Norway By Bike #5 - Geiranger to Trollstigen by Motorcycle

- Part 5.
Today‘s riding takes us one final step closer to the infamous Trollstigen.
We ride through yet more astonishing scenery before climbing up to the top of the Geiranger Skywalk at Dalsnibba. As the highest road accessed view point in Norway, it affords a stunning preview of the view down to Geiranger before we ride the same way for real. The only question is, what‘s going on with the weather?!

Looks beautiful there and the roads look amazing. Not sure the cold 😎👍
Ah the cold wasn’t so bad! We didn’t even have our heated gear on at this point!! 😂
Ah’ another episode, good one.
Summer 2022 was exceptionally sunny and dry in Norway so the weather in this episode is more ‘mot normalt’. As a sidenote: Trollstigen translates into Trolls-Ladder and it was the place where they [the trolls] came down to the villages from the mountains above, back in the days, before the oldest viking-sorcerers managed to turn them into stone with ancient Norse curses and trickery ... True story.
Ah, so that’s the completely factual history. Makes sense now! Yeah we were aware at the time that our luck with the weather was not at all normal!! It got worse than this too, but thankfully also better!
No one else does these as good as you do, Andy. Fantastic.
Thank you kindly mate. Much appreciated.
Lovely videos Andy, very mutch remembers me of my bike trip there! One day im going back. But then i wanna go to kirkenes 🙃
Excellent vid cheers.
Thanks very much again! My pleasure!
No Wang ers hear cocker 😂
Always wise to keep the wanging to a minimum!
I love the production on your videos Andy. You're particularly great with music choice.
Thanks very much Chris!
Andy, really appreciate the time and effort that has obviously gone into producing this series…watching it with the missus had her chuckling at Ian’s R2D2 conversation contributions … absolutely loving this stunning scenery and the sense of fun… brightened my day up no end!!! Once again, thanks for sharing.🤗👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers Adam! Really happy to hear that the fun is coming across! 😁
Yet more epicism (is that a word?) on top of even more epicisms. Great series being held together by B-Roll Ian. Looking forward to the next episode 🤓
It is a word now! Thanks BW. Ian will be happy to hear he’s the glue holding the ship together!
Andy, this series is fan-f'n-tastic. The production value is superb. Loving it so much that I've even sent you a beer voucher 🍻
By the way when Ian said "Bring it on" at the end all I heard was "Waa Waa Waa Waaa", because as we all know, that's how Ian speaks😊
Haha! That’s what I’ve always heard when Ian speaks! 😜. Thank you so very much indeed for the voucher Joshi. I‘ll use it on a half a beer next time I’m in Norway! 😂
Absolutely brilliant video Andy, your production is second to none, by far the best Norway tour series on you tube, keep it up as you deserve thousands more subscribers 👌
Thanks ABG! If i build it, they will come!
Ian's gone from Cazoo player to R2D2 😅😅😅
We gave him a firmware update overnight, to see if it fixed things. Seems it just went further sideways!! 😂
Thanks again for taking us with your beautiful trips, really enjoying it. How does Ian likes his ninja 1000sx? Love the looks of that bike
Entirely my pleasure Rick! Ian liked the SX, but in the end it wasn’t for him. He now has traded it in for a Tiger 1200.
Not that I want to show off or anything, but I have a very rare photo of Geiranger Fjord - one with not a single cruise liner in it. Taken July, 2020. Top tip if you want to avoid the traffic next time guys - go during a global pandemic! 👍
That is rare!! I can only agree. I saw Großglockner during the shut down, and was lucky enough to see Elafonisi beach on Crete, both with 1960‘s levels of visitors!
Many thanks for another quality production.
How did Ian get on with the Z1000SX?
Cheers TTD! Ian enjoyed the bike for this trip, but ultimately it was never going to be a keeper for him. He’s a shaft driver and the SX was more the sporty end of touring when he wanted something a bit more comfortable.
Would love a breakdown of the costs of this trip. Always fancied it but been put off by others complaining they've had to take a mortgage out for a Fanta
It’ll be asking soon enough Dominic. We kept pretty good records of our spending, so I’ll be able to break it down pretty easily.
Thanks. I know this doesn’t buy a coffee in Norway, but maybe half a packet of crisps…?
Thanks very much mate. That’ll cover at least a handful! 😄
Heading from Cheshire and up Norway in Mid July, your videos are brilliant and are moulding my very vague trip plan every time I watch one, I was all set to do some days in the Alps until I clicked on one of your Norway vlogs came off after watching one and booked Pulpit rock base camp hotel for one night now looking at front and back of that did you pre book your log cabin stop overs or can you wing it to see how many miles you feel like doing each day? great production and music choice keep up the great work
Awesome stuff! Yeah the Alps are utterly incredible, but Norway was something else entirely!! We did prebook our cabins, which restricted our routes a little bit (luckily without regret though!) but at the time we were there, there were almost always still a couple of empty cabins.
Another great video Andy, off to Wallonia at the end of June for a week, lovely but not quite as spectacular as Norway…
Thanks Ian! The most important thing is that riding is riding, as long as it’s fun! Enjoy!!
Andy, were they Mozzies, or maybe they were Scandinavian Midge, which is the same species as those little bastards that eat you alive in the Scottish Highlands
Whatever they were, they wanted blood and weren’t shy about helping themselves!
You get better and better, Andy! Phenomenal videos.
I love R2Ian2!
Thanks LL! Hopefully will get the chance to get the rest of the tour out before i hit retirement age! 😅
Great video, although you could have filmed the sacrifice of the virgins. 😂
That’s my bad. Next time! 😉
Those views...WOW! Great editing and another amazing video!
Thanks very much Darryl! We’re only half way through, so i hope they’re not going to start getting boring! 😜
What's the button you keep pressing with your left hand?
That’s the indicator cancel. It’s a real sickness and I’m trying to fix it! 😅
I think we can let the Weather Agency off this little mistake.
What a great day! 👍
Totally agree! Cheers mate!
Loving the vlog, how much spent on daily food Andy?
Cheers! We spent about 20€ a day per person, including a couple of beers every night. But we kept it very simple and meat free!
Wonderful content, I've found your Norwegian tour really uplifting. Thanks for sharing :)
That’s great to hear Morris, thanks very much!
I'm getting a serious urge to go touring to Norway ❤
Tell me about it! I planned and executed a second trip there, while I was editing this series!! 😅
Excellent insight into a trip I have planned for June/July - Newcastle - Amsterdam - Emden - Kristiansand - Lofoten. How did you pay for local Norwegian Ferries? I have seen that you can register in advance + credit card and just ride on/off with auto-payment. Is this what you did?
Happy to help Rob! We registered nothing and just rode in to the ferries. Some charged us in the spot, others we will apparently receive the bill in the post later. Though 8 months on, i haven’t had any charges yet.
@@AndyManCam Thanks - I will do the same.
No worries. Have a great trip!
Ian’s comes make him sound like R2D2! Great series of Norway, really gives the feel of it authentically 👍
It really looks like you've lost your balloon and not realised when you were holding the disappearing selfie stick at the viewing point.
Love Ian's R2D2-esque voice! Wonder how he'll sound like in the next episode 😂
Wow! Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it
That's proper privilege only letting you two through. He obviously watches your channel.
That’s the only logical explanation! 🤩
Bloody brilliant
Cheers mate! 😊
Stunning 😮
I completely agree! Can’t wait to get back there!
🤩
🙌🏻
wow
Agreed!
Some seriously amazing views and a great edit. Surely deserves big views? 👏 As a reasonably unsuccessful RUclips film maker I can appreciate the time, effort and indeed skill that's gone into making this series 👍
Thanks mate! Sadly that’s not what guarantees the big views, but I’ll keep doing it regardless. Until the money runs out at least!! 😅
When was this recorded?
Middle / end of August Peter.
@@AndyManCam thank you, I was there in september 2022 🙂
Oh really? How was your weather?
It was a 16 day trip, a bit chilly, but mostly clear skies.
No rain until the last two days. They were wet though.
It was a very good trip! I would highly recommend it to anybody.
Btw the cruise ship in the geringer fjord was also there when we arrived. It was the day that queen Elizabeth died.
That’s way better than i would have expected! Good for you Peter 👍🏻 I too would recommend it to anybody! Can’t promise the weather will be as good as we had it though!
I'm sitting here 50m above sea level, close to the Somerset Levels, watching Pooley ride through the French Alps and you ride though the immense and spectacular scenery in Norway and thinking to myself....'Neil, you really need to get out more'.
Do it! Do it! Do it! I still always think i need to get out more!!
Aahhhhhh, I was missing R2D2 😂
Ok, and the scenery too 🤩
Oh, and did you notice that every time you sing, it rains… just saying… 😉
Haha! I hadn’t noticed that, but now you mention it… 🙊
Most excellent viewage.
I didn't realise you could eat without using your fingers, to be honest.
Double sided oil injectors have always given me a problem, so I reverted to single sided years ago, and find the chain gets ample coverage. ( tutoro )
Good one.
Safe, happy travels 👍
Cheers TT. I have decided the same and gone back to single sided on the KTM. Less room for problems! Eating without fingers is avoided wherever possible! Eco innit!
Hands down the best work on RUclips Andy. And the fact that you’re sidekick is a bonafide astromech, well it’s just got everything doesn’t it?
Absolutely! What’s not to love!! Thanks very much Pat ☺️
Fantastic job yet again, plus the comedy sound effects from Ian. Brilliant
Thanks Pete! A bit of comedy is always welcome!
I really like your humor ;) Always interesting to see foreigners reaction to the norwegian roads and nature. Me and a bunch of friends will do aprox the same route trough Norway`s west coast this summer, but we will start from the north, then drive south to Lysebotn and return north again. Awesome filming and editing, keep it coming.
Thanks Halvard! Glad you enjoyed it, rather than wishing that the tourists would stay away from your beautiful homeland! I’ll be back!
Another awesome video, beautifully put together Andy… Top work! 👍😎
Thank you so very much indeed Si! 🙌🏻
At the risk of repeating myself, fabulous stuff Andy, you never fail to deliver. Definitely wasn't a tear, must have had something in my eye.... Into April tomorrow and, I guess like you, counting the days...
No risk, no fun Steve! 😜 You’re absolutely right I’m counting the days! The KTM has a date with some dirt!
Thanks for taking us with you Andy, this is amazing. On point production as always too. Excellent work.
Thanks for coming along again Mike! 🙌🏻
Dear Andy, many thanks for this splendid vids you are sharing with us. It is not only about the trip and the landscape there but also about story telling and setting the plot. I amazed about you editing skills. Please keep carrying for such a perfect stuff. Greetings to R2D2 Ian too. 🤣
Thank you so much Peter! I’ll do my very best if you keep coming along!
Another very nice movie! Can't wait to go there myself together with my wife, but first a nice summer trip to Switzerland this year.
Many thanks Jeroen. Something to look forward to and something amazing in between! Enjoy!
Wow. Just an epic tour Andy, that's it, Norway is on the bucket list 😃😃😃
Thanks Kahi. Do it! Do it now!
Another great video, well done sir. Question, are you pre booking the cabins ?
Thanks mate! Yes, we prebooked all the cabins for the whole trip. But to keep the stress down, we also limited ourselves to 250-300km per day. Worked out beautifully.
A stunning vid, Andy. The 360 camera has certainly proved its worth.
Thanks Jim! The camera really has earned it’s place in the team.
Love it Andy! Who needs plates😂😅! As long as you're riding...
I know right!! Wheels before meals!
Umm, seems a bit dull.🤷♂️
What were you hoping for? Pole dancers at the top and chocolate waterfalls?
@@AndyManCam No, of course not. Maybe pole dancers IN chocolate. I didn't mean to disparage your hard work producing your videos, so for that, I'm really sorry. When I win the lottery I'll get you to do a video in somewhere like Japan or Brazil.
Now THAT sounds like a deal i can get on board with! Good luck!
@@AndyManCam 🤑
What a cracking vlog as always Andy, awesome.
Thanks very much Norman!
Excellent video buddy these norway videos are making me want to live there ha ha, do you record in 4K or 1080p? And also what do you use for your audio if you don’t mind me asking?
Me too mate!! I record in 2.7k 25fps mostly. Audio is recorded with a Zoom F2. amzn.to/3kfW7qG
@@AndyManCam thanks I’ll look into the zoom, your audio sounds really crisp and I can’t here you breathing down the mic, I use the rode mic with a dead cat but still sound like I have run a marathon ha ha. I have been recording in 4K but I don’t think it’s worth it as RUclips compresses the video anyway and I would have more free space on the SD cards if I record in a lower Res. Thanks for your input and the link 🤘
My pleasure mate. I totally agree that 4K isn’t worth it. I do have to put in a bit of post work on the audio. Compression, low cut etc. but that’s easy enough to get the hang of. The internet taught me everything i know!
And saving on th washing up, like it, like it lots!!
Positives in all directions!!
I draw the line at beer out of a plastic cup! 🤣
Needs must mate! They were so expensive we had to share! 😜
These videos just seem to keep getting more and more epic, even though you don't think it could be possible... ;) I guess the raw material really helps... :) I would need a slow bike I think to tour Norway, I'm not sure I could maintain the required self control to keep the speed down to the required levels... :(
Cheers Matt. That’s what rain mode is for! 😂
@@AndyManCam I was thinking more like a 400 or similar to be slow enough to not get myself and my lack of self-control, into trouble... ;) (Maybe I'd need a 125... Norway Monkey Bike FTW, perhaps? ;) :D )
Oh good lordy no! Slow AND uncomfortable! Better to enjoy everything from 0-85 and then just either exercise some control or have your eyes on stalks for the rozzers!
Hi Andy, loving the footage. It would be nice to see you do a video on positioning of your 360 camera on your bike and tips you've learned over the years
Thanks Dave! Oddly enough i actually made this video a while back: Get GREAT 360 Footage!!
ruclips.net/video/yJ656ulYdP8/видео.html but on this trip i mostly just mounted the 360 where you can see it in the gopro views. Keep it simple it’s often the best way!
@AndyManCam Thanks, Andy.
My pleasure!
Ian sounds like R2D2 😂
Who knows what could happen with his voice next?!
