Insect glaive? And if youre talking about a more phalanx, poke-poke style of spear then we have the lance? I dunno i feel like the spear has it’s representation. I’d like to see a whip as that was once shown in a spin-off monster hunter manga. Or hand-to-hand style would be cool.

"Monster Fists" - they are exactly what they sound like. A hand-to-hand weapon style that shows off what a monster the hunters are. All the designs would be based on the weapons of monsters themselves. Claws, talons, pounders, paws, fins. Lots of potential there and would be interesting to see a super-shortrange, possible counterattack heavy playstyle.

I think a neat idea were to divide all weapons into blunt and cutting subtypes.
There are hammer skins that are axes, are they cutting damage?
There are dual blades that are fists, are they blunt damage?
Almost every if not every melee weapon has skins that suggest a different damage type than what the weapon normally gives. If a weapon like say Lance doesn't, just add some with the new monsters introduced in the title. If they were to mix this up this could offer more play styles without adding more new weapons or need for massive weapon re-tuning.

    • @mudshrooze
      @mudshrooze 8 месяцев назад +5

Literally jsut made the same kind if comment. its not hard to program that. If a weapon is clearly bladed even in a typically blumt wepaon type it should do cut. Like the hamemrs that are axes. I had the idea of using weapons with the moveset of a different weapon type. Using sword and shield with the moveset of dual blades, faster attack and the shield does blunt damage, maybe even guard points in the dual blade combos. Maybe you could use a switch axe with a hammer moveset, with it's big bang and charge attacks. I wanna use a great sword as an insect glaive and barely get 3 feet off the ground when I vault.

    • @subatomic993
      @subatomic993 8 месяцев назад +1

Only bad part is losing weapon identity + the damage calc. For weapon identity I feel like its always been a sentimental good idea that if you need horn break or stun monster you have to pick hammer or hunting horn, if you want to cut a tail, take a sever weapon. If they added a mechanic where there was blunt and sever subtypes then they would have to make the general diversity of each weapon be half and half sever and blunt or they would kinda lose out on a new mechanic. This would muddy the idea and many people could argue that if you ask someone what weapons they play they may only say dual blades cause they can do everything blunt and sever which kinda suck cause every weapon should have upsides and downsides so to have dual blades gain a blunt damage with half of the weapon group would take individuality from current blunt weapons. The second one is blunt or ko calc, stuff like dual blades would have to have massively low stun damage to offset the fast attacks and constant movement. I should say I have had the same sentiment and wished stuff like the Vaal Hazak hammer would do cutting damage but I think cost would outweight benefits. I still think its super interesting and I like it alot

I think that kinsects should be clasified as a pet type that you can carry with you if you want to... rise separated them from the glaive and gave them special techniques, they could allow players to wield a pheromone launcher(a reduced version of the mechanism the glaive uses to command kinsects) that operates kind of like a slinger and let us mix and match with other weapons... of course sword and shield will be cool with that.

It doesn't have to be exactly the same, but a hit and run swinging weapon would be so cool Imo. It could work like a whip that you could "Stab" into monsters to reposition yourself.

I think, if we'll ever see a new weapon, exactly because of the reasons that you mentioned in the video, would be right now.
Monster Hunter World was the best selling capcom game ever. Ever. So for the sequel of their all time best selling game, we can be sure they will throw all the money at it. Scratch another project to assemble a team to design a new weapon archetype would absolutely be in the realm of possibilities. And its not like there arent fleshed out ideas in place already. We have the Frontier weapons as well as concepts like the Wyverian Boomerang.

They should make weapons behave how they look. I remember seeing a straight axe designs act as hammers. Also remember when the longsword design was a greatsword and thinking how silly that was. When you see dual maracas you don't think cutting damage you see blunt. Maybe the best thing to do is just make the weapons do the thing they look like they should. An axe hammer or hunting horn would change the game more than a 15th weapon would! A blunt damage greatsword would be epic!

that would make a lot of weapon just irrelevant, certain weapons are already outperforming in each weapon type, imagine if a weapon type get's outperformed by another weapon type that'd be pretty stupid, and what would happen to layered weapons wouldn't everyone just use the "meta" weapon with the highest raw or elemental and sharpness and then choose the "meta" layered weapon that's most optimal for the specific hunts, that'd be weird and off-putting

The only argument for why implement a new weapon in the portable game as opposed to Wilds I can see if "They are already adding so much new stuff", which at this stage isn't really much of an argument to begin with. We don't know exactly how much they are going to change with Wilds and how resource intensive it is going to be. There could easily have been enough dev time and resources in order to development multiple new weapons for all that we know.
Also, do consider that they could reintroduce some of the Spinoff weapons as well, which probably would be less work since a lot of the groundwork is done, they just need to make it work in a modern game. The Tonfa would be my pick

Whenever they do eventually add more weapons, I could see them adding two to keep the pairings. Perhaps a boomerang as a simple ranged counterpat to the bow. As for IG, im not sure, maybe something like tonfas to match its aerial melee theme, alternatively another weapon that features a pet.

Also lance peaked with the Agnaktor Lance in Tri imo, as being able to drill into a thunder lizard under water, was so incredibly satisfying or even doing the same to Agnaktor with the Barioth lance felt extremely rewarding, but after leviathans more or less disappeared from most of the mainline games, i felt like Lance became more of a meme than anything else.

Gauntlets, which are split into two categories:
Blunt - Heavy gauntlets, punching, attacks are only slightly faster than the hammer but they are just as powerful, high chance to stun monsters if landing a lot of punches one after the other
Sever - Claws, a lot of wild slashing attacks, fight like a rabid animal, fast & mobile, lots of jump & lunge attacks, high affinity
Or maybe it's all one weapon and you can switch from punching gloves to claws and combine their movesets. And if you time the attacks correctly when switching from punching to slashing, you attack faster & deal more damage.
They could also do what Wild Hearts did and have swords that can turn into whips. Except instead of a katana, it's a broadsword. Like, a cutlass, a dadao or a khopesh. It can hit a monster multiple times with one swing in whip form. Has a lot of range to make up for it's moderate damage. Dual wield maybe?
A mace/one handed hammer that turns into a flail for more range and more impact. Increased part break chance when in flail form. Paired with a medium sized shield that has spikes at the front. If you time a block right, the monster takes damage from the spikes and gets pushed back. The spikes remain attached to the monsters and depending on what type of weapon you have equipped, it will affect the monster in different ways. If you have a poison weapon & shield, it will cause poison build-up on the monster. If it's a blast weapon & shield, the spikes eventually explode.
Or maybe chakrams. Can be used both in melee and as a throwable weapon at the same time. You throw them and they come back like boomerangs. Can charge up a throw to either hit a monster multiple times or to hit multiple monsters if they are next to each other. I can even imagine Nargacuga chakrams that look like giant shurikens.
A rapier that can turn into a spear. A lot of fast thrusting attacks in rapier form, very agile and has high affinity. Relies heavily on having to dodge a lot and then taking the opportunity to unleash a flurry of attacks. So basically, you dodge an attack, go in and attack, dodge again, rinse and repeat. The better you time a dodge, the more damage you deal.
Slower attack speed and movement speed in spear form, but has more range and deals slightly more damage than when in rapier form. Can charge attacks for more damage and impact, which can push monsters back or knock them to the ground. The spear can be thrown at a monster and it will remain attached, dealing continuous damage to the part that it's attached to, which causes said part to eventually break. But you will have to go and retrieve the spear if thrown. The spear can also be thrown at other surfaces, such as walls. You can use it to then climb up higher to either ambush a monster from above or to catch your breath before jumping back down.
Dual handcannons. Wield two large pistols that closely resemble a revolver. Depending on the monster that they're made from, it can have one of the two following firing modes:
Burst fire, for a more agile and chaotic playstyle. Has low damage and can be innacurate at times, but you have high mobility which allows you to quickly reposition yourself after each shot and is very effective at aerial combat. Also has very fast reload speed. You can flourish the pistols to increase movement speed even further. Requires perfect timing however.
Single shot, for a more slow and methodical approach, meaning that you shoot once with each pistol and then you have to reload, so choose your shots carefully. Boasts high precision and high damage. Shots are so powerful that they can break parts with 2 - 3 shots from each pistol. They are heavier than their burst fire counterpart, resulting in a slower reload speed and movement speed. Has a devastating charge up shot, where you use both pistols at the same time. The charge shot pierces through monsters, breaking all parts caught in the way and can even hit monsters that are behind them. However, you will then have to wait for a couple of seconds for the weapons to cooldown, due to them overheating. Keeping the pistols holstered during combat, will have you do a fast shot with both pistols when you attack again. You also gain increased reload speed and affinity damage for a few seconds.

I totally agree that the next portable title would be a great time to consider adding a new weapon. My personal pick would either be a spear for a melee ranged hybrid weapon, or a mainline game rework of one of the past spin off weapons. My favorite of those is definitely the accel axe because it’s really cool in concept and is way less overloaded when compared to the tonfas and especially the magnet spike.

So from the comments I see 3 cool suggestions:
    1. Boomerang: agree on that. Would be pretty neat and would fit in perfectly. Short range blunt weapon, medium range throwing weapon = awesome. Maybe there could be cool combos where you start short range, then there is a jump backwards with a throw and as soon as the boomerang comes back your character can charge into melee again with a special attack.
    2. Fists: like that as well. My idea would be to give them something like 3 stances.
Light stance = fast attacks with dodge heavy gameplay. Emphasis on hit and run tactics where you slowly whittle down the monster (this stance could be useful when you want to play it safe while setting up traps, learning a monsters move set or when the monster is enraged)
Medium stance = slower but a bit more powerful attacks with the option for dodges or counters (this would be your standard stance for quick engages and the ability to stay close but you are less mobile)
Heavy stance = slow attack with high damage but weaker defensive options (for when the monster is stunned/down or you know you have an opening)
Additionally you could also introduce grapple as one comment suggested.
The gameplay would revolve around knowing when to change stance and to use it properly. There could also be attacks/blocks that are unique to stance changes like for charge blade. Maybe you even charge Ki or something like that, that can be used for special attack ... but maybe that is already too much.
    3. Whips: was also my first idea but I would actually prefer the other two. But it could be cool to have a close to medium range melee weapon that has a strong focus on using your weapon for mobility.

i wanna see large bulky gauntlets like Vi's from arcane (i thought it suits the bulky nature of monster hunter weapons) , and instead of it being super "mashy" and quick combos i feel like it should be more focused and centered around timing and opportunity (sorta like boxing) and i've seen people point out the fact that they want kicks but idk that wouldn't really make much sense so i would imagine it more like a medium speed brawler type weapon that throws some nasty hooks and uppercuts maybe even have a meter for it so that when you get better timing it would reward you into a big finisher type move like the longsword anime slash or a rocket powered falcon punch move of some sorts.maybe add a some sort of parry or defense move like putting your hands up to block and voila, you got that mike tyson build you always dreamed of
not really sure how sheathing/unsheathing your weapon would look like though so i think that might be enough reason for them to not add it in, if that's not possible then i would love a scythe type weapon

World was already perfect for a new weapon. Rise even more perfect (like Kusari-gama, batons, gauntlets, etc). I wouldn't be surprised that instead of adding another weapon, Wilds launches with not all 14 basic weapon types from the start.

@@thenonexistinghero I disagree. Capcom would never again ditch out some weapons from MH games. It's not going to happen. Games will always be shipped with 14 weapons. They learned the lesson in Tri. Always include all of the weapons to not upset fans. They can add weapons not subtract them.
Regarding World being the best game to introduce a new weapon type, again, I disagree. If they can do it, they'd probably subtracted weapons from World not add more. Just to simplify the game even more, to reach a wider audience.
Now they reach that wide audience and they can promote the new game with new weapons to justify it.

      @thenonexistinghero 8 месяцев назад

@@Kara_Pabuc Capcom already cut out the final 15% or so from base Rise to deliver it in the form of DLC. Tri already came out 14 years ago in Japan, over 15 years by the time MH6 releases so 'lessons learned' don't exactly count.
And yes, it is easily possible for Capcom to launch the game without all 14 basic weapon types. They can just use the excuse that they do that to give them extra polish and then release them later. Capcom has learned that releasing content in a certain way works to keep content fresh for longer and they most certainly aren't above doing that for weapons.
I'm not saying it will happen for sure, I'm just saying that... you shouldn't be surprised if it does happen. Capcom wants Monster Hunter to be like live service games. It's just far more profitable. And I don't think they're going to follow the same kind of schedule they did with World/IB and Rise/Sunbreak. They did that, it worked, but they no doubt want to push it further with MH6.

I think 14 isn't close to how many weapons they can add I think I saw around 5 or 6 amazing unique ideas that could happen, I think we will get to that time of it being hard to add something unique maybe at the 24/25 weapon mark?
we only have 2 blunt weapons, a quick hitting staff would be very cool, we only have 2 morphing weapon, a weapon that switches between blunt and sharp modes 1 to gain energy and 1 to expel it (maybe like tonfas but can morph?) a melee range weapon hybird like a great shuriken + gloves to punch them into the monster and they act like boomerangs? a axe weapon that focuses on heavy quick chops that drain stamina and need perfect positioning (and while that would arguably be a mix between GS and hammer I think that is such a nice sweet spot for a new weapon imo)
thats 4 weapon ideas that can be expanded into full MH weapons that add new playstyles I though of/remembered on the spot!
also I think if they add new weapons it will be even numbers from now on just because it makes the UI look cleaner lol
also for the new models and VFX they had to do redo them all with world (yea models sucked in world but capcom were in a really bad spot when world was being developed), and maybe even with rise because it was a new engine + the palamute all had new armor and weapon designs for them! I don't think there will be any net negative knowing that wilds is on a better engine with a bigger budget and a bigger team than world's
will I be mad that we don't get a new weapon? nope as long as our weapons still get updated and the game itself is really good I won't get sad over it

  • @Terminus_4

I feel like somewhere along the way they have to bite the bullet and put a new weapon into the main franchise. Given the nature of always online gaming, its pretty unlikely we'll ever see more than 1 main series game per generation going forward. Were far more likely to receive an expansion set similar to how World got Iceborne from now on. Which means if you are going to add a new weapon to the main franchise. It either comes with launch, or comes with a expansion.
I could see the possibility of a new weapon coming with an expansion, however that might prove somewhat troublesome aswell. My primary concern being the expansion is likely to build apon the existing weapon tree like previous titles, does it really seem worth while to go back and add a whole pre-expansion weapon tree for content everyone is about to move-on from playing? Move-sets are likely to be expanded once again (assuming Wilds trims them back again, Longsword I'm looking at you) meaning that's all the more effort the designers have to put into trying to give the weapon not only a base move-set but and expanded one as well. Personally, I don't necessarily like the prospects of that either.
Regarding Gen 6 specifically, Honestly it might be the best time to add that 15th weapon for the main series anyway. My personal feeling is that its apparent that World set the groundwork for what Wilds will expand on. I don't think well see quite the same re-imagining of what MH:World was to MH:4 as if you think about how much changed it was rather extreme.
Personally, when it comes to what they should add. I like the idea of reaching back into the catalogue of existing non-main franchise weapons, my personal vote would be Accel Axe. But I can also see Tonfa's as a likely candidate as well. I think the magnet spike is interesting, but a lot of what was build into its kit for Frontier feels like it got reworked into clutch-claw for Iceborne. Obviously no confirmation that its returning (please no tenderize capcom). Honestly, I haven't ruled out the possibility that we get not one, but two new weapon for Wilds. But thats just my two cents on the matter.

That idea has kind of been implemented in the Stories series (if you are sleeping on Wings of Ruin , then stop sleeping and wake up and play it. Its awesome)
Your character can ghave 2 or 3 weapons in your "tool belt" ready to swap in combat. Stories is also heavily the reason why Rise made mounting the way they did. It's like in between Hunter and Rider while also being a magical Ninja. Rise is ...over the top haha. But that's not all bad. Many design choices I wasnt necessarily for. I think the problem with adding new move for lance is that, the point of lance is for you to be hyper defensive which allows you to continuously whale on the monster when other weapon would need to dodge/reposition. defensive move capcom could add is guard, parry, and...that's about it really. there's dodging, but it doesn't seems like capcom want hop lance to be the main think. if they add too much offensive move, it won't be lance anymore. I think the best option capcom could add is probably self-buff (like anchor rage) or utility move (like clutch claw counter for easy tenderize).

    Hear me now: a boomerang.
A boomerang which combines fast sweeping attacks, like a long sword, but that can be thrown in order to, for example, take a monster down when its flying, or to stun it by aiming for it´s face. Also, it could have like a motion battery, similar to a switch axe, that gets depleted when throwing the boomeran, adding more damage and stunning capabilities, and refilled when hitting melee moves. And, when you overcharge this motion battery, all the melee attacks make you slide because of the unbearable energy your weapons has, making them harder to recover from. But also, when overcharged, you do not throw the boomerang, you can RIDE IT, to get on top of the monster and get rid of the overcharge with a massive mounting attack, similar to the magnet spikes plunge.
I believe we need a melee/ranged hybrid weapon, and this is what i suggest.

For new weapon types that I'd like to see see...
1st.) Fist weapons. This is always my go to with new weapon videos in any game. Perhaps incorporate the move set of the Tonfas into a more punch-punch playstyle, focusing on fast hitting bludgeoning damage.
2nd.) The Frontier weapons. Speaking of "new weapons", just bring back and expand on the weapons Frontier players had.
3rd.) A proper spear archetype. No, not Lance, not Insect Glaive... I see the other comment threads. I'm talking about an actual spear. I'm thinking something along the lines of either the classic Myrmidon look or Wushu or literally any of the countless examples of spear-based martial arts we have in the world.
4th.) A smaller, faster, slashing counterpart to the Hunting Horn. Maybe something a long the line of "Blade Harp" or "Sword Sax" (The image of a Greatsword user with a saxophobe jutting from the back of the sword popped into my head and now I'm giggling).

Would pair sooooooo nicely with gunbows! I love maiming gunbows and having something that has a synergy with them would be perfect for me!

7:56 dude Longsword isn't even in the top 3 of the strongest weapons. they really should nerf the ranged weapons
