As a former smoker, and I can only speak for myself, smoking always made my health much worse and also harmed my spiritual life. Having an addiction that forces you to be anxious about inhaling filth at least once an hour severely reduces your ability to participate in mass or adoration, for example. Try taking a holy hour as a full-on smoker. I remember smoking a cigarette before mass to reduce the cravings and then having to worry about at least an hour having passed before going to communion. All in all, I see no problem with smoking a pipe or a cigar on occasion in a social setting. But it’s an obviously unhealthy and addicting substance nonetheless. Better not to smoke, period. The fact that it looks cool (and it really does) doesn’t make it any better.
As a fellow Michiganger, I can confirm that every highway is covered in weed billboards, and moreover, every street corner in bigger cities stanks of weed.
People are total morons when it comes to talking about weed. no matter what the facts are, they find any reason to demonize it. Whether its the smell, the act of smoking, the fact that it had the stigma for so long as a hard drug, people just turn off their brain when certain topics come up. and weed is one of them.
@@ovechkin100Or it’s because folks such as myself who have been heavily smoking seen early teens understand that it really is not good for your brain and those who defend it are coping hard asf. This is because It’s easier to be weak..

Kind of disappointing addiction wasn’t mentioned at all. Addiction is from the enemy and we were created to be dependent on the Holy Spirit and under His influence.
He did mention addiction pay attention. At the 7min mark he was referring to disciplined consumption like having a glass of whiskey or a smoke off the pipe at the end of the day from work without “losing yourself to it and becoming a degenerate”. He’s referring to addiction.
They talked about anti smoking propaganda and how good nicotine is for young men😂 are you kidding? Nicotine is highly addictive and tobacco is carcinogenic in ANY form. I get in moderation but it’s still carcinogenic. This channel is becoming more of a conservative culture echo chamber than a Catholic media channel.
I quit weed after smoking 10 years straight, nothing better in the entire world for bodybuilding soreness or aches and pains of a labores job. I could train heavily 2 hours and be completely wrecked, smoke and be fine in 10 mins. But no matter what people say it is addictive when you start applying it to everything as a form of "its more fun high". Starting your day is more fun high, Lunch became more fun high, watching TV anytime was more fun high, playing video games x10 more fun high, gambling way more fun high (quit that too), dinner tastes better high and you can obviously sleep better smoking before bed lol. I quit a year ago, it's easy to do, just stop and let the thc pass, work out hard and sweat it out and move on with life sober.
One of my other motivating factors for quitting, a pastor I like had a sermon about it and said "Your a curse to your household if you smoke pot" and of course that it a harsh take but that dang take stuck in the back of my head like nothing else. Lol
@catholicfamily6719 I'm sure I was. I have plenty of pains from my bodybuilding injuries from the past but still wouldn't use it for those. I'm sure I would get temporary relief but I would rather just live with it and do Epsom stuff .

I used to defend it just like everyone else in these comments, so no hate to them. But once you quit, you see it.
Very true. It becomes an identity and then everything you do requires that state to feel that way. Which in itself is how something becomes addictive. I know people who just smoke it to the point where they’re way too relaxed and they have to have it to get through the day. It’s just another way to escape reality. It didn’t really make peoples lives better. It just keeps them from experience life in a real tangible way even when it’s not fun. Life isn’t supposed to be fun constantly. Eventhough people want it to be. It’s work and it’s not always easy, sometimes it’s humbling. Yet we can get through it with discipline and God.
If anyone here would like to know more about Nicotine, Cannabis and Alcohol from a scientific perspective. Dr. Huberman has videos on the pros and cons of each of these. Alcohol has the least amount of benefits than the other two.
Just because one substance is bad for one’s health does not necessarily mean that another is good instead. It isn’t a binary circumstance. Both or all three can be bad. Both my parents as well as my father-in-law died in part as a direct result of smoking cigarettes (Emphysema, COPD, major heart disease/blockage, Lung Cancer). Not only that, but my mother-in-law’s quality of life was hampered by 2nd-hand smoke. It’s why I’m also opposed to smoking marijuana - breathing in smoke of any kind cannot be great for lungs.
@@jimferris9447 I understand that. I believe all 3 can become troublesome when used chronically, without supervision or control. I was just pointing out the alcohol like that because lots of people seem to view it as the “healthier” option.

Every person i know that smokes Mj once a week or more frequently in the week, are completely lethargic to life and unmotivated to do anything for their life or others.
I remember my teenage peers who smoke it regularly couple times a week. Maybe you recover your focus and all when you stop, I don't know where are there now, but it was really unsettling.
@F2332unn32 no it does, I know hundreds of people and they are all around the world. I keep in touch over the years and it is the same thing, different day scenario.
Never saw the appeal of either inhaling smoke into your lungs or putting it in your mouth, whether pot, tobacco, or whatever else. It's obvious to me that smoke is not meant/not good to be ingested. Of course recreational smoking has a gluttonous aspect to it, but those who profess smoking pot for anxiety I never understood either. Are you sure there's nothing else you could do to mitigate anxious feelings than burning a psychoactive plant and ingesting its smoke? Seems like there would be prima facie plenty of other/healthier alternatives.

My biggest issue with legalized pot is how much it stinks up an area. You can smell it on a highway if someone ahead of you is smoking it (no they aren’t allowed to they break that law) but good luck to cops trying to figure out which car it’s coming from. And residential use … it smells up half a block with that skunky smell.
Same could be said for the amount of drunks spilling out of a bar or club causing ruckus in a neighborhood, or a cigar shop as for as “stinking up” a whole area 😂 😉
@@CatholicsForTrump Totally not the same thing, and you know it. Weed loving hippies are the worst. That junk is pungent and the bitter smell is terrible. One issue I have with weed is the intent of the drug. People often say alcohol is worse than weed, but alcohol can be consumed just because you like the taste. You don't have to get drunk. Weed, on the other hand, is used for the purpose of getting "high."
You realize you can literally use that same argument for marijuana? It can be used for health reasons and not to “get high”. Many people can feel buzzed, or “high” even off one drink.
@@CatholicsForTrump I would argue that is a side effect, not the goal. I can understand medicinal uses for marijuana, but I see using weed recreationally like doing Tylenol recreationally. If it is used as a medicine, fine. If it is for the buzz, that is a problem.
There is no explicit teaching within Church doctrine on the use of marijuana, so one should defer to philosophical and scientific argument over whether or not it can be considered good. Which is what they did.
@@феофилакт-п4ш Actually, they didn't. They repeated tropes and stereotypes that have been recycled for the last 70 years. They didn't cite studies. Matt, if you feel so confident in your stance, bring on someone who has an opposing view to your own.
Personally I'm fine with medical prescriptions, but overall I think the legalization of weed would be a net negative for society. As mentioned in the episode, weed makes you chill. The problem is that it makes being bored and doing nothing okay. There's no motivation to do anything other than sit on your couch and eat junk food. It's definitely true that a weed-filled America would be FAR easier to control.
I vape cannabis every night before bed for medical reasons. I find it makes me more contemplate and focused on God at night. I usually listen to the Chants on the Hallow App and i can just sit, think and feel. I usually will write down prayers that come to mind too. There is a depth there that I struggle to get to without Cannabis. I think it opens my mind and heart. I get why its bad if it leaves you lazy and slothful. It just doesn't for me as long as i am intentional on what i do after I vape.
This is a cope. In other words you’re reliant on mind altering substances to conduct prayer because you don’t have the mental discipline to do it yourself, that’s pathetic.
God used marijuana to bring me to him. I’ve had a similar experience so I can understand and sympathize. But you should know that it is condemned in the Bible though… Edit: also if you’re Catholic you’re bound to believe in the spiritual realm which I believe drugs can open you up to.
That’s great, it’s not for everybody, but I’m so glad it worked for you. It’s also amazing for chronic pain, and has given countless people their lives back who use it medicinally for that reason.

Medical edibles are beneficial for PTSD. Try taking Xanix and see how bad that is for you and your memory. Depending on the type, you're creative, pain-free, or can be relaxed. Much of the canabis today has such a high content that it can cause psychosis or bring out schizophrenia. It can be dangerous, just like any other pharmaceutical. The one thing that has me scratching my head is why is it being pushed so much?
Matt says he’s not trying to start a war or is trying to shame anybody who uses THC for medical reasons, but then goes on to say “if that’s even a thing”. He seems like a guy who has his finger on the pulse, but he’s definitely living under a rock on this one.
The Christian community as a whole has had the wrong impression on weed for a long time. If you partake in alcohol or tobacco, then let go of your preconceived notions about marijuana. The idea that it makes you lethargic, lazy, and unmotivated is an old trope and I think even some novice users play into themselves because they think that's what being high on weed is. I'm a frequent user, have been for a long time, and I lead a very successful life. That being said, it effects everyone differently and if you do find yourself unable to lead a responsible life then you should probably quit and that goes for any substance. Moderation in everything is key.
God gives us the gift of life for a purpose and to do his will, to willfully choose to shorten this gift of life by fifteen or so years, is to show ingratitude to Gods gift and purpose. Whatever choices we make that harm , hinder, or shorten our life’s , is to choose our will over Gods , what could we do for the kingdom with an extra 10 or 30 years. Whether horrible diets, obesity, drugs, alcohol, to willfully abuse and shorten our lives is to not value Gods gift of life and his purpose for us, we shorten our Christian influence and example, by our excess’s etc
What if you like to partake in extreme sports, it can potentially shorten your life but what if you enjoy it. Where is the line between enjoyment and risk. Just wondering whats your thoughts?
@@pintswithaquinasmaybe I can elaborate and possibly zero in on something you touched on and Doyle insinuated with you yourself admitting to having a poor argument but sticking too it (“*I* feel as If it’s a bad thing to deconstruct taboos”). Your arguments ultimately seem to rest on your personal feelings, opinions and observations of the substances, and not ultimately grounded in God’s word. Disclaimer: I am in no way an advocate for pot, I am not trying to rationalize my behavior; I have been clean and sober for a while but I just have never found a dialogue or explanation that satisfies consistently why X is ok but Y isn’t. Alcohol and Marijuana are substances created by God for some reason and they have their function or use, whatever it may be. What I found troubling in the dialogue was you both severely overstated properties of MJ that make it negative and incredibly downplayed (if not ignored) the properties of Alcohol that make it negative. I could make similar arguments against alcohol that are constructed from the logic of your criticism of MJ. Alcohol makes people violent, like you two mentioned it “brings you out” but some people do things that shouldn’t have been brought out. it makes people angry; which is ultimately on the farthest spectrum of which this “outgoing” effect you two described is also on. (And I want to point out that I’m a similar vain, sloth is the farthest on the spectrum where mjs calming effect is found). Overconsumption of alcohol and alcoholism are serious ailments that are responsible for such terrible tragedies like drunk driving and liver cancers. Obviously, these are the effects of both overconsumption and poor spiritual discernment (e.g., if you know you’re an angry drunk don’t drunk too much or at all) and you would be correct to rebuttal with something along the lines of “yes, this is why one must know themself and adjust and control accordingly” But couldn’t the same be said of MJ? Wouldn’t it be not to hard to conceptualize a world where alcohol is also illegal and thus got associated with hippies. I know I missed several key steps in articulating my nuanced opinions but I feel as if In that world, this conversation would have been the other way around. I could totally see a world where hippies in the 60’s would say “try this, man, it will bring you out of your shell man”. And in this world I could totally see the Libs just pushing this through like they do Pot. Again it just seems that our opinions are in large part a result of just the way history played out and the milieu of which we are from. While I disagree with the more fundamentalists who blanket say all substances in any quantity are bad (like Mormons or Adventists), I appreciate the consistency. Appreciate the dialogue as always though, Matt.
Matt missed the cutoff for “boomer” by almost 20 years. Not sure if he was trying to be funny but it came off as idiotic. Also odd that we are sitting here demonizing weed and not alcohol. Also odd that we think nicotine is cool now.
I’m late to the party but the arguments against weed are crazy to me. In my humble opinion, (who am I right ?), I get the people who say “ weed does this” “ weed does that” But me personally, I don’t depend on weed. I smoke it occasionally. And when I do smoke, It draws me to pray. It draws me to dive deeper into the word and think about things from a different perspective. I literally prayed 2 rosaries, not out of scrupulousity or whatever it may be but out of sheer awe really internalizing what I was hearing. Yeah yeah but the catechism. What about it? It says “ any use of a drug aside from strictly therapeutic grounds is outlawed “ I’m also paraphrasing. CCC also says if it’s illegal in your place of residence, it’s a sin. Also, the drunkenness aspect of drugs of any sort is a huge deal too. Therefore I will say, alcohol is on the same level. This Harry Potter looking fella in the video said “ I’ve never seen high people do anything interesting “ Most of the people I’ve seen do anything interesting off of alcohol are at a level I would call in the alcohol world “ drunk”. Which is a sin. Having a drink at night to relax is equivalent to smoking some of that ganja. the relationship between marijuana and mental health is also a poop argument. We have seen alcohol time and time again have the same effects. I’ve seen people lose whole careers because of alcohol and then end up losing health due to this habit too. The marijuana hate is crazy. And the fact that people admit the bias but see no error in their thought process is crazy too.
Certain things like caffeine and tabaco have an effect on one’s “Spot light focus” while others like marijuanaaa have an effect on one’s “flood light focus”
I am a default traditional Catholic. I pray the rosary every day I also smoke and eat weed every day Without it, I have migraines… Every day There is a difference between using and abusing a substance
@@tonynguyen8166if you are interested, I used to smoke weed every day starting at age 12… a true problem child. Went through college and was always an atheist… converted to Catholicism when I was 24 and quit weed cold turkey. Less than a year later I started suffering debilitating migraines. I tried the pharmacy stuff and it worked but I started getting high blood pressure from the meds. I did some research into migraines alternative treatments… tried massage, chiropractor, lost weight, slept more, etc… but they still kept coming back. Then I started smoking again and it is much better. Now I get like 2 migraines a month instead of every day!
Unfortunately you are abusing weed. You have an underlying problem if smoking takes away your migraines. If you continue to be a chronic smoker the weed will have long term negative effects that will add on to the issues you are having now. I would seek medical advice because the weed is just a bandaid. Lots of people also use weed and alcohol because it “helps” them go to sleep. That’s a big no no! The science is pretty clear that being under the influence of either of those isn’t good for your sleep architecture.
I’ve been a lifelong Catholic and I’ve tried weed in College for the experience, passing a joint among a circle of friends. I’ve done it twice and it did nothing for me so I didn’t continue to do it. To be honest, I think of it as akin to drinking just to get drunk. I guess the ultimate goal of weed is the high. There is no middle ground like drinking has; the zone where you’re buzzed but still have your faculties. That’s why I’m more on the side of “weed is bad” but I don’t demonize people who partake in it and it doesn’t run their lives. Some people use it for creativity and some become zombies. I guess it depends on the strain they’re imbibing? The therapeutic uses for marijuana seem to produce good effects ie. CBD oil. I honestly don’t know enough to really formulate a proper educated opinion, but it’s just something I don’t wish to have in my life.
Those who think they are more creative on weed are literally just experiencing dependence. Former heavy pot smoker here, not a single person I smoked with were more intelligent, and better thinkers while smoking this stuff. They had issues in life that would impair their thinking and used marijuana cope instead of finding a healthy solution.
It's always interesting to me to hear perspectives on drugs/drinking, even when I don't agree with those people. It is way less interesting to read the comments responding to those people 🤣
My consensus is this; Weed has certain mind and perspective altering and warping chemicals that inflame the existing passions and vices you have trouble controlling once high. Munchies = gluttony Porn = lust Laziness = sloth Etc etc I personally can attest to this smoking a few times in high school and basically just feeling everything much pleasurable from food to being a coomer. Unfortunately weed at a societal level right now is disastrous because we have an unvirtous society and a society that is completely controlled by vices. But low key I will say, if I smoked I would want to read because something about weed helps you understand and peel back layers of things. It’s weird but I’m sure if you’ve gotten high you would know what I’m talking about. I remember being high and breaking down the advertisements on tv and seeing actors try their hardest to act. Basically I could think in more “dynamic” ways. Unfortunately I turned this against myself and overanalyzed and knitpicked my life and it gave me a episode of depression.
Oh wow, yeah, I remember after smoking once I watched an episode of the Kardashians and I suddenly saw how every thing they said was fake, then I was able to see actors 'acting'. Since then I can't even really enjoy any type of television created for the masses, because I just can't take how fake it is.
I would agree with them all save for porn. For some reason. While high. I'm most aware of how detrimental it is and of how grotesque it is. And feel really bad about what it does to all of us and marriages and stuff. It grosses me out when I'm high. But yeah I tried it again after like 8 years of not touching for practical reasons, Work etc. And I just couldn't get into it. It made me too lazy. And not even like a chill, fun video game/book/music lazy. But just straight up sleep lazy. Total evening killer.
I'm 2 years clean and sober now, and I work as an addiction counselor, and this guy is the most clueless individual I have ever heard speaking about drugs.
How about not putting things into your lungs that the Lord never intended to go there? How about that? Nicotine and weed both deserve every piece of negative press they've gotten.
Smoking anything in general isn’t really healthy from scientific consensus but I agree that smoking tobacco does provide more benefits than marijuana does. My meds for ADHD are making me produce more chemicals in my brain to focus so I don’t think it’s inherently bad. It’s that smoking just isn’t healthy in general. Today we have a bunch of different methods to dose nicotine for focus other than cigarettes
My thoughts are these. It shouldn't be illegal, but it shouldn't be encouraged. Not everything that is bad should be against the law. However, we as a society should allow for people and businesses to refuse to hire those who use weed.
Kids use pot smoking as an identity thing, the same way they use alcohol and even nicotine to an extent. You can use all of these like an adult in moderation.
Gensis 1:29 And God said: Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed upon the earth, and all trees that have in themselves seed of their own kind, to be your meat:
It's always interesting listening to people pick and choose acceptable drugs. Know yourself. It is not what goes into the man that defiles him but what comes from his heart. If whatever you consume, inhale, ingest turns you into a glutinous, lustious or angry being, then that item is no longer good for you. All living things have a soul and that includes plants. In terms of the most natural and from God well that's an obvious answer. Age is major factor in all of this, and that would include the type of food we eat. Many variables.
I'm against all recreational drugs, and completely disagree with his assessment of alcohol vs marijuana. Alcohol only brings you out of yourself in that it removes your inhibitions. It numbs reason and makes you more willing to use others for your own desires- actually encouraging selfishness. As to the war on tobacco being about cigarette breaks- smoking isn't exclusively masculine. I personally know more women than men who smoke. But the requirement of a smoking break admits that it's an addiction. If you didn't get that break, your mind would become so focused on your need for nicotine that you would be unable to focus on your work. I don't know if it gives focus at first, but if it does, then it's kind of operating like a demon by creating a dependence. I would say caffeine works in the same way, although perhaps to a less dramatic degree.
You should quit it, whether it's legal or not. I smoked weed heavily from ages 14-21, it's one of my biggest regrets. It's especially bad for you during puberty. I'd rather a kid smoke cigarettes than weed, yes it's worse for the lungs, but it's not as bad as weed is for a developing brain. The mind is a tragic thing to waste.
I truly feel that ignorance of a topic can make you be biased, and also not have the knowledge of what cannabis does or doesn’t do. That is if you knew how to dosage, different variety ( ex: sativa makes you active, gives you energy and focus) and temperance when it comes to how to and when to use it. Not everyone is trying to get “high” and watch a movie because it’s more fun and relaxed. Got to have God first all the time. Just want to ask, why do you drink red-bull and coffee at the same time? How much energy do you need for a podcast?
The trend is weed is tend to be used for recreational activity. The harm for it is it rewired ur brain, I know people who used it daily and they change over the years. You aren't wrong about the energy drink and caffeine both r bad in conjunction
The reason why people lose themselves when they never had it was because of their conviction and falling to indulgence. There are people who can taste a drink or smoke once with friends and won't need to do it later. It comes down to strong convictions. If you know you can be indulge either don't do it or if you do remind yourself that's not the end goal or fullfilling
I stopped hadn't smoked weed in like a year then suddenly I started smoking like 5 times this month. My brain fried I chose darkness I deserve to be hated because what you guys say is true. Was doing so good now I lost it all I'm so screwed
What kind of black market fentynal-laced crap are you smoking if your brain is feeling fried? If it's not for a legitimate source, don't use it. Natural weed will only dull your senses for the time you're high on it, it doesn't have lasting effects beyond that except perhaps some memory lapses.

@@CatholicsForTrump Yes, I am a Catholic and I agree it is morally wrong, if it is not taken for medical reasons from a professional. I do not think the government should fund it in any way. But like alcohol, it should be legal, as it is not even as bad as alcohol is.
I don’t know if I agree with John entirely. I’m sort of reminded of the quote “alcohol is a poison but there’s something inside of me that needs to be killed.” I’ve known a lot of stoners and I think it varies how healthy their cannabis use is for them. My dad had a big problem a few years ago because he was using it as a crutch for his depression. He eventually had to get sober because he developed that condition where weed makes you projectile vomit and he’s actually doing better without it. However, another one of my friends has paranoid schizophrenia and as we’ve gotten older, weed is the only drug she hasn’t stop. I used to give her crap for it but one day she explained what being sober is like for her and after that I was like “as long as it’s not hurting you, you should do whatever you need to be able to live inside your brain.” And in fact, now that she’s gotten off of the hard stuff and she’s JUST smoking weed, she’s a lot better. I mean don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot going on in her life that has me concerned but she seems to be in a better place than when we graduated high school. I think that this is because my dad was using weed to sedate a pain that was treatable through other means whereas my friend is using it to cope with the horrifying realities of incurable mental illness. It’s similar to a girl I met online. She has…a lot of problems. She was groomed online as a teenager, her ex boyfriend was an abusive monster that threatened her life on several occasions, and the poor thing has just been through it. She told me once that the only reason she smokes is so that she doesn’t dream because she only has horrific nightmares any time she falls asleep. I’m not going to tell her that she should have nightmares every night just because it’s philosophically wrong to sedate herself while she’s awake. Basically what I’m saying is that I think most drugs in some form can help people if they’re used properly and for the right reason. It’s a tool at the end of the day and I think a tool that can be a great mercy to a lot of people. Even the ADHD meds that I take are basically just a fancier version of meth. And they’ve actually found people who medicate their ADHD are less likely to abuse narcotics because most of the time they get hooked on this stuff as a way to self medicate. So I guess at the end of the day I would say look at your life and the reasons why you’re using these drugs and if there’s something better you could be doing, do it. But at the same time, pain killers aren’t inherently evil and not all chronic pain is of the body.
Basically the question is are you indulging or medical, weed will rewire you brain regardless of how you use it. It's important to remember that drugs shouldn't be indulge but for medical needs to some extent.
My rule of thumb is moderation, something my evangelical mother taught me. I drink, take coffee, and even smoke weed; I do not overuse, nor do I allow it to be habitual (that would be sinful), but I do smoke nicotine, which I am afdicted to, and in a sinful relationship.
hot house seedless strains are not real deal with the holy herb (dimorph not weed) the same gods creation we've evolved with as peyote psilocybin. In the end we'd fully explore the catholic realm open to its possibilities..
Could not disagree more, im a Catholic and i think that using weed is the same as drinking if you do it in the same context that folks drink alcohol. I like both and i dont see why weed is different than alcohol.
@@paulnolack297 exactly which is why smoking is okey because you get moderation of "high feeling" mean while smoking weed tunes you out completely especially the new corporation weed
@@paulnolack297 What verses in the Bible talk about getting high or consuming weed? I think if you look into why it says getting drunk is bad and if you knew anything about getting high on weed, you'd realize it's possible to get high without exhibiting the symptoms that are considered bad when drunk. Or you can continue to be blissfully ignorant in your arrogance.
So I have no issue with weed. The church should treat it like alcohol. Essentially, don't consume to the point that consumes your life or leads you to sin. In the way that alcohol may lead you to Lust and Pride, weed may lead you to Sloth and Gluttony. So it's important to use everything in moderation.
I would argue it's more about avoiding indulgence vs moderation. Moderation is still a sin. If I drink 3 times a week compared to drinking everyday, I'm still indulging in drinking. If I wanted to avoid the sin of drinking I could drink once in a month, special occasion or a when I get a nice meal here and there. You also wouldn't want to use my exs as justification of drinking rather I can drink here and there is the premise. For weed, it's going to rewire someone brain this is from trends i have seen from friends and even myself even tho I only tried it twice. Weed should be very restrict use because it will braindrain you.
This reminds me of the Botox conversation, and I really hope there is not some underlying misogyny here. Face piercings and tattoos = cool. A tiny bit of Botox = not cool. Tobacco and alcohol that can literally kill you = cool. But some edible gummies that might help with anxiety = not cool. It's great to get philosophical about this stuff, but I just don't feel like you're being consistent. Maybe this is why we have Romans 13.
Are you being exegetically obtuse on purpose? Surely you don't actually think that the leaves of the Tree of Life in Rev. 22 (which is in the Heavenly Jerusalem, not even on earth) is marijuana, right?
I think anything that alters your state of mind - unless you absolutely need it to function medically - will affect your spirit. I yoyo in my tobacco use; it does help me focus and can help me make more creative connections, but the feeling of not having nicotine would spiral me into despondency, and I don't want to deal with cancer 10 years down the road, so be smart and weigh the pros and cons for all mind-altering substances.
It’s videos like this that sometimes turn me off to this channel. It was all just about their opinions and they happen to like alcohol and nicotine, so that gets a pass. This is was not a great clip to promote the channel.
I feel seen right now. Nicotine and anything that dials you in like John is describing is such an asset if you approach it appropriately. Weed culture is naturally repulsive.
First of all, I always thought Thursday's name was Thursday. Second of all, anyone who disagrees with John on caffeine and nicotine is wrong and immature.
Why not? Those are mind altering. Matt poo pooing on people that smoke pot as he is smoking a pipe. The key is moderation. Nicotine weed or alcohol. It's all damaging your body or God's temple. It's also damaging to eat that burger as well. How far do we take it? Or should we all eat hard tack and water to br one with the lord?
The poison is in the dose! Smoke what you want, just maintain your rational mind! Also some people need to chill out and need a hit of something to cool off.
John Doyle luckily grew up in a smoke-free environment and is thus ignorant of what life used to be like before smoking was “demonized.” As someone who grew up with 2 heavy smokers I can tell you that when the anti-smoking campaigns started I was SO HAPPY that I didn’t have to breathe that in while on airplanes and restaurants and at work. And then have to deal with the idiocy of “smoking sections” on planes and in restaurants. Other people’s choices wrecking our health. Everywhere we went we’’d end up smelling like cigarettes, so disgusting. So there’s that part of the “demonizing cigarettes” story.
lol, definitely seemed like a dogwhistle of some sort. "Oh, my friends smoked weed and then watched an abhorrant and disgusting show! Therefore, weed is bad and is a gateway to sin!"
Listen to Jesus, not Paul. You are not saved by grace. Jesus never taught this, ever. You are saved by obeying the teachings of Jesus. This is clearly what Jesus taught. Read on and you will see I speak the truth. *** Paul taught, Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:13 Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. * Jesus never taught that we are saved by grace through faith in his resurrection. In fact, he specifically taught we are not saved by faith. Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?" Then I will tell them plainly, "I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" Even those who have enough faith in Jesus to perform miracles and cast out demons and prophesy will not go to heaven unless they do the will of God. Jesus is very clear about this. You can have all the faith in the world in Jesus and call upon his name until you are blue in the face, but if you do not obey his teachings, you will not be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven. * Jesus teaches that we must obey his teachings if we want to go to heaven. John 14:23-24 Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. John 15:13-14 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. * Jesus teaches that we will be judged according to what we have done. Matthew 16:27 The Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will repay each person according to what they have done. Revelation 2:23 Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. Revelation 3:15-16 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 20:13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. * If you continue to believe you are saved by grace and do not stop sinning, on your judgment day you will regret it. Remember, Jesus told you there are two roads to choose from. One road leads to everlasting life, and the other leads to destruction. Which road will you choose, the difficult road that only a few are willing to travel or the easy road that most prefer to take? Matthew 7:13-14 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. * God tells us who will not go to heaven. Revelation 21:6-8 It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But, the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the lustful, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars, they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. Just about everyone has lustful thoughts and just about everyone lies. If this is you, you had better stop or you will not be allowed into heaven. Revelation 21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter the Kingdom of Heaven, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. * There is one more shameful sin that you commit, but you don't even know what is because your heart has become calloused. It is even mentioned above, but you do not recognize it. It is a sin far worse than lying or having lustful thoughts. If you want to know what that sin is, just ask.
A Warning About Paul - you are not saved by grace i. In Ephesians, Paul teaches, Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. In Revelation, Jesus teaches, Revelation 3:21-22 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Revelation 21:6-7 To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. If we are saved by grace as a gift from God as Paul states in Ephesians, then why does the Lord say we need to be victorious to enter the Kingdom of Heaven? Victory is not a gift, victory is earned. Victory is achieved by obeying the teachings of Jesus. Victory is achieved by removing sin from our lives. John 8:34-35 Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. John 14:23-24 Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. John 15:12-14 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. ii. In Revelation, Jesus teaches, Revelations 2:1-2 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. Jesus wrote to seven churches in the book of Revelation. The first church Jesus wrote to was the church of Ephesus, which is the only church that Paul also wrote to. Jesus never taught "saved by grace, not by works," ever. Jesus clearly states many times that we will judged according to what we have done. To make this point very clear, Jesus recognized the Ephesians for their work: "I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance." * Who do you believe, Paul or Jesus? Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. or Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. * It is obvious that Jesus did not teach that we are "saved by grace," therefore one must conclude Paul is the false apostle who Jesus is referring to in Revelation 2:2. Revelations 2:2 I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. iii. Matthew 7:15-20 Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. In the very next verse, Jesus teaches us, Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven. The reason why Jesus FIRST teaches us how to identify false prophets and then in the VERY next verse he tells us "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven," is because he wanted to make it obvious who he is talking about. In the book of Romans, Paul contradicts this very important teaching. Romans 10:13 Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Jesus is very clear about why this is so. You can have all the faith in the world in Jesus and call upon his name until you are blue in the face, but if you do not obey his teachings, you will not be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven. John 8:34-35 Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. Revelation 21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter the Kingdom of Heaven, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. iv. Paul also taught, Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Jesus never taught this, ever. An evil person can believe God raised Jesus from the dead. Will this person be saved? Satan and his demons most certainly believe God raised Jesus from the dead. Will they also be saved? This teaching is illogical and therefore has no merit. v. Indeed, Paul taught many truths, but this is how disinformation works; tell many truths sprinkled with a few key deceptions. Paul's deceptive teachings trick Christians into believing they can sin and still go to heaven. If someone believes this, then what they are really saying is that they believe that Jesus died so they can be a sinner. Anyone who loves their sin so much that they don't want to stop sinning will almost always choose to believe Paul's lenient doctrines instead of the strict teachings of Jesus. Such people should not define themselves as Christians, but as Paulinians. Paulinians believe that they are saved by grace as a gift from God as long as they believe in their heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. On their judgment day, Paulinians will be shocked and terrified to learn that they have been deceived, but they will only have themselves to blame since they willingly chose to listen to Paul instead of Jesus. Matthew 17:5. While Jesus was still speaking a bright cloud covered them and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my son whom I love. With him I am well pleased. Listen to him." Perhaps if God would have said, "This is my son whom I love. With him I am well pleased. Listen to him, not PAUL," then maybe Paulinians would have actually listened to Jesus instead of Paul. Alas, Paulinians are unable to hear what God says. John 8:47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.
I really can't get on board with the whole "Smoking tobacco is cool and good for you" vibe.
Same.

Lol
Sounds like you were using it way more than you actually needed and not using it for chronic pain, which is how it should be used.

@@феофилакт-п4ш Actually, they didn't. They repeated tropes and stereotypes that have been recycled for the last 70 years. They didn't cite studies. Also, I think it's really lazy on Matt's part to ALWAYS have conversations about weed with people who clearly also share his negative view of it. Matt, if you feel so confident in your stance, bring on someone who has an opposing view to your own.
@@феофилакт-п4шyes there is. CCC says drugs are to be used therapeutically. That’s the official stance of The Church.
I have pretty significant PTSD from my career as a paramedic, and a night cap with just a little bit breaks down my type A personality and I find myself contemplating God and my relationship with Him. Actually it’s what lead me to discovering Catholicism. I personally have no problem with it unless it’s overused. Much like anything.
I’ve had a similar experience so I can understand and sympathize. But you should know that it is condemned in the Bible though…
Edit: also if you’re Catholic you’re bound to believe in the spiritual realm which I believe drugs can open you up to.
That’s great, it’s not for everybody, but I’m so glad it worked for you. It’s also amazing for chronic pain, and has given countless people their lives back who use it medicinally for that reason.
@@Kleithap I’m not into weed but where is it condemned in the Bible?
@@CatholicsForTrump man Catholics are so kind. I’m Protestant coming to Catholicism and had I said that in a Protestant community I would have been chastised. Thank you!
Matt what kind of tobacco do you smoke?

Obviously, these are the effects of both overconsumption and poor spiritual discernment (e.g., if you know you’re an angry drunk don’t drunk too much or at all) and you would be correct to rebuttal with something along the lines of “yes, this is why one must know themself and adjust and control accordingly”
But couldn’t the same be said of MJ?

I stopped smoking weed which I considered a stronghold but I don’t think he knows much about the substance to be so critical of it. IMO
pure scepticism i love it!
I’m late to the party but the arguments against weed are crazy to me. In my humble opinion, (who am I right ?), I get the people who say “ weed does this” “ weed does that”
But me personally, I don’t depend on weed.
This Harry Potter looking fella in the video said “ I’ve never seen high people do anything interesting “
Most of the people I’ve seen do anything interesting off of alcohol are at a level I would call in the alcohol world “ drunk”.

@@tonynguyen8166that’s exactly why people start using it medicinally.
It is way less interesting to read the comments responding to those people 🤣
My consensus is this;
Weed has certain mind and perspective altering and warping chemicals that inflame the existing passions and vices you have trouble controlling once high.
Munchies = gluttony
Porn = lust
Laziness = sloth
Etc etc
I personally can attest to this smoking a few times in high school and basically just feeling everything much pleasurable from food to being a coomer.

Not everything that is bad should be against the law. However, we as a society should allow for people and businesses to refuse to hire those who use weed.

I am pro weed legalization. Always have been. But I got to say, John Doyle gave a very solid argument against it. This kid has brains.
If you’re Catholic, his argument against it is irrelevant if you read paragraphs 2290-2291 of the CCC.
@@CatholicsForTrump 2290 The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others' safety on the road, at sea, or in the air.
2291 The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense. Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law.
@@CatholicsForTrump Yes, I am a Catholic and I agree it is morally wrong, if it is not taken for medical reasons from a professional. I do not think the government should fund it in any way. But like alcohol, it should be legal, as it is not even as bad as alcohol is.
@@josephmoore5949 consuming cannabis in any way is immoral?
Weed is medicine.

In the way that alcohol may lead you to Lust and Pride, weed may lead you to Sloth and Gluttony. So it's important to use everything in moderation.
Everything in moderation? Even cocaine, meth, etc?
I would argue it's more about avoiding indulgence vs moderation. Moderation is still a sin. If I drink 3 times a week compared to drinking everyday, I'm still indulging in drinking. If I wanted to avoid the sin of drinking I could drink once in a month, special occasion or a when I get a nice meal here and there. You also wouldn't want to use my exs as justification of drinking rather I can drink here and there is the premise. Many will say to me on that day, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?" Then I will tell them plainly, "I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!"
Even those who have enough faith in Jesus to perform miracles and cast out demons and prophesy will not go to heaven unless they do the will of God. Jesus is very clear about this. You can have all the faith in the world in Jesus and call upon his name until you are blue in the face, but if you do not obey his teachings, you will not be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven.
*
Jesus teaches that we must obey his teachings if we want to go to heaven.
*
Jesus teaches that we will be judged according to what we have done.
*
If you continue to believe you are saved by grace and do not stop sinning, on your judgment day you will regret it.
*
God tells us who will not go to heaven.
*
There is one more shameful sin that you commit, but you don't even know what is because your heart has become calloused. It is even mentioned above, but you do not recognize it. It is a sin far worse than lying or having lustful thoughts. If you want to know what that sin is, just ask.
Only protestants see a dichotomy between Grace and obeying the Commandments lmao. I guess you were one before falling into your current heresy
A Warning About Paul - you are not saved by grace
i.
In Ephesians, Paul teaches,
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.
In Revelation, Jesus teaches,
Revelation 3:21-22 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.
You are my friends if you do what I command.
ii.
In Revelation, Jesus teaches,
Revelations 2:1-2 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.
To make this point very clear, Jesus recognized the Ephesians for their work: "I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance."
*
Who do you believe, Paul or Jesus?
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.
or
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
*
It is obvious that Jesus did not teach that we are "saved by grace," therefore one must conclude Paul is the false apostle who Jesus is referring to in Revelation 2:2.
In the very next verse, Jesus teaches us,
Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven.
Away from me, you evildoers!"
Even those who have enough faith in Jesus to perform miracles and cast out demons and prophesy will not go to heaven unless they do the will of God.
Revelation 21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter the Kingdom of Heaven, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
iv.
Paul also taught,
Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Listen to him."
Perhaps if God would have said, "This is my son whom I love.
