  • the Fawley Hill railway is in Oxfordshire and was set up by Sir William McAlpine, when the last of the McAlpine locos was due to be scraped he saved it and built the railway down into the valley at Fawley. The line is only just over a mile long but it is the steepest adhesion standard gauge railway in Britain boasting a one in thirteen gradient.

Thanks for this video of a formerly unknown railway to me! I am glad he managed to set up his own railway. He is indeed a great friend of railway enthusiasts!.

That was so interesting. Nice if you've got your own railway.

Ya,,,,, how the other half live,,,, Just build a standard gauge line down to the bottom of the garden,,, But credit to the man in saving the F/S-man stuff that would have been bull-dowsed and loads of smaller stuff in the museum.

    Very interesting Alan.

Hi Steve,,, Ya I have come across the CCLR before , I also love the Model and narrow gauge steam locos and to have that on your door step is bonus ,, the gala looks to be very well attended or supported with a good selection of locos the model engineering club here in Peterborough lost their line and track to redevelopment,,, now there is only a line at Ferry meadows but the chap rents the line from the council so hardly ever get any visiting locos ,,,, Many thanks
