    DeepSeek's new artificial intelligence (AI) model has rattled the market earlier this week as investors weigh what the breakthrough means for the AI landscape and Big Tech companies spending billions on the tech.
    D.A. Davidson research analyst Alex Platt joins Seana Smith and Brad Smith on Morning Brief to break down how the DeepSeek news could be pivotal for the AI market.
    Platt compares DeepSeek's work to the late Roger Bannister, who ran the first sub-four-minute mile: "Prior to Roger Bannister doing [it], it was thought as impossible to go under four minutes. He breaks it, and right afterward you see a bunch of runners be able to run now sub four minutes. DeepSeek did something very similar to the market."
    "The prevailing narrative in the market up until about a week ago was that in order to compete at the frontier model game, you needed to be an OpenAI, an Anthropic, a [DeepMind], a Meta (META), an xAI [with] tens of billions of dollars of excess capital in order to build a model that powerful."
    "DeepSeek showed us you don't need that much money. They could do it with $5.5 million for training. They could deliver at a much lower cost," Platt explains."And the best part is they really gave the rest of the space their playbook, how to replicate what they've done, how to make a model that is computationally efficient, and what this really does is it'll increase competition in the space."

      Not even that, but the developer API is 25x to 40x less than OpenAI.
      All that needs to happen is some kind of small american startup with a few million in capital to innovate on top of Deepseek and offer the API at an even lower rate.
      I think the tech market is going to start pulling funds.

      Spoken like someone unfamiliar with the AI space. As someone who has worked with 8 Chinese homegrown AI models released commercially, I'm fairly certain that "free" usages is only temporary. When market saturation reached, a pricing plan will be released. They gotta make money somehow. That said, the open source aspect is commendable.

    AI stocks will dominate 2025 and Why I prefer NVIDIA is that they are better placed to maintain long term growth potential, and provide a platform for other AI companies. I know someone who has made more than 200% from NVIDIA. I'll also take these other recommendations you made

      @@MrJermson Hilarious. What you said is like saying why go to college when I already have a middle school diploma. You are assuming we are at the finish line. This is not the finish line. The world expects AI to reach height way father ahead than today's chat bot. The billions is an investment into the next levels.

  • @GordonMcWilliams
    @GordonMcWilliams 7 дней назад +6

    I think the bigger question is how secure is OpenAI at this rate of loss even at conservative estimates, and how many startups operating on a few million bucks can threaten them with a more efficient model for less

    • @MrJermson
      @MrJermson 7 дней назад +1

      Spending billions on a product that can be easily copied is the dumbest thing ever in human history.

    • @GordonMcWilliams
      @GordonMcWilliams 7 дней назад +1

      @ Yeah it appears all of that investment just became debt. The fact that Deepseek used output from the GPT4 architecture (and many other models), means there are probably hundreds of small firms doing even more of it. We're about to have a bigger AI explosion and MAG7 might have lost out big time.
      I am wondering if the $500bn from Trump will even go through anymore. I wonder what this means for their valuation. Lots of questions to ask.
