It took much more to develop DeepSeek. What you are referring to was just the training time and cost of the newest model. Moreover, mind you that the DeepSeek model is also based on the Transformer architecture that Google developed and published in 2017. OpenAI's 2019 GPT-2 model was also still open source. Don't be naive and think that DeepSeek and Chinese companies will continue to open source all their cutting edge developments. The recent hype brought them radar for many potential costumers.

China does not stand with Palestine. The government is very careful about that. They call peace and ceasefire that’s all. I believe most Chinese people have sympathy for Palestine, but sending troops to help them sounds very imperialism. They did that during the Korean War and the Vietnam war, and look how they turned out.

It is really not that hard to understand why Chinese AI is a lot cheaper, and more effective, at least, in the Chinese language domain. Chinese researchers and engineers focus on model and logic backed up by vast amounts of data collected by many big companies like Tencent. Alibaba, Xiaomi, etc, while the U.S. counterparts rely heavily on chips capacity and capabilities for computing. There is far more human intelligence involved in Deep Seek than ChatGTP. Human intelligence is lot cheaper and efficient and effective than hardware. The Western media pretend not to understand this simple fact because they don’t know how to compete with China and they don’t know how to deal with the consequences in the human intelligence domain. Cooperation with China is the only viable option for the U.S., so that the U.S. knows a lot more about what China is doing, and vice versa, for a better world.

1. You don't need expensive GPUs to make a carnival show chat bot like GPT5.
2. Once someone does all the heavy lifting of training a model, you can retrain a parallel model cheaply by asking the original model lots of questions.
More? How to is these techniques to make a novel model for use with science and technology? It's one thing to make a model that basically gives answers a person could reason out with a couple minutes of googlng, it's another to come up with a model that can learn new things... for that, i expect we still need lots of high powered chips...
