  • Don’t you ever get tired of reading track comparisons from guys that are riding at international race-winning levels? From guys who have been racing their entire lives and who drag elbow like it’s their job (literally)? Me neither, but the guys here at MO and I thought there might be someone out there who could appreciate insight from what a novice track rider might experience when comparing some of the latest 600-class supersports. The two most recently updated of which happen to be the Yamaha R6 and Kawasaki ZX-6R.

    Agree with this review. I own a 2019 R6 and I’ve ridden the new zx6.
    The R6 has a very twitchy throttle , especially in A mode. The R6 is difficult yo drive slowly in the city due to the high and aggressive riding position and the touchy throttle. The zx6r is the better street bike and the R 6 is the better track weapon.

    I've had the opportunity to ride them both as well and I agree, the 636 is more comfortable out of the box. The stance on the R6 is a bit more aggressive as mentioned, but not so much as to be a problem. I too would prolly opt for the 636 but in the KRT green. Both bikes are great though. I own a GSXR 600 btw, just so you understand my point of view.

    The R6 does come with a quick shifter. It has starting in 2017. The R6 is designed as a track weapon and the ZX6R is more street focused. The R6 rewards the skilled rider but punishes you when you do not keep it screaming. If a rider misses a shift on the ZX6R the engine and gearing makes it far less punishing of a mistake. If you are a track focused rider the R6 has the most 600cc wins for a reason. If you are a street focused rider the ZX6R is better priced, more comfortable, and engine and gearing is better.

      I consider your point of view but I hope now that stands not as for the Kawasaki's R&D for making the best of all 600-650 class superbikes.,& that's it. Considering the Power to Weight Ratio of them all, this ZX-6R dominates ,& when added with race kits then the 11 lb excess weight along with the tail lights and side light's all might add about 1.5 kgs or more & the silencer here is bigger with a Calatyst & made to meet the Euro 5 or 6 requirements, adding up more weight. But here the R6 needs to meet to the latest pollution standard's of Euro & Bharat VI Standards of India,& might be the reason why they have not launched their R6 in India since Yamaha's entry into India. I was also eager to buy this R6 but though after frequently enquiring them they have not assured to launch it in this competitive motor world as yet, Why ???
      But at the ZX 6R at competitive price & more powerful engine than the R6 will dominate the track race also & the rider's skill is all set to make use of it's power to win the track races also, as for it's power to weight ratio is far better than any other 600 c.c bike's hopefully. But this year I'm sure that ZX-6R has some changes to it further than the 2019 model. See it, & you would go for this ZX-6R.

      @@sridharc8084 I am from the US where the CBR600RR and GSXR600 are still sold. In the US we have access to all the 600cc super sport bikes. They are all very popular here. The CBR and GSXR have a hard core following. Yes I am very aware of all the updates to the ZX-6R. I agree the ZX-6R is a better street bike than the R6 because of the gearing change, the softer suspension, and the ergonomics. But as I stated in my original post it is a more street focused bike than the R6. The R6 is a very track focused bike. But with that said the CBR600RR is the best street bike of all 4 of the Japanese 600cc bikes. It is the lightest and most comfortable. With the GSXR600 and 750 being a very close second in ergonomics. The CBR is the most balanced still to date. Still to date the CBR600RR and Yamaha R6 are the best track bikes. They have more wins/championships than any of the others. Yes the ZX-6R is a good track bike, it feels planted and gives confidence to the rider. Yes an average rider will feel better on a ZX-6R because of this. The softer suspension plus the good brakes. Yes the ZX-6R feels fast on the street because of the little extra low/mid range and the gearing change. But you are never in the low/mid range on the track, or at least you shouldn't be. The R6 is track focused and that way for a reason. You are fooling yourself if you think the ZX-6R is faster on track. Again the average rider that does track day for fun will probably enjoy the ZX-6R more, but a more skilled rider will go faster on the R6. Yes Yamaha has not upgraded from Euro 4 as it did that on the R1 this year. I fully expect all their experience with that to translate to R6 changes in 2021. Not only did they make those changes to the R1 but with no HP loss, meaning there is actually HP gain with engine changes and with a full system and tune you will see nice gains on the R1. Yamaha may have some nice surprises coming in the R6, maybe even a new motor. Honda is coming out with a new CBR600RR as well in 2021. Who knows when and if Suzuki plans on finally doing a long over due update on their 600 & 750. As to HP on all the 600cc super sports. You can get 120HP to the ground out of any of them. There is no wrong 600 to buy. It is all about what the rider wants and what makes them happy as they are all good.

    636 is soft as doodoo from the factory, soft even for the 150lb rider it's spring for. I put Racetech springs, low friction seals and new fluid in the forks, and did a Ktech re-spring and revalve on the shock for less than the price difference between these 2 bikes. Bike had been totally transformed. Brakes have way way more bite. The Kawi has a much roomier cockpit, you can slide back in the seat much more, and the power midrange isn't even close. My boy has a fully modded R6 and I'm heavier and with just a decat, slip on, and a tune he cannot keep up with the Kawi. Both great bikes, they just go about what they do much differently.

    I have a 2019 R6 and the thing you need to know.. If your under 80kg you will find out that the springs are a little to stiff as the R6 uses the R1 front springs exactly the same.
    So the the issue is you have to dial out all of the front preload and compression. To get it to turn in and give you any real feedback.
    So the first thing I did was drop the spring ratio to a 8.5 nm spring.
    Makes a big difference and then you can stiffen up the front.. He's spot on about the brake is like a brick with feel so then we go into braided lines better lever motul RF600 brake fluid. And EBC pads...
    To really get the brakes to preform throw a brembo 18/20 RCS mastercylinder.
    Also another issue is the down change its pretty vague I use semi synthetic oil in 10 w 40 and makes a big difference for changing down..
    Like anything it's different horses for different courses.

      We chatted in his car while he ran my license and was asking all kinds of questions about the bike. I offered to let him ride it, and he had a hard time turning it down.
      In the end, he told that he reduced the speeding ticket to 97mph because of the fact that I pulled over and stopped immediately when he flipped on his lights when I could have just kept going and disappeared. He was driving an old 1978 Plymouth Fury cop car.
      He said it would let me avoid arrest and would save me a few points on my license, but he told me that I'd have to go before the judge.

I think Yamaha gets the build quality nod, Kawasaki gets the power nod, and Honda is losing their standing due to a lack of updates. Suzuki has their 750 advantage. Get what you want people. I doubt I can get into the 10's with my ZX-6R because when the front tire lifts off the ground I get freaked out. I can launch it well and know how to slip the clutch just right (and the bike has traction control) so the problem isn't the bike. It's me. If you're comfortable doing wheelies, you can get under 11 with the bike. There's plenty of RUclips videos showing that.

    • @MrEtherguy
      @MrEtherguy 2 года назад +1

      @@matteezy8915 Oh, maybe you mean which bike. Definitely the Kawasaki ZX-6R (excluding the GSXR-750) is the quickest in a straight line and comes stock with a quick shifter and traction control. The ZX-6R cheats with the 636 cc engine so it's got about 5% more horsepower and torque compared to any 600 cc. The Yamaha may be the better track bike, though, but it costs quite a bit more. The Yamaha may also have slightly better build quality and their engines are bulletproof. Like I said, the Hondas are getting obsolete and are even more expensive.

Any bike you get from the East (big 4) today, will be a great motorcycle for you. Pick a color you like is what I say. It will be more motorcycle than you will ever need for many years. Don't let people talk you out of a 250 either. If that is where you feel you are, then do that. Learn to ride the wheels off of that 250 before you move forward in power. That means the foot pegs are worn down to two little big toes.

    Good decision you have made in selecting ZX 6R as far better than the R6 (though this about 11 lbs less, but lacks in it's HP & power to weight ratio). ZX-6R passes the Euro-6 & Bharat -VI pollution standards requirements as of now, but the R6 has not yet passed these requirements. It's not just the 600 c.c bikes but even about six 2-wheelers 150 c.c scooters of Yamaha sales has wounded up so as to meet the above requirements in India. I don't know why the Yamaha India is lacking behind in meeting to the environmental certification requirements. Sad though 😯

  • @jacquescrusan9500
    @jacquescrusan9500 3 года назад

    ZX6R- biggest deal-maker is it's capability to generate torque below the powerband, making it a much more usable street bike. Biggest takeaway from this is the relatively downplayed 'slingshot' effect that's typical of a 600, which makes the biggest single difference in removing a novice's fear factor upon their initial season of riding. Add that to more open and relaxed ergonomics, and it's a sure winner for the everyday rider, new or otherwise.
    R6- A far more track-focused and dedicated racing machine that takes advantage of a 600's high-RPM power potential, and thus shies away from generating torque down low to generate more power up top. Add that to the more aggressive rider triangle and you come away with a machine that's far easier for a novice track rider to get accustomed to, due to requiring less overall physical effort to achieve the same result.
    Verdict?
    Kawi's dominate the street for a reason, and Yamaha's swarm the track for a reason. The only question is where are you going to do most of your riding?
    Side note: Kawi for taller riders (bigger than 5'7"/greater than 30" inseam), yamaha for shorter, more compact riders
