I just found your channel and this video gave me some good tips for caring for my Nelly Isler. It was in bloom when I purchased it a couple of months ago and did have a fragrance. I have to say though that I don’t really like it. Some people say it smells like lemons, I think it smells like the inside of an old steamer trunk! I’m glad the fragrance isn’t very strong. Thanks for the great tips, I’m going to purchase some of that Mycorrhizal fungi as this plant did not have very good roots when I purchased it. 🇨🇦 it’s a windy 10°c here in western Canada today so sitting inside watching orchids videos with a cup of coffee is a great way to spend some time.
I used to have one like that as a kid/teenager. Stuck around for five years. I never repotted it so it ultimately died. Now I know why haha. I really enjoyed the spicy scent
Hiya thanks for this 😊👍Interesting what you say about fragrance because my Nelly is one of my most fragrant orchids, more so than my miltoniopsis, (which also smells great BTW). I wonder if environment affects the scent. It would be interesting to find out. I'm UK based so cool temps and average 60% humidity in my grow area.
Thank you for making this video! Very informative I have 3 Nelly Islers but all 3 are doing terrible. 2 of the orchids got pseudobulbs rot and 1 got bud blast. It’s strange because I have a Miltoniopsis too but it’s doing just fine under my care. However, my Nelly’s for some reason just hate me. Anyway, what media do you have yours in?
Thanks for watching! Oh that's no good! My media is a mix of orchid bark + perlite + charcoal + half a teaspoon of shell grit + a tiny dusting of mycorrhizal fungi to promote root growth. Maybe they're over watered? And mine does have slightly less light than the Miltoniopsis. Good luck with them!
...and perhaps try a complete repot and check the roots - trimming off all dead ones and giving the remaining ones a Hydrogen Peroxide spray and reducing the pot size once you've done that and then a good liquid feed and then let it dry out a smidge.
Funny you should say that but I find that my miltoniopsis and my Nelly prefer completely different rooms in my house. Seen a lot of advice saying that you should treat your nelly like a miltoniopsis but I am finding that they don't need as much humidity and like more moisture in the medium rather than in the air.
Hi there, I bought mine as a no ID plant with a dead flower spike from Fitzroy Nursery in Melbourne so it was a fluke. I haven't seen them specifically being sold so my best suggestion would be to regularly search Ebay, or, like me, check out any local nurseries that have blooming 'Oncidiums' for sale and see if you can identify it. Good luck!
Thanks for watching! This particular one sits in a dish of pebbles which I put water into to create a mini humidifier. I also mist them every couple of days.
@@rubymahajan4235 Mine's in a pretty standard free draining orchid bark/perlite/charcoal mix. They don't like to be over potted so use a pot that only just fits the root system. Mine flowers once a year in late spring/early summer. And it's in a well lit area but not super bright all day. Good luck!

Thanks for finding me - enjoy the coffee!
My Nelly Isler, which I have had for around 8 years, smells beautifully and strongly, but only when exposed to fairly bright light.
Interesting! Thanks for watching!
My whole room smells during daytime when it is in bloom, although it not that strong as Miltoniopsis.
Such a lovely narration. Great video and fantastic tips. Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I just found your channel. I like your style.
Thanks for finding me!

Oh my, you just got my hopes up that I'll be able to rebloom my Nelly, which I lovingly call Thirsty B. ^^
Ha! Here's hoping! Slightly more light in winter also helps I found! Good luck!
I'm watching all videos that you've made beautiful flower

Early adopter!
I just bought a Francine Burr roseglow. Supposed to be a close relative of the Nelly . I hope it's as pretty. It's in spike
Oh I just googled it - very similar looking! They are VERY pretty. Good luck!

Thanks for watching Charlotte! How interesting! Mine is COMPLETELY scentless!!! Heigh ho. Could be environment? Disappointed of Melbourne!
Thank you for making this video! Very informative

Where in Australia can I purchase this orchid?
I am in Sydney and have been looking for a while….

How do you provide humidity around the plant

How much humidity do you provide to this plant.
Hi there - they like humidity! It sits in a dish of pebbles with water in it & I mist it.
@@helloplantlovers my plant is not doing anything. I have put it under humidity tray with pebbles . It sits outside under shade .
What media should I use. I have mine in bark only .
