I was riveted by Us until about the halfway point, and then it felt like he completely trashed everything he’d been doing to instead explain in excruciating detail why he filmed that creepy long shot of the rabbits in the intro. It was so disjointed. If you still haven’t seen Nope, though, I would highly recommend that. I enjoyed it! The themes were much easier to follow and stayed consistent the whole way through

To be fair on that one, Lovecraft didn't name the cat, his father did, Lovecraft only didn't want to change it's name because it was an old cat and figured it'd be cruel to make an elderly cat internalize a new name so late in it's life.

seriously dad lore goes absolutely insane. friends’ dads and my dad have some crazy lore. i shit you not, there is arson, literal railguns (engineer things apparently), being attacked by rabid moose and got it on video, building an industrial donut factory, etc. dad lore really does go insane.
