    I just really hope the next system is a hybrid console as well. I still play docked and handheld. In fact, its kinda hard going back to older systems that I can't just take with me, or at the least put in sleep mode to start and stop whenever I want. And if the next system is backwards compatible, even better!

    • @animeartist888
      @animeartist888 Год назад +27

      This is honestly my biggest want as well. It's really nice to be able to use the same console for couch gaming (or something more active on the TV) and also carry it around on vacations as a handheld. No more wishing I could be playing my new console game when I'm away for a week- I still can! Second biggest hope is that performance is better. I don't mind the graphics not being up to snuff, but they're only allowed to be that way when they perform better due to the lower spec. If you can't give me a stable 30fps just walking around the world, I don't want to play that game on switch. I actually have gone out of my way to get games elsewhere several times because of performance complaints.

    • @ADreamingTraveler

      If they don't make this new system a hybrid then they actually have some real buffoons working at that company. People also don't realize we still have not seen Nintendo release a new console that wasn't made with Iwata's involvement. • @nutleyoleo
      @nutleyoleo Год назад +47

      Imo, it's because of the catalogue. The big system sellers were Mario and Zelda 6 years ago.
      Since then, there's been an overwhelming number of underpowered ports, mobile games, general shovelware, and unimpressive first party games (like Party, Tennis, Strikers, etc). The glaring hardware issues only made it age faster.
      I've never seen a console have such a strong launch followed by such a disappointing lifespan.

Wether its going to the toilet, or using it to watch youtube or anime while I cook food, or taking it on a family road trip, I think i take for granted how convient it is to be able to just pick it up and go. • @Cheesehead302
      @Cheesehead302 Год назад +9

      @@HenyaStudent I think Nintendo needs to take a long look at why this gimmick works so well for most people over weird controller peripherals. It feels like the "gimmick" meshes seamlessly with the system, and it is a method of playing the games that isn't completely dependent on a control scheme someone may or may not like. Variable frame rate withstanding, when you take the system out of the dock, for the most part it is exactly the same as playing the game on the TV. Combine that with the fact that the process of switching from one mode to the other is seamless and really works flawlessly, and you have something that isn't an annoying gimmick but actually enhances your play experience. It's designed for convenience, not clunkiness.

    I'm old so it seems like just yesterday the Switch arrived. Heck, to me it still feels like it was _recently_ that I rediscovered gaming in 2011 after having spent 1 1/2 decades out of touch after I lost interest in the late 90s after having been an NES and SNES fanatic in my youth. Also being an avid RUclips content consumer since its inception, it's been pretty cool witnessing how it went from essentially no one but GameXplain focusing on Nintendo to the amount of channels there are now.

    I have to agree with you, Arlo. The first 2-3 years of the Switch were great and I was blown away by the system and the games we were getting. Now, after 6 years on the market, that excitement has died down and it's no longer the main talk of the town like it used to be. It's really showing its age and is soon about to enter its twilight phase, given the few AAA games being released for it anymore and the slowing of support for certain games on the system.
    I'm guessing that, either later this year or early next year, Nintendo will reveal their next system and successor to the Switch and release it in the holiday season of 2024. It will be a whole new system with more power, but still carry on the legacy and main features of the Switch.

    For me the Steam Deck is what has really put the nail in the coffin for my hype around the Switch. The Switch used to be my go-to platform for any type of game ; first party, indie, and even some third party AAA games. The convenience of being able to play my games handheld and docked was worth the lowered graphics and framerate and even being locked in the Nintendo closed ecosystem, I had much more value buying my games on the Switch than on PC. But ever since I got my Steam Deck, I barely even play my Switch anymore, except for Nintendo games.
    And it's not even the upgraded hardware with better performances that convinced me, it's the game preservation perspective. I'm much more confident spending time into a game on a system I know I'll have full control over my save file, including a free backup on Valve's server, than into a console for which I could lose my save file anytime unless I'm willing to pay a monthly fee to Nintendo. Especially since we still don't know if Nintendo's next console will offer backward compatibility or if it will make my whole game catalogue irrelevant for the next generation. I can't say I have any confidence in Nintendo when it comes to games preservation, whereas the Steam Deck embeds game preservation *into its design*.
    I'll still use my Switch for the few Nintendo games that still have yet to come out, which at this point I only really have my eyes on Advance Wars, TotK, and Professor Layton, but in my opinion Valve have put a final blow in whatever momentum the Switch still had, and I don't know it Nintendo's next console will manage to revive my excitement unless they drastically change their position on game preservation, which is a complete deal-breaker for me that I only really accepted to close my eyes on until now because of the unique hybrid nature the Switch had.

    As much as I love the Switch, I really hope its successor leans a bit more into the 3DS and Wii U. I miss the friendly UI, the 3DS's Customizability, the feel of a sort of hub that the Wii invented with an internet browser and plenty of utility apps, every bit of it was oozing with personality. The Switch feels more like a gaming tool than a console.

    Honestly, I am ready to put the switch to rest soon. I have a lot of sentimental value attached to my swtich. I got it back in my freshman year of high school. I moved to a different state that year and didn't have any super close friends for a while, but the switch got me through it. I eventually made new friends, moved my way all the way through high school, graduated and entered college. I have been doing all that for 2 years now although I was doing online and I am planning to start going on-campus next semester. And the switch has been there for all of that. And this sounds kind of cringy but I feel like moving on from it will be putting behind one of the last pieces of my adolescene behind as I move further into adulthood.

Much like the DS, I imagine we’ll get a 3DS style switch - still compatible with DS games and the same capabilities, but with a lot more power and significantly better features. Agree that the Switch is an aging hardware but in terms of its portability, I still think it's useful. Definetely one of the best parts of the switch is its versatility. It's very different to the Wii U in that regard, because the gamepad felt like a gimmick, but the switch's primary feature feels like less of a peripheral and more of a useful thing that could be used on a daily basis. Even thought I have the switch docked a lot of the time, I can't lie that there have been times where going handheld was very useful. Plus, it does satisfy the occasional on the go gaming craving.
