His vision was a one of a kind. When a designer dies, and the house continues with the work, it is simply not the same. He was envied by some designers as well. His shows we're unparalleled and works of art like his clothes.
I went to see this film today. Very very well produced. Great footage and the right input from the right people we needed to hear from. I am not ashamed to say it put me in a melancholic mood for the rest of the day and when I got home I cried about it all. I never met the man but like many people, he touched me. I aways wrestled with how I thought was more important, John Galliano or McQueen. McQueen won in my eyes. I was also born in the same year and one can not help but look back on his life without looking to my own. I recommend anyone who is aware of his talent to go out and watch this film on the big screen. Rest in peace Lee x x

Alexander McQueen was sexually abused by his sister's husband when he was 9 years old he only told her about it 4 years before his death, he even witnessed many times his sister being physically abused by her husband so much that she had miscarried twice, his longtime friend in fashion committed suicide, all that affected him alot mentally, it reflected in his works for which he faced heavy criticism, add that and drugs taken to cope and multiple suicide attempts which none of his family knew only the ppl he closely worked with, made him a sad, confused, miserable and lonely person. RIP Alexander Mcqueen. I really want to know what happened to that asshole- his sister's husband who abused him. Mcqueen is the reason I want to pursue fashion. His work was so meaningful and I feel like someone should bring that to the runway again. Most designers now care only about money. He wanted to make an impact on people.
ah, I see what you are saying, you are meaning 2010 itself not the 2010's decade. Regardless he died in the second month of that year. No collections have been that exciting at all since prob 2013 or so. Dolce went from dramatic baroque with the first couple of those collections (the black and gold and then the red lace) and then turned into kitsch. Mcqueen today is a snoozefest. Hell, some of Valentino's designs in recent memory have been more impactful than what Sarah has done with mcqueen...not to mention Schiaparelli's return, etc.
Best designer on the planet. The more I learn about Alexander McQueen, the more I see why I love his art so much. I relate to him and the darkness he reflected through those stunning clothes.
I am not a movie person, at all. I do have favorite movies but almost none, if any had an emotional impact on me. But this documentary... I am still thinking about it days after. Brilliant movie! Simply an unforgettable experience that anyone with a slight interest in fashion should watch.
It was a pleasure to see this film, and seeing where my devotion from him came from. We had so many things in common. You're deeply missed, Mr. McQueen!
Our late Alexander McQueen was a Visionary and a Genius of his own class with... through the years he’s designs had evolved having such depths behind its theme and theatrical presentation and with such execution. As each collection strolls the runway each and every one of the pieces represents his visions through his life reflecting stories and futuristic concepts. His undeniable talent is a legacy that will exist with us through time. We love you AMQ 💋💋💋
I saw this last night before it left the theatre... Just an excellent movie! It felt like you were right there with him... Watching him create his masterful pieces/collection... May you R. I. P Alexander. C...

I saw Savage Beauty exhibit at the Met. Unforgettable. I reminisce by looking through the book I got then. He was one of a kind. Raw and unapologetic. My kind of art.
BeforeTheFlood Beffy The Best Designer ever was Versace. He was ahead of the game and made clothes loved by millions worldwide while McQueen made clothes that only a weirdo like Gaga could wear
Yeah, I know both are amazing designers but just in my taste, I prefer high fashion that expresses such uniqueness and imagination like McQueen made, even if it wasn't something any of us would wear. Simply, his designs were fun to look at.
BeforeTheFlood Beffy So according to you Mcqueen was the "best ever" only because his designs were fun to look? Gianni was so much more than that. Not only his designs were fun to look but they were mostly fun to wear. Thats what clothes are made for: To be WORN. His clothes made people look like celebrities, but most important people felt free to be themselves in his designs. He made women look beautiful, feminine but also extravagant, modern and sexy in the same time. His rule-breaking, his extravagance, his revolutionary style had significance, these werent there just to shock you visually; they were there to make people dream, to make them want to touch, have, wear his clothes, to feel its beauty and to let that beauty become a part of them. He made clothes that reflected energy, freshness, unusual class, elegance, color, beauty, and FREEDOM! Thats what a great designer is supposed to do: design clothes that make people want to wear them, in any time. When people see Gianni Versace's designs ,and also Donatella's, they are like : Oh my God I want to wear these clothes! When they see McQueen's however they are like : who the heck would wear this and why? McQueen was shock value, an entertainer more than a designer. A showman whose fashion walks look like satanic rituals with clothes no sane person would wear, and make up no woman would put on, unless its halloween season. So whats the purpose of it all then? If I want to be entertained, I go to a circus or a concert. If I want to wear clothes and feel beautiful, classy and special at the same time, I go to the House of Versace. p.s a pitty that with all the great designers that we have, dead or alive , who have dedicated their life to making beautiful clothes for millions of people worldwide, you and others in this video pick a shock value gimmick like McQueen as the "best ever" only because media has conditioned you to believe so. RIP Gianni Versace, a fashion KING, second to no one.
I mean, yes, if you base your opinion of fashion simply on how practical and wearable it is (all while being beautiful), then that's just your take on it as a whole. I, however, consider fashion to be art that leaves an impression on those who see it. As Lee said himself, "I don't want to do a show feeling like you just had Sunday brunch," which already differentiates himself from Versace, showing they obviously had very different goals when creating designs. Not only that, but because of the impracticality of many of his outfits, they heavily contrasted between a multitude of the other designers' creations in the industry. Though Versace created designs that were undoubtedly beautiful and wearable, Mcqueens work was truly the definition of High Fashion, and is something that is incomparable to pretty much any other designs in the industry. Also, just in my own opinion, Lee's designs had very unique shapes and messages, while Gianni's weren't that unique if you consider the general shape and design of gowns and other clothing pieces for his time. Apart from their clothes, Mcqueen was definitely more of a unique character which is part of the reason why people love him so much. But hey, these are just our personal opinions and tastes, which I fully respect.
