missed you emily!!! kept going back and forth just to check on a new update, so yay for this!! I also really absolutely loved the talk with Dr. Bydon (I watched that 3 times to really understand the concepts you talked about and I enjoyed it! I put it on during a 30 min drive and made my dad (an Internal Medicine physician) drive while listening to it as well! thanks for these, all love
Aww, I missed you too! 💖 Your message totally made my day, especially since I've been feeling a bit down. I'm so glad you and your dad enjoyed the talk with Dr. Bydon. Thanks for the support and encouragement-it really keeps me going! All the love right back at you!
@@emily-feng-md-to-be I just saw this!! Thank you, Emily!! You are an inspiration to I'm sure so many, and will be much more so when you finally get that MD!! Yay, I'm glad I got to share my words of appreciation and to hear that it totally made your day (omg I'm fangirling so hard!). We all have these days, your feelings are so valid for that and take all the time you need. My dad also says hi and always want to extend his warm gratitude for those willing to work in the field of medicine - he says it is tough out there, but truly rewarding, and he could see that you are a brilliant individual who enjoys your passion and puts his faith in you! Keep grinding but don't forget to rest. And so whenever you need just a little bit of extra push from the community online, know that an friend and a fandad (?) who's been practicing for 29 years is totally rooting out for both you and Michael! We're already so proud, go, our md-to-be's! Hugs, Em :D
Thank you so much for your kind words and well wishes! 💖 In undergrad I sent out a bunchhh of cold emails to profs and researchers from nearby unis, introducing myself and why I was interested in their work. Don't get discouraged if they don't respond right away and follow up in 1-2 weeks! In med school, I found that cold emailing still works but if you have ideas for projects you can also reach out to PIs with a research proposal and sometimes they like that sort of initiative :) hope this helps! best of luck
What I’ve done is attend research fairs & conferences that your university is holding and that gave me the chance to talk to some research professors. Also, if you like a class you’re in, go to that professors office hours and introduce yourself and ask if they do research. Essentially, network. I will say that it is easier to network at smaller universities with fewer than 20,000 undergrad student compared to universities where there are 100,000. If you’re sending emails, maybe also write a cover letter which just explains why you’re interested in their research and maybe include a professional resume. Good luck!!!!
Best summer of my life! ❤
