not like the idea of electric piano in a Queen song - till John said "wait till you hear this".
John Deacon wrote this with a lot of support from Freddie. Roger thought it was too pop and light for a “Rock” band but it ended up being one of their biggest hits
I thought it sounded like John Deacon's hand in this from listening to the strong bass guitar beat. The bass in this sounds simple, but is catchy and played with a texture that I can't describe.
The movie Bohemian Rhapsody has a scene where this song and Bohemian... are discussed. The record company doesn't want the song Bohemian Rhapsody to be the feature song... too long, etcetera... Funny thing they say the kids will never sing that at the top of their lungs in the car... but Wayne's World did!!! 😅 The record executives wanted "Your my Best Friend" to be the featured song. They stated "The one Witten by your drummer Roger" that was in the movie...
The bass player John Deacon wrote this about his wife. He’s also the writer of Another One Bites the Dust. Every member of Queen wrote worldwide hit songs for the band. These 4 guys were unbelievably talented.
Freddie insisted that John play the electric piano himself because it was a 'vulgar instrument'. I'm glad he did, as it's nice to see some more of John's talent and versatility.
Queen is so versatile. Even ragtime style, the song Seaside Rendezvous!!! And even different languages. Let Us Cling Together has multi language in the lyrics. Mustapha is a mind blowing song. So many Queen classic out there!!!

This Queen song is so special. My papa and I would sing to it when it came on the radio in the car. This was 3 years before he passed away. I loved that he was 82 years old and loved rock, especially Journey. But this Queen song is now in my heart and makes me smile, thinking about my papa ❤

“You’re My Best Friend” was written by the band’s bass player, John Deacon, who has also written their mega-hit “Another One Bites the Dust”. He composed this love song for his new wife, Veronica Tetzlaff, whom he married in January 1975, shortly before the album was recorded. John enjoyed a mostly quiet home life, particularly in the early days of Queen. He was very shy and quiet. It took a good deal of time before he worked up the nerve to bring the song to the band. As Freddie said, “I refused to play that damn thing. It’s tiny and horrible and I don’t like them. Why play those when you have a lovely superb piano?” John said in a later interview, “Freddie didn’t like the electric piano, so I took it home and I started to learn on the electric piano and basically that’s the song that came out when I was learning to play piano. It was written on that instrument and it sounds best on that.” FYI - You're My Best Friend was used in an AT&T commercial and a PetSmart commercial showing a dachshund and his owner going into the kitchen for some breakfast with the song playing in the background.

The song was used in several TV shows and films such as Hot in Cleveland, EastEnders, My Name is Earl, The King of Queens, The Simpsons, Shaun of the Dead and The Secret Life of Pets, in addition to the promo for the American television adaption of Wilfred. It appears in a 2016 TV commercial for PetSmart.
Jay, you mentioned that piano. John Deacon had a very specific sound he wanted for this song and it included the electric keyboard. Freddie absolutely abhorred the idea when there was a beautiful grand piano to play. Freddie wouldn’t play the electric one so John taught himself to play it for this song
Okay THIS will bring me back. An absolute classic. IMO this is John Deacon's best song, even if "Another One Bites the Dust" hit #1 on the charts. One of John Deacon's greatest songs! I have great memories of seeing Queen perform this at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Florida, November 3, 1978. Great song!
This song was actually written by John Deacon, their bass player. Its a good example of how this band melded talents together. Roger Taylor (drummer) has one of the best rock and roll voices in the business. Brian is ranked as one of the all-time best guitarists. And yet he sings very sweetly himself. Yes, Freddie was a phenom at vocals and piano, but together this band is absolute magic. Each one of them could break off and have a solid solo career (and they have), but they are at their best when they were together.
That Deakie loves his wife for sure! The rest of the band were reluctant to do it because they started off with some really hard rock, but it is one of their best loved tracks. I sure wish a guy had written it for me!

Great song by Queen's bassist, John Deacon. Queen has a LOT of great songs, and all four band members, Freddie, Brian, Roger and John, have written some great songs. Brian May, Queen's lead guitarist and resident astrophysicist, pretty much invented thrash metal with their song, "Stone Cold Crazy", that came out in 1974, I believe. Metallica did a cover, in fact. Roger Taylor, Queen's drummer, did a song on the same album called "Tenement Funster" which is just a rocking good tune.
Brian said he suggested it should be more frenetic the way Freddie normally played guitar It was one of Freddies with Ibex The guitarist was more of a blues guitarist so it was slower

Need to hear : We Will Rock You great stomping beat !! They wrote this song for The Fans , give them a major part in a Queen song!! I promise you’ll love it and definitely join in!!
"You're My Best Friend" was written by Queen's bassist John Deacon while he was at home on a keyboard. This was the first song Deacon wrote, and it was for his wife, Veronica Tetzlaff. In the recording, Deacon played a Fender Rhodes electric piano in addition to his bass guitar duties. Although it wasn't the band's biggest hit, "You're My Best Friend" remains one of Queen's most popular songs due to its catchy melody and universal, heartfelt lyrics. Interestingly, Deacon bought the electric piano specifically to compose this song. This was not usual for the band as Freddie Mercury was generally the one who played the keyboard. The song was released as single in 1976 and reached No. 7 in the UK Singles Chart and No. 16 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The song is also a favourite for wedding dances due to its romantic connotations.
One of the first 45 RPM singles that I bought was Queen doing Killer Queen. And I believe that this song was the B-side. At first I didn't play it much, because it seemed softer compared to Killer Queen. But almost immediately, it did start to grow on me and it's one of my favorite songs by them and it still sounds fantastic to me today. A fan-favorite is I'm In Love With My Car. I can't remember if Rodger or Brian wrote it and sang lead, but is one of the few Queen songs that Freddie Mercury is not singing lead on. It's a really fun song.
Rock - it (prime Jive) from the album The Game is one you should definitely check out Which, incidentally was the first album to feature a synthesizer.
Some sad news to pass along. Gary Wright has passed away at the age of 80. You have reacted to his two big hits "Dream Weaver" and "Love is Alive". Before he went solo, Wright was part of a band called Spooky Tooth. As a tribute I hope you can react to the Beat Club performance of "That Was Only Yesterday". R.I.P.

It wasn’t John’s first song - that would be “Misfire”, which appeared on the previous album , Sheer Heart Attack (1974)
Roger wrote and sang “I’m In Love with My Car”
Queen has a pet connection. There’s a sweet song called All Dead, All Dead that was about Brian May’s childhood cat.
I adore this song No politics, pain etc, which have their place.
This is just well....lovely and unique.🌹
This was written by John Deacon (bass player) as a tribute to his wife. the lyrics are so heartwarming!
I know John wrote this song for his wife but in my heart, I know Freddie was singing about Mary.
Rock - it (prime Jive) from the album The Game is one you should definitely check out Which, incidentally was the first album to feature a synthesizer.
My second favourite Queen song after Seven Seas of Rhye. Reminds me of good times.
This song has been used in numerous commercials over the last 15 years or so-ATT phone service, an investment commercial, dog food commercial….
Queens harmonies were always flawless
I love all of Queens songs, but this one holds a special place in my heart. Its just beautifull. ❤🎼🎶
This song was my intro to Queen back in the mid 70s and I’m still here for ALL the Queen. 💗
I second that motion!
"Really Want To Know You" was a top 20 hit also.
