bedardemidov!! demidov or lindstrom is the pick at #2 for the hawks. the hawks top d-pairing is vlasic and jones (signed for the next 6 years). plus kfc just took korch to be their future pp qb two drafts ago at #7. it would be a total brain fart to give up on him after just 1 season and change course/direction. the hawks problem is not their d-core. their scoring was historically bad last season. a top 6 forward is so much more of a need over a top 4 def. hawks can grab a rhd at #20 or in 2nd rd.

They were decimated by injuries including Bedard who missed six weeks, and his two favorite wingers who both missed most of the season.
Loook at Toronto, look at Edminton, two teams who flame out in the playoffs even though they have high powered forwards.
Whats missing? Shut down D men, the Hawks Had Keith, Seabrook. Hjalmarson, and Campbell or Oduya.
They don't win those cups without that defense.
They have a butt load of good, fast wingers in the pioeline that can shoot and dish.
Cornerstone D men are much harder to find.

Columbus will take Lindstrom at 4 and the Habs will probably take a D at 5, especially if Silayev is still on the board. Would be very surprised if Demidov drops out of the top 5.
The huge uncertainty on the top 10 is why teams won't bother trading up a few spots, there's going to be a good player available.

  • @Ulihernand32

Demidov would come over earlier to the NHL than Silayev. Silayev has 2 years left in Russia, Demidov 1 year left in Russia, but know one seems to take that into consideration apparently. I believe Ducks would like to speed up the rebuild asap. I think they’d take Demidov over silayev or take Levshunov depending on who Chicago picks.

You see the first four picks much the way I do. Celebrini first to the Sharks. Chicago will either take Demidov or Levshunov. If they take Demidov, Anaheim goes with Levshunov as I believe they made the Drysdale for Gauthier trade with the mindset they would draft a defenseman with their top 5 pick. That would leave Columbus with Lindstrom. If Chicago takes Levshunov, then Anaheim goes with Silayev and Columbus takes Demidov. Leaving Lindstrom for Montreal. Columbus currently has five Russians on the roster. They've had great success drafting them and bringing them over. They won't pass on Demidov if he's there.

@@James_Ford4815 I don't think they do pass when it comes down to it, but if they go for a future elite RD I won't criticize them either. If Demidov does slip to third it will be a bit of a dilemma for Verbeek. He isn't the type of player he goes for. Verbeek likes big two way players but the massive offensive potential Demidov has might be too much to pass up. For the Ducks, I really like Silayev though. He is the type of player that shuts down players like Demidov. The draft should be a fun one to watch, that's for sure.

Moving up will cost and we have lotsa' D and trading Roy is a loss so trade Matheson and keep Savard as our veteran. but a large forward seems likely. We have Suzuki at 210 lbs, Dach, Slav, and Armia on our fourth line. Priority is not size. A play driver like Catton would add more to the TEAM concept and a need for variety. Catton has it all and needs weight which is simple to solve. Catton pound for pound is the best forward in the draft and the play driver will add more to the TEAM. Size is easy to find but a solid play driver will win hockey games. Lafleur, Richard, etc were all under 6ft but were Giants and were play drivers. We cant pass up on this opportunity. Pick Catton!

Some key notes from Scott Powers Interview with Veteran KHL Scout on Ivan Demidov:
      • “He will definitely go overseas after next year. He’s told me that a number of times. He doesn’t want to prolong his contract.”
•“and I thought who’s better, Celebrini or Demidov? I think Demidov is better just in terms of his creativity, in terms of his skating, in terms of how he thinks the game.”
      • On Demidov’s size: “No, That’s wrong. I think he’s about 184 Centimetres or 6 Feet now, around that…. I think he’ll grow further too.”
      • “What impresses me about him is his personality. He’s a great guy; everyone loves him, in the locker room, he’s a true leader. He’s a guy who wants to do everything to get success in hockey.”
      • On comparisons with Levshunov: “He’s a pretty good player. But I think Demidov has more talent. He’s a guy who can do it all. If his shot can improve a bit, he’ll be a 50-goal forward, for sure.”

If Demidov was there at 6, Utah would take him. Armstrong loves Russians.

Demidov is great, but the Hawks neeeed a top right hand defenseman. Not always the best to draft based on need, but Levshunov is just as good as Demidov (imo)

Questionable if Levshunov is a #1 defenseman. If he was a slam dunk #1 then yes. If he’s a second pairing guy you can’t draft him ahead of Demidov

@@BedardsBurnerworst case for Levshunov would be number 2 Dman he's a stud but it's an hard pass to ignore Demidov who's close to Michkov in pure talent

More game iq than defense, his length and body size helps him break up plays easy but his defensive zone plays can get pretty awkward@@zackcohen7877

Bill Armstrong in Utah loves Russians, can't see them pass on Demidov but living near Seattle (Victoria BC) would love Demidov. 🏒🏒
