LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - People are still talking about Tuesday night’s sold out Kentucky Rising concert. The show was headlined by Johnson County native Chris Stapleton and featured fellow eastern Kentuckians Dwight Yoakam and Tyler Childers. It was organized by Stapleton after the July floods. Eastern Kentucky artists Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless made surprise appearances. “Thanks for coming out tonight for a good cause, help some folks out that need some help,” Stapleton told the crowd of more than 13,000. “That’s what we do here in Kentucky. It’s a wonderful feeling, people doing good things for good reasons.” (source: www.wkyt.com/2022/10/13/it-was-just-emotional-kentucky-rising-raises-more-than-25-million-flood-relief/)

YES IT IS!! 💜 ❤️ 💜 ❤️ 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👍 👍 👍
She’s not?!!! Well that’s one of Nashville’s greatest sins then.
It’s a damn shame , I live in ky and am very proud to share these same woods with all the ky legends!!! It will happen
glenn212now you are absolutely right!!! 💯 million percent PURE TRUTH 🙏👍💞🤗💞
She's not in there?!?! That's a travesty. She should 100% be in there. Hopefully, one day.
The world NEEDS more Patty Loveless singing live!!!!
The way Morgane looks at Patty is awestruck and how blessed she is to be there with her ❤
Amen
Show me anyone else, I mean ANYONE, that can sing just as good (if not better) than they did 30 yrs ago. Thank you Chris for bringing this gift back to us. ❤
Patty never left her bluegrass roots, and it's kept her evergreen in the hearts of country people. God bless you, Patty; I hope you sing forever.
I'm not even from Kentucky but this version always gives me chills.
Must be because I really did marry a coal miner's daughter......can't seem to get the West Virginia out of her. 😄
This is an easy thing for Chris because he is such a high quality musician that he can call legends to sing with him
Man, no body can sing like Patty! Miss you girl!! ❤️❤️
Great job getting her out of hiding Chris, we all missed her! She still looks and sounds as great as she always has and looked so happy and honored to be there. Good for you Patty!
Today she would be considered too country for country music, but she can out sing any artist today country or otherwise. What a strong, powerful & pure voice. And “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” is my favorite song of hers.
One of the top three greatest country songs ever imo. Patty's version is the best.
Great performance that's real country
This song was actually written by Darrell Scott. Every time I listen to Darrell’s original version on record or anytime I hear him singing it live in concert always reminds me that often times, the most soulful and “best” version often comes from the original songwriter as it came from their heart and in the case of this song, from Darrell’s family’s history who came from Harlan County. I highly recommend looking up Darrell Scott to hear his version and to discover his other great songs some of which you may have heard (It’s a Great Day To Be Alive, Long Time Gone, When there’s no one around to name just a few)
Definitely the highlight of the night. Patty sounded better than ever. Unbelievable.
My Dad's Family came from Eolia Kentucky , they moved from there across the line into Wise Co. Va. , as I grew up Coal Mining was in my Blood. After High School I went to work in the mines in Pound Va., all of my Uncles worked for Coal Companies, black lung and rock dust lung took their lives . I got out of the mines when the Coal companies started closing down, now living in North Carolina disabled from working in the textile mills I still miss the Coal Mining you can say Coal runs in my veins.
She is in the Country Music Hall of Fame

Is it just me love you Amy but before that hòo always thought Pattie and Vince would have been a match in country harmony heavan😊❤❤❤❤
She has been the sound of eastern Kentucky for almost all of my life. So good to hear her perform with Chris and Morgan.
This song is right there with John Anderson's Seminole Wind as THE TRUTH about corporations ruining American lives.
Absolutely!!
The best
This song is close to❤ Lord. My grampa Vanderpools daddy was a coal miner down in Ky
chris never forgot were he came from and the people!! Chris truly is a great man
Wow so good and she still sounds great.
So beautiful❤
If there ever was an Angel on earth Patty is that Angel.
I just want Patty to never get old.
This is just Awsome!!!!!So glad to see Patty Loveless!!!!!💝💯👏

This song reminds me of my African West Indian American Great Uncles of Statesboro GA, the old stories and moonshine❤️🙏🏾😇🤠💐😌😇💕💕❤️
That was the best of the awards ❤
Great song. Ty all!
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song! Hello
Every time that woman steps up to a microphone I know I better reach for the tissues.
Wow.
Icon
Thank you Chris for bringing Patty back to all who love her and her great voice! ❤
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song! Hello
She never left us !!!!
And everything else that just made this happen!
I've said since the 80's that this lady is the most underrated voice in country music. That stands true today.
Absolutely!!
Yes she is
Love Morgane
Absolutely❤.. and I love the was Chris humbly steps back to give her, her well deserved dues
A masterclass on how real country music is meant to be played. No posing or flash, just pure passion and talent.
Amen!
She is COUNTRY. And it comes out in her voice. In her attitude. In her humbleness despite being a massive voice in the world of American musice
Very humble😊
I love the way Chris’s wife looks so in awe at Patty singing true respect!
She raised her hands like she was singing a praise and worship song ✋
The three part harmony is instant chemistry.
His wife is some kind of a singer in her own right! I like her as well as I like her hubs.
And she doesn’t even know how powerful she is herself! I loveee this
@@Ssstinkerbell1 she doesn’t even know how magical and powerful she is herself ! I’m ready for the world to know Morgane stapleton
Patty Loveless…that’s country music royalty right there.
Patty, you are the sound of Appalachia! The words of this song and the sound of your voice literally painted the picture of this song
and it’s story. Your duet with Vince Gill on Go Rest High was also unmatched! I’ve visited Kentucky and the people there are as real as you are!
Especially at the show after George jomes died. She covered Vince like a pro and without missing a beat.
As an Eastern Kentucky native and someone who comes from 4 generations of coal miners, this song always gives me chills
Second generation coal miner in Virginia though 10 miles from Harlan in linden va umwa local 1607
@@larryholle7971 I'm a native of Letcher County Kentucky

Patty Loveless is just incredible. Aging gracefully, still beautiful and a voice that just gets better with age, like fine wine.
I just love Chris and his wife, and even more that they recognize Patty's contribution to Country and the respect for her anazing vocal stryle and emotion. She is still a gifted and amazing artist.
Just when u think he can't do anything any bigger....he gets the queen. Never had chills like this. Thank u so much for this
Her music touches my soul and brings tears to my eyes. Always has. Thank you Chris for bring this Country Icon back to the stage.
She has the same effect on me. Love her singing.
I’m with ya!
Lord yes
God blessPatty Loveless! The coal miners she sings about were real people who were little more than indentured servants, They worked in the mines, lived in mine company owned housing, and were paid in script that was only redeemable at the company store. My grandfather was a coal miner in West Virginia. He told me about lying on his back while picking at coal above his head only to occasionally dig into a methane gas pocket that would be set ablaze by the carbide lamp on his helmet. He left the mines and later succumbed to black lung. And, yes, this was in the United States of America in the 20th century. We cannot imagine such things today, but if we look to the forgotten coal country of Appalachia today, we will find abandoned towns, endemic and wide spread unemployment and poverty. Millions suffer today due to the utter disregard for human life by King Coal.
thank you for this informative post.
One of the best country female singers of all time!
Top ten of any singers, not just female.
She’s the real queen
@@bertblue9683 yes! Male or female, Patty can’t be beat
Agreed! Patties voice is just so damn natural.
Absolutely
Patty is an incredible talent, that voice is just as strong and perfect as ever. Love you miss Patty! Best wishes Kentucky from Bangor Maine.
I’m from Maine to! And I love them both!
Strong as ever
Patty Loveless is one of the BEST country music singers we have ever had!
yep she is.
This was just a masterpiece of song and emotion. Please accept my thanks for posting this
Simple and to the point. Patty's beauty shines. Country music needs a lot more of simple and to the point. Her voice and emotion still still brings the songs to life. This world needs more of the salt of earth people like her. She's humble and has no ego about her. When artist allow the music to take center stage magic happens. She's one of a kind.
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song! Hello
She is legend & her voice hasn't changed at all & the heart she puts into the song brings it alive. You're right about letting the music not musician taking center stage. It is truly magical
Too many don't have enough talent to sing without frills & staging. Very few greats anymore- just lots of pop junk.
So well said. Thank you
@@diannebraunlich8342 how long have you been listening to my songs
Man! That woman has soul. Most of us never find the thing we’re that good at, and even those who do find their own genius don’t usually hold onto it that long.
Beautifully said.
Amen
If this song don't give you chills you must not have a heart, hauntingly beautiful. Me and most of my family are from Eastern Kentucky. We know exactly what these words mean from experience.
When I was a teenager, back in the ‘80s, I worked for an older man in my community, hauling hay and chopping tobacco. He told me once that he was glad when World War II started, because the Army was easier than working in the coal mines over in Hazard. He served in combat in the Pacific, if that gives you any idea.
I just heard this song for the first time tonight on the CMAs. Patty's voice in that performance literally stopped me in my tracks as I was walking past the TV and drew me in. I couldn't move until this hauntingly beautiful song was done and I immediately went to search online which lead me here. Amazing.
That was a good performance, but this one is really more about Patty. The CMA song featured Chris too, who I also like. But this is a showcase for Patty.
The same thing happened to me and I'm so glad I did because I can't stop listening to it 💗
@@Happykarla4000 truly amazing
@@csmith5420 true
The first time I heard this song was on one of Brad Paisley's albums. His is good as well, but Patty singing this is hauntingly beautiful. She never got the recognition that she rightly deserves!!!
Dang, I'm balling my eyes out, what an emotional song. Whether coal mines, cotton fields, cotton mills, this brings to mind my grand parents and Greats. Hard working folks who did whatever necessary to take care of their families.
Amen
Amen
We still do. Keeps the lights on in our great towns. Coal lives
She hops off the couch and within an hours time put a glimmer of hope back into country music.. long live my queen of country music
One of the top 5 moments of country music this year.
So wonderful to hear Patty again. Sure miss her. Still gives me chills everytime I hear her sing this.
Her voice calls you home from where ever you’ve wandered.
God knows that’s true.
You’re exactly right!!!
Yel
all i can say to that is ... amen.
Amen.

Eastern Kentucky here, I’m a coal miners daughter, granddaughter, sister and wife, proud of my coal miners 🖤🪨
Sweet Baby Jesus! Thank you and your brethren for your hard work
Okay, this got me. I cried dang near through the whole thing. What a heart felt performance. Patty Loveless is my favorite female country star. Chris Stapleton is so admirable for carrying the flame for these country icons.
A magical voice!! Wow, I still get chills all these years later
I love this woman!! She is so gracious and loving towards all those that she sings with and sings solo as well or better than many others!! She has actually lived with this entire country group and the grand old opry all of her life! She needs to be inducted into the country music hall of fame now!!
how long have you been listening to my Songs
About 1 year now and thank you for bringing patty back she is the very best in harmony with everyone good to hear you again ❤
Sing it Patty😊😊😊. Shivers all down my back, miss your singing girl. Come back and sooth our hearts hear in Kentucky. New album🙏🙏🙏🙏
The best female country singer ever. None can touch you, Patty!
True that Chris Stapleton. ❝ She's one of the greatest country music singers that has ever lived or ever will live. ❞ Thank you Chris!
I have missed Patty Loveless so much the last few years. I am so glad to to be able to see this video. Thanks for sharing. I hope she will return to the stage to sing more often. Have loved her music for many years.
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song! Hello
This might be the closest, you’ll ever get to Country Music Church. You wont find this in a bible…But it lives in your minds and hearts.
I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina listening to this music. It’s our dna and it’ll never change.
Beautifully said ❤️
I like that ❤
@@mamabeartrue420 you don’t have to live in eastern Kentucky, to love Beautiful souls.
@@PRIMOCOBRA ? I don't live in eastern Kentucky.
Two of my all time favorites on the same stage! Wow, just Wow
Darrell Scott never gets his due credit. Beautiful version. Everyone go give DS some love.
Right on, Darrell is a class act.
I don't want to offend anybody but Patty Loveless is Country Music. There's some out there who could be a true country singer... Patty has recorded 2 different albums featuring music like Harlan.. These songs will never be played on radio but a gift from Patty to her die hard fans. Patty, all those people who were cheering for you was overdue. Thank you.
Patty loveless is an angel and still sounds as good as she always has. Makes me proud to be from Kentucky.
Sheesh….Who don’t love Patty in her true element? Very nice and Morgan’s back vocals were really good.
I went back in time and listened to Patty sing so many songs.... Her voice, her delivery, and her soul ... have gotten NOTHING but BETTER with time ! DAMN this woman has such amazing SOUL ..... Thank you Chris and Morgane !
That's what I thought. It sounds exactly the same as 40 years ago
I love every second of it but watching Morgan next to Patty and the looks she gives her… absolute adoration ❤
When she sings the line, ". . . where you spend your days digging coal out the bottom of your grave . . ." makes my arm & neck hair stand on end every time.
Love this! She is one of the greats.
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song! Hello
I was born and raised in Harlan, KY. I met Patti at the 1986 Telluride BGF where I first saw her do that song. I’m a reasonably smart and articulate man, but words cannot describe the emotions when I hear that song.
You don't need to be ashamed of being articulate
I can’t believe how good she sounds. She’s been so missed. I’ll happily start the petition for a Stapleton/Loveless collaboration album
So proud to have lived 68 years in Harlan KY … this was the very best 👍❤️🇺🇸
How this woman is not in the hall of fame is nothing but a damn shame
Chills and tears. Coal miner's daughter here. Lost two uncles in the mines. The miners and their families paid dear prices for the coal companies to live richly. Sad sad. Patty Loveless is a treasure! Love the Stapletons too!
With Ms. Loretta gone Patty is the new Kentucky Queen
Have always loved Patty Loveless, one of the best! Her voice is still so beautiful.
If this doesn’t stir your soul your not alive
I love Patty and her clear strong voice. She does this song best; part of her youth. Waldoboro, Maine. My Great Grandfather died in the mines of Western Pennsylvania.
Actually she didn't write this song and it's not about her family, it was written by Darrell Scott and is about his family history.
Thanks. I knew she didn’t write it.
@@DanPurdy1 But you said "part of her youth " it has absolutely nothing to do with her youth other than she grew up in Eastern Kentucky.
Patty’s father and grandfather were both coal miners and Patty’s dad died from black lung disease as as result of mining. Even though Darrell Scott wrote it, Patty lived every bit of this song as a coal miner’s daughter. That’s why she sings it with such beautiful heartfelt emotion. Darrel Scott gave Patty his blessing to change the words in the song to fit her family history and Darrell played banjo on Patty’s version.
I am from Maine to!
One of my favorite Patty tunes. Absolutely as soulful as anything ever sang! Being from the Appalachian Mountains this song resonates with me. Such a dichotomy, I couldn’t wait to move away and can’t wait to get back. Been a lifetime struggle.
When Patty sings this Darryl Scott tune i get a lump in my throat.
I love how the simple act of singing has so much power. Never underestimate it. It binds us, and moves us through our days.
My grandfather worked for Harlan Coal. Lived and died in Harlan.
That is Greatness!!! I love this so much❤
Who ever said you don't get better with age should hear this woman. Slwsys loved her always will.
retired from the mines and this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it and nobody sings it better than patty, a true gem.
God bless you, and the country owes a huge thank you. Patty Loveless Kentucky proud.
Job well done! Thank you ❤️
A huge thank you and bless you🙏🤲💜
Thank you
I've been in love with her voice since the late 80s. She is a Kentucky legend and a national treasure. There are a few others that I hold as KY legends, unfortunately Nashville doesn't play their music. Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson
PHENOMENAL Patty’s voice is Excellent LOVE💯% What a performance and the Grammy Goes to Patty 🙏🏼
There has never been a more country music song made or sung then this.
