I became a fan in 2009 after looking up Deftones when I heard Chester from Linkin Park say it on a DVD I have of Live In Texas. I always wondered what he meant. I thought it was a word. I found Bored on RUclips and kinda liked it. Next day surprisingly enough my new friend at the time (first friend that loved Metal) tells me to check out Bored. Such a coincidence. Fast forward a few years and I bought all their albums and intend on collecting some EPs, singles, DVDs soon.
I've been listening to Deftones for 15 years, but somehow I never discovered what a great interview subject Stef is. He's got a very inspiring perspective on life!
Probably one of the most insightful interview / commentary made by a musician or rock musician ever made. He's lucid and makes some great points, his insight into the music industry and about the art of making music and how the taste-makers in the industry manipulate you is profound and second to none. He makes total sense! What a life, what a guitarist! Long live the Deftones.
I love the Bob Ezrin demos. I feel like stef was writing some really sonically intricate chord progressions. Really unusual and original riffs. I wish they had made a second disc for SNW with his songs that they scrapped. His playing inspires me to play guitar so much. Drop F# is my favorite tuning to play in.
The Bob Ezrin demo collection is amazing. I actually like that version of 'Combat' more than the one that is on the final album, although the final album version is still really good. Fuckin' hell man, Deftones were just always amazing. Not a low point in their career, to me.
28 mins on basically, introspection and how nothing really matters as long as you enjoy yourself. definitely one of the musicians who inspires me the most
Step has to be one of the most optimist and chillest guys out there. He just want to have fun, enjoy his time doing music but more important, enjoy it with his friends and band colleagues. He's not for the glory or accolades, just doing whatever sound cool to his ears, and he's not dissapoint yet so keep that up lovely guy! 👏👏
My all time favorite band...why? I met steph and chino in Seattle when they were touring. even though they were traveling all night and very tired, they still took time to meet the fans at a record store. they were very cool, signed autographs and took pics with the fans. I dont normally buy music but I made sure to buy their music out of respect for them. now that I saw this vid I have even more respect for the band.
Uh, yeah, it is my perspective that Steph, got said interviewer, completely and totall stoned. Therefore it is MY PERSPECTIVE that the interviewer was completely outclassed by him. Truely showed exactly how unprepared the interviewer was and Steph was on to him. So he essentially conducted his own interview. If it were me, I would have been calling him out, but Steph is too cool for that. I wish I could have a real life conversation with him, and of course to Jam!
5:06 ... I'll be honest I illegally downloaded Koi No Yokan back in December. I heard and read a lot of positive things about that album, I had to check it out. I seriously loved it 10/10. This year I decided to buy a copy of it, and I went back and listened to their other albums Diamond Eyes, White Pony, Saturday Night Wrist, pretty much everything. great band now one of my favorites!
I'm here killing myself because I left Wembley on June 3rd 20 minutes before they came out. I waited 7 years to see them for the first time just to leave because I'd miss the last train. And I feel I kinda let myself be convinced by people there I left with that we should just go.
True music fans still buy records..the bar has just been raised as far as whats worth buying versus what deserves a free download..I've bought all deftness records probably twice each
This is all assuming that smoking marijuana makes you a bad guy. I mean at the end of the day the only laws you should have to follow are the ones put in place by natural order and there really aren't that many. The guy loves his nature. You shouldn't have to point out that he "may have some here and there," (HUGE understatement) to display how truly admirable he is just because you can look past it. The man's a legend and no amount of drug use could tarnish that title.
If you could be as high as Stephen you would start jamming putting together some badass chill songs... then youd form a band and start touring kicking ass along the way.
Thanks for responding but did you have some sort of problem with my comment... I just came back to this video to see that my comment received too many negative votes... what gives? I don't get what was wrong with my comment. Please clarify... I wonder if it would effect illegal downloading music if it did more directly effect the artist and the fans knew it... out of respect. Just saying...
stephen is actually a pretty cool guy. watching him during live shows you don't really see that, partially cuz his hair is always blocking his face lmao
I bought the album white pony on a whim and have been a fan since. I buy their albums but still, I download music of other artists that I would never buy their albums. im not going to buy an album that i only listen to a couple of songs. that's a waste of money. So since I wouldn't buy the album anyway, I am stealing nothing from the artists. piracy is the biggest joke on the planet.
It is very easy for an established artist to say I don't care about people downloading for free, It has effected Artists along the way that are trying to get out there for sure. It is his perspective at this point in his career. Watching a TV can not compare to feeling the energy of a Live show "EVER" so I do not see that happening. Thanks for watching.
I illegally download the Deftones WHOLE library and I don’t give a fuck bc when my Deftones cd’s breaks I feel like the law needs to be broken thug life
I wonder if what Stef really wanted to say was, "I don't care if people illegally downloads my music because that's not money out of MY pocket... it's money out of the record companies pocket!! I make my money off of touring, and when they develop a way to illegally download a great full concert experience, then we will have a problem!"
I just give as much money as I can to Deftones. Most other bands Ill just steal their shit. Mostly because I wouldn't have bought it anyways so Im technically making them lose out on money they would have never had to begin with.
why be against people smoking a plant from the ground? It's a natural right in my opinion. If it comes from the Earth it should be free to use for all of mankind. Doesn't mean you have to smoke it but it's ridiculous to keep it illegal
"I'm not much of a drinker" aka "i blaze hard af'
He is high a kyte!!!! Love this guy and had the pleasure of meeting and hangin out with him. Super humble and genuine human being! =)

Chino didn't get along with Bob Ezrin. I agree with you about the demos. They were beautiful.
Such a cool dude
So awesome to have Steph speak his thoughts. Often times it's always Chino getting the spotlight. Thanks for this.

Real artists promote distribution of the art regardless of whether or not they can afford to contribute currency to the industry. Fuck yea Stephen!

His side project Kush... they need to release the album....
His lack of sentimentality about gear is liberating.

How dare you download the album illegally.. J.k! It's all good, i just bought my copy of Koi No Yoakn last month. Great fuckin' album!!
why be against people smoking a plant from the ground? It's a natural right in my opinion. If it comes from the Earth it should be free to use for all of mankind. Doesn't mean you have to smoke it but it's ridiculous to keep it illegal
Deeken Wheeler everything comes from the earth. From vodka to cocaine
the interviewer has no humor whatsoever
