The fact that this is one of the first times in the game that we hear a real instrument played instead of a synthetic soundfont truly adds to the emotion of the piece.
This song will always hit me in the feels, hearing the story of the monsters suffering from the perspective of the monsters. They went through a lot in the war and lost everything, then they built a life for themselves in The Underground and down comes Chara who gets adopted into the royal family giving them hope for the future. And then they die and Asriel goes up to the world above to honor their one wish (and their plan) only to get mortally wounded when he tries to lay them to rest, he tries to go home only to die in front of his parents and with that taking any hope the monsters had left for quite some time. It's really quite a sad story and I couldn't think of a better song to be paired with it. Great job on this one dude
Honestly I can’t really blame Asgore for his decision. I don’t agree with his decision to kill the human children, but I can see how his grief and Just Anger blinded him from thinking clearly. Besides that, had he not waged war on humanity that day, I’m pretty sure it’s implied in Game that the Underground would’ve thrown a revolt. Considering how much they emphasized how hopeless and aghast they were at the prince’s and Chara’s death. So in the end it really all was what could be done to keep the Underground going at the time. Still… Had ASGORE truly wanted War I think we all know he would’ve gone through with Toriel’s plan and used one soul to go through the Barrier and taken 6 Souls from the Humans and returned to free his people and wage his war. But NO… he would rather stay down there meekly hoping that another human never falls so that he doesn’t have to take another child’s life, and so that his decree of war would forever go unfulfilled. The UnderTale is a Tale of Tragedy, Loss, Despair, and Regret. It is a Tale of Hopes, and of Dreams. It is truly a Tale that surpasses Time.❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
In my opinion, this is definitely THE best soundtrack in the OST, hands down. Your cover is awesome, the only sad thing is that the build up is a lot faster than the original, that is- it's ends soon, too soon. Keep up the good work ♡
This song truly shows the emotion of Undertale, at times it can be a good old fun comedy giving good jokes, bad laughs, and more, but at the same it… it’s able to show a truly sad story of being trapped for Hundreds if not thousands of years in search of a way to escape, almost every character has SOME sort of drama in their life, even the small ones like Shyren and Gerson, in the end THIS is what Undertale is, a story what you will create, a story of loss, a story of hope, a story of possibly both, it’s your choice.
I know other songs from the Undertale OST have always gotten more love, but the title track has always been my favorite (and to me, the most poignant). This is so, SO well done, and the builds to fanfare dropping off to simple melodies fits with the tone of the game so well.
