Abigail this was an extremely comforting comment to read. I am 18 years old and on Tuesday I graduated high school. I still love children’s books and collect toys of my favorite games or animated movies. Children’s books are the one thing that I look very fondly on, especially the books I can vividly remember my mom reading. Sometimes she will pull out one of our favorites and read it out loud to me. We will always be young at heart so long as you allow the magic of youth and it’s joys to flow within✨

Yes, book recommendations always a joy and a curiosity for me.... and welcomed. so many wonderful fabulous books to explore. I love and treasure reading and books.
Little Women. It’s so beautiful. Louisa May Alcott wrote about very important things in life. Every chapter I was learning something that I have kept with me all these years. Chapter XI: Experiments especially taught me something. If Little Women taught me anything it was to “Have regular hours for work and play, make each day both useful and pleasant, and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well. Then youth will be delightful, old age will bring few regrets, and life become a beautiful success, in spite of poverty.”
I’ve read and reread Little Women in different phases in my life, and love how I experience it differently each time based on my own new life experiences and perspectives. ❤
Little Women is the best book ever. I've read it a number of times in different seasons of life and it seems to have grown with me. Books have always been my best friends
I have always loved Frog and Toad. I’m 65yo and still read children’s books and love the children’s section of our local library. It’s the same library I used as a child, I will never forget the librarian, she road her bike to work, and always wore a dress. She gave her complete and full attention to any question asked.
My favorite librarian used to save books for me based on the ones I checked out. I stopped in the library nearly every single day. ❤ She was an elderly little lady and I was a young girl but we shared a love of books and she was a very special friend to me. ❤
My wife and I enjoy your videos very much. She is a retired early elementary teacher, and knew almost all your recomendations. I totally agree children's books, Paola. As a mental health therapist, I use all sorts of creative and folk ideas, folk stories are magical and speak to the psyche, children's books are just as valuable, parables, metaphors, etc. Thank you for tending to the Child Within and setting an example for us all. I relate to you and daydream we all had a community or a village where we could share in close mindedness 😊 that's the dreamer in me. Thank you for what you do!
Caps For Sale, Blueberries for Sal, Little House in the Big Woods, The Lion Witch and The Wardrobe, The Indian in the Cupborad and A Wrinkle in Time were absolutely my 5 children’s favorites. I read aloud to them even into their teen years (as a home schooling mom).
My mother read the whole Little House series to me and my sister one summer. She had a passion for the simple things in life. I loved horses so I read many books including The Black Stallion, Flicka, and Black Beauty.
I love the James Herriot stories. I just turned 68 and am a lifetime lover of books and reading. I look forward to looking up all these books you've recommended today, thank you!
Thank you so much, Paola, you have opened up a whole new world of delightful books! At 66, I haven't heard of most of those books. I grew up loving the Narnia series, but there's so much more out there. Now I start my childhood all over again. Blessings, beautiful. 🙏🥰
I too am a bookseller and lover of reading. I grew up with Frog and Toad and still find those books so charming. I am not a huge fiction reader, I confess, but now I am interested in Legends and Lattes. It is a very popular book in our store, but I had never considered it since the genre is not usually one I care for. I enjoy all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and I have also recently found a local author who writes about his childhood during the great depression. People had very little but were so thankful for what they did have and enjoyed such simple pleasures!! My most favorite fictional writer is Grace Livingston Hill...such wholesome stories about everyday life and she has the most charming way of describing homes and how her characters live life in their homes. Just love them!!! I have skimmed some of James Harriot's books and have enjoyed what I have read. I too enjoy children's books, or any book really, that has beautiful artwork in it. I often find myself wanting to buy a book simply for the beautiful cover! That's odd I know...but I just love beautiful things. I hope you continue to share your favorite reads from time to time!!!
Great recommendations! I have never forgotten the James Harriot story about the man no one wanted to be around because he constantly ate boiled eggs and passed horrible gas. . . but he has a dog that has no sense of smell.
While I'm not much of a reader these days, I enjoyed the enthusiasm and excitement that you showed for these books. Your love of books and stories is very apparent. I hope you do more of these videos!
If you're interested in books that honor the ordinary but still have some whimsy to them, I highly HIGHLY recommend the novel Mink River by Brian Doyle. It's about a fictional town on the coast of Oregon, and all its inhabitants (humans and animals alike). There's such an undercurrent of joy in Doyle's writing, and a genuine appreciation for every seemingly small good thing. I think you would enjoy it! 😊
I’m an inveterate reader and subscribe to the theory that if you’re a reader, you’ll never be bored! As an Elder, I love and often reread the original Nancy Drew mysteries or other books from my childhood such as Five Little Peppers and How They Grew. Or the All of a Kind Family series. Descriptions in these books of decor and home living, foods, early century entertainments are a fascinating read. In the adult nonfiction genre, I find inspiration and encouragement in Alexandra Stoddard’s books, in particular one of her earlier books, Creating A Beautiful Life. Reading other’s opinions on creating and appreciating your life and/or creating meaningful rituals always interests and inspires me.
Oh my goodness!! I have never run across another person who loved Alexandra Stoddard’s books!! The one you mentioned was my favorite too! I read through them many times in my 30s and 40s and much of my inspiration for my home came from these.
I would add the Invisible Life of Addie Larue. It really made me think about each day, savoring what life has to offer (both good and bad). Honestly, Ill be rereading it again in July with more annotations. "How does one walk to the end of the earth? One step at a time. How does one live forever? One day at a time" (paraphrased)
This brought back so many childhood memories, I absolutely loved all "The Borrowers" books and used to sneak a torch under my blankets at night to keep reading until past midnight on school nights!
Whenever I feel overwhelmed I always read valley of horses by Jean auel. It’s the sequel to clan of the cave bear and it set during the ice age. It’s all about gathering food, learning to make your own clothes, tools and just surviving. She lives alone and adopts baby animals for company. It’s a lovely story about survival and happiness in its purest form.
I couldn't agree more - once about every 1-2 years I read the entire series again, but I think The Valley of Horses is my favorite of all of them, though I also love The Mammmoth Hunters. Even Plains of Passage - I think my favorite parts of her books are the descriptions about day to day survival, though the story line and her character development are better than almost any fiction I've read.
Thanks so much for the book recommendations! One of my favorite children's books is one titled "Mandy." It was written by Julie Edwards, who is better known as Julie Andrews. This is about girl who runs away from where she's living to this little cottage in woods, where she diligently works hard to clean & restore the little place. When I was young, I would read this & my imagination would run WILD! For some reason, this book literally just came alive for me! The scenes in the story were all so vivid in my minds eye. Hope everone enjoys this book at least half as much as i did. There are others that she wrote either alone or with her daughter Jennifer Walton. Hapoy Reading! 🎉
4:04 When I was a kid, my grandma and I read pooh stories whenever I went over to her house--we still do when I visit her, it's a beloved tradition of ours Our favorite is "In which a search is organdized, and Piglet nearly meets the Heffalump again"; we can barely get through that one without losing our breath laughing
Keep recommending....my bookshelves are bursting with your reading suggestions.....especially anything written by Susan Wittig Albert! You just have no idea of how you have filled the shelves, and I LOVE them all~ Thank you 78 yrs and still reading~
You have some kind of bright light in your face when you talk about books... so inspiring! I completely lost my sparkle to make art again... and seeing this help me a lot! ❤
Reading is so important, it's one of the best ways to get out of the narrow confines our own minds and see the world from someone else's perspective. By the way, I love the look with your hair pulled back and the lace ribbon in the end: quite radiant and beautiful.
I bought all of Frog & Toad books plus a CD of the author reading all the stories last year for my 36th birthday, I cannot express how much I love these books. 🥰
Could you please continue on these series of books that renew one's interest in life? I'm going through a very challenging time, and need to feel I can still cope in life.
@30secondsflat ~ The Secret Garden is a title you might find helpful and The Door in the Wall another encouraging story. Hope things get better for you soon! 📚💐
My granddaughter and I just finished reading Misty of Chincoteague. It was written in the 50s but it's a lovely story based on fact of the wild horses that live on assateague and are rounded up once a year. We are looking forward to reading the sequel Sea Star. Author Margarite Henry. I read both as a child but didn't remember many details.
I remember reading Wind in the Willows, Beatrix Potter books and also a Winnie the Pooh children book as a kid. Kinda wanna get back to reading them again. They always had that cozy vibe to them.
Thank you for these recommendations! I love Bookish content and would love to see more from you :). To fit the theme, I would recommend the short memoir "The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating" by Elisabeth Tova Bailey. Bedridden and severely ill after contracting a mysterious illness on vacation, Elisabeth can really only stare at the ceiling - she can barely move, can't listen to music or hold up a book. Her friend brings her a snail (more as a joke), but Elisabeth ends up obsessively watching the snail and appreciating every aspect of it's life cycle with detail. The book really zooms in on this small, magical animal and it's very inspiring, especially if you're dealing with a chronic illness like myself. I read this in one sitting too!
I loved James Herriot's story about Oscar the Socialite. A cat that attended different events each night in town. Darts at the pub. The women's yoga sessions, etc.
It makes me so happy anytime I see someone talking about Legends & Lattes. I read it recently and although I knew it would like it, I could not have anticipated falling so deeply in love with it. It might even be my new favorite book of all time. I really can't wait to see more from the author.
Thank you for the recommendations I was a voracious reader as a child. When I was in third or fourth grade I discovered the original Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene. I think I read every one of those books my elementary school library had. I've never lost my love for reading but my eyes get tired easily so I'm not able to read for hours like I used to.
My idea of a good evening is to curl up with a good book. I usually read about history, however I think I may need to branch out into other areas. I enjoy your videos... I've been undergoing some very stressful times lately, and your videos are just so calming and beautiful.
I missed out on children's books as we were very poor when I was a child. I studied literature and art history in college. My favorite book in college was Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf.💚
Ahhh!! I completely forgot the name of James Harriet but had been trying to recall that series as it was very important to me as a child. Thank you for sharing and reconnecting me to an old favorite 💘
Yay for books! Great recommendations. The Forgotten Garden was the first book by Kate Morton I read, and I loved it. I went on to read all her other books, and they are all AMAZING! She really captures what makes books magical. Her books are so intricate and elegant, like fairytales for adults. I highly recommend all of them!!
Also I wanted to mention I adore your fairytale videos!! You are a wonderful story teller coupled with your nature surroundings it's just so magical 🧚♀️
Thank you so much for this precious video. I love books, books, and all things books😊. I come from a family of avid readers. My 4th grade Teacher, Mrs. Savage was so young, and lady like. She used the last 15 minutes of class to read to us from "The Little House In The Big Woods". I was transported to the prairie home of the Ingalls family, and my thirst and love for reading grew even stronger. During our summer breaks from school, my sisters and I lived for the Book Mobile. It stopped in our area every two weeks. We would check out as many books as possible to last for two weeks, and then start all over again. To us, those summers were PRICELESS🤗
I read all three books in the Shady Hollow series after your previous recommendation and really enjoyed spending time with those woodland creatures. Once Upon a River was also previously recommended and my book club really enjoyed reading it. Another adult book with magical realism that I would recommend is The Scent Keeper by Erica Bauermeister about a young girl living on a remote island with her father and learning about the natural world through her senses.
the lost spell, the hidden life of trees, the children's treasuries, the penderwicks, the forgotten garden. I love them already, even before reading them!
As a small child The Very Hungry Caterpillar set me on a life path of the love of reading. I still have a copy and started reading it to my granddaughter. (She’s 3.) We’ve read it so many times she nearly has the story memorized. She loves to sit with the book and read her own rendition. Also, might I recommend Gifts From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. It’s a wonderful book I make a point of reading every year and love to gift it to people.
I mostly watch bookish channels so this is a lovely surprise. Children's books can offer anyone a chance to appreciate and love simpler things which we all need. Thank you for sharing these books.
One of the best things about reading is that a person uses their imagination, and so it naturally increases creativity. This is a lovely list of books that will do that-- thank you!
There is a great CS Lewis quote that I often use to rationalize any adult's love for children's books (including my own): "When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." Children's books are fun, simple, and, more often than not, profound. Why should only children have the pleasure of reading them? I love your videos btw, especially the ones about books. Please do not stop making them!
Thank you for sharing your love of books with us. I have two young children and used to read a lot but have lost time for it as of late. I currently have your book and the boy the mole the fox and the horse in my bag both of which I have found so beyond inspiring. I am so happy to get back into reading again with such wonderfully recommended content. You have truly been so inspiring to me in so many ways. Thank you Paola. 💞
I am an 81 yr. old mom and grammie and have always loved what I use to call the "good old days." Well, I am reading the "Little House On The Prairie" series. I read to my grandchildren etc. and recently decided I wanted to read for myself and enjoying every word. Many of the books you mentioned were read to my children etc. and I have passed on for grandchildren to read. My daughter was 5 yrs. older than her brother and could read at a very early age so she read to her brother. To this day she is also an avid reader.
As a passionate reader myself (even though I'm not that much a reader of children's books): it's always great to listen to people talking about their favorites books. I just finished your book and loved it very much! ❤
So many books, so little time. I am an avid reader and serve as volunteer librarian at my church. I read many genres, mystery first and foremost. Children's books are often worth reading as an adult, and I recently re-read The Wind in the Willows and enjoyed it. I appreciate your recommendations and am glad you spoke on this topic.
I LOVE books and I have loved Frog and Toad since I can remember. I now share them with my grandchildren. ❤ Thank you for sharing these with us! Wishing you a wonderful day. 😊
Thank you for this. I have young grandchildren who love to read to and I think they would like a lot of your recommendations. You are a breath of fresh air! I look forward to more of these “bookish” videos. 😊💜
Paola it is difficult to not be inspired to read especially childrens books which i have always loved the illustrations after watching your video, you light up when speaking about your favourite books its infectious. Thankyou again and as usual you never dissapoint!!!
"The Arrival" by Shaun Tan is absolutely amazing. The story is told with incredibly detailed sepia drawings - there is not a single word in the entire book but the tender, contemporary and uplifting story will haunt you forever.
I second this suggestion and any of Shaun Tan’s books. I loved ‘The Lost Thing’, both the whimsical story (told in very few words) and its comment on how we miss out on the small and important things when we move too fast through life.
Fellow bookworm here and absolutely enjoy getting to hear about some of your favorite books. When you mentioned The Borrows, it reminded me of another series I enjoyed called The Littles. I instantly jumped up to write down these books in hopes I can find them in a local thrift shop. There's something so comforting about revisiting favorite books from childhood ❤
@@lifeinallitsbeauty it was one of my favorite book series growing up! I still like to think that maybe there were little people in my childhood home or even in my home today ☺

Hello The Cottage Fairy, thank you for your enthusiastic delivery. I am also a bookworm and some of the books you recommended i have read and they are really lovely. You are right we definitely need to engage and read more books.....once again thank you
I love this so, so much! I've always loved Brambly Hedge, Frog & Toad, The wind in the willows, etc my whole life. I've always felt a bit guilty for reading them as an adult when I need to de-stress and get me through times of depression. Thanks for posting this...now I feel so happy to know that other adults love these children's books too.!
As I am trying to get back into reading, I could not be more thankful for this video!! I was really hoping that you would make more videos about books because I want to collect every single book you mentioned❤❤❤ it is so hard to find books for people like us who love, simple, sweet, fairy tale like stories. I feel like most of the people around me who read enjoy reading books I would probably not enjoy, so I am so thankful to hear your recommendations.
I can not recommend Legends and Lattes enough! It's one of my new favorite books. It's inspired me to have one of my roleplaying characters, Attila a white tiger cat folk Barbarian, want to open up a cafe when he's done adventuring. 😊 A few months back you had suggested Shady Hollow. I finally read it in May. I loved it! I read so many graphic novels, floppy comics, urban fiction, fantasy, cozy mystery, mysteries. Just not a fan of non-fiction or Victorian lit. There's so much out there, there's something for everyone.
So many precious memories with my children reading Frog and Toad stories. My youngest didn't love to sit still, but would always cuddle in with those books. When he and his wife were pregnant with their first child, he bought a copy to read to his new baby girl, as soon as she was ready. It made my heart sing!!! Thank you for your lovely recommendations!!! I love this video as much as the others!!!

Frog and Toad ❤️☺️❤️ Will always have a soft spot in my heart .
I love the Fairacre and Thrush Green books by Miss Read. Very gentle slices of life in an English village.
Love reading.. I'm 52 and I adore children's literature. This was so fun!!
I’m glad I’m not the only adult that loves kid books. Children’s books have something for everyone. Fun, enchantment and also wisdom.
I adore books, I’m thrilled you made this video.
I am 30 and love and collect the original Nancy Drew books :)
Oh my goodness!! I have never run across another person who loved Alexandra Stoddard’s books!! The one you mentioned was my favorite too! I read through them many times in my 30s and 40s and much of my inspiration for my home came from these.
All of a Kind family! A childhood favorite!
Listening to your accolades as you recommend such interesting books, awakens an inner child that just loves to escape through reading.
James Herriot's books are absolutely wonderful. I haven't read the children's books, but the adult ones are highly entertaining.
The children's collection is wonderful 😊
I loved the adult books
I would add the Invisible Life of Addie Larue. It really made me think about each day, savoring what life has to offer (both good and bad). Honestly, Ill be rereading it again in July with more annotations. "How does one walk to the end of the earth? One step at a time. How does one live forever? One day at a time" (paraphrased)
This brought back so many childhood memories, I absolutely loved all "The Borrowers" books and used to sneak a torch under my blankets at night to keep reading until past midnight on school nights!
I have and read The Hidden Life of Trees. One of my favorites. Fascinating book to read.
Love clan of the cave bear but I’ve struggled with wanting to start valley of horses! This is encouraging to see 😍🙏🏽
Thanks so much for the book recommendations! 🎉
4:04 When I was a kid, my grandma and I read pooh stories whenever I went over to her house--we still do when I visit her, it's a beloved tradition of ours
Our favorite is "In which a search is organdized, and Piglet nearly meets the Heffalump again"; we can barely get through that one without losing our breath laughing
Keep recommending....my bookshelves are bursting with your reading suggestions.....especially anything written by Susan Wittig Albert! You just have no idea of how you have filled the shelves, and I LOVE them all~ Thank you 78 yrs and still reading~
Any books by Sarah Addison Allen are pure delight, I love her characters and the magic she weaves within her stories.
I so LOVED James Harriot. I watched the show and read all the books.❤
You have some kind of bright light in your face when you talk about books... so inspiring!
I completely lost my sparkle to make art again... and seeing this help me a lot! ❤
I love that you allow us to read childrens literature…complex in their simplicity. Good reviews! Thank you❣️
The Wind in the Wiĺows tv series is one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen on tv.
Reading is so important, it's one of the best ways to get out of the narrow confines our own minds and see the world from someone else's perspective. By the way, I love the look with your hair pulled back and the lace ribbon in the end: quite radiant and beautiful.
Whether we see beauty or ugliness depend on the conditions of our hearts.
I love hearing everything you have to say about books! Thank you!
Sending you healing energy and a prayer for strength and courage to keep going.
@@ridendurance thank you
Reading the Bible would help !
I am 64 years old, and while growing up, Misty was one of my favorite books. I read it over and over.
It's so cute how excited you are taking about the books you love!😊
I remember reading Wind in the Willows, Beatrix Potter books and also a Winnie the Pooh children book as a kid. Kinda wanna get back to reading them again. They always had that cozy vibe to them.
Wow! You are truly passionate about books. You glow when you talk about books. Read on!
I just recently read "The Forgotten Garden" by Kate Morton -- what a wonderful, amazing story!! I LOVED it! One of my favourite reads of 2023!
Frog and Toad! That takes me back lol.
Reading is a huge part of my life. I love reading.
Depuis mes 5 ans je n'ai jamais cesse de lire, et j'en ai 66 et je lis toujours autant ❤, merci
Pareil 😊
❤❤❤
Me too :)
Merveilleux. J'ai commencé il y a quelques années. J'ai plusieurs centaines de livres actuellement et j'adoooooore la lecture !
Ces merveilleux!
I am working on my weekly book list in preparation for tomorrow's visit to the library - this video could not have come at a more perfect time!
Wonderful! As a children’s/teen author and a massive lover of children’s literature, I adore your book recommendations!! 💖
One of the best things about reading is that a person uses their imagination, and so it naturally increases creativity. This is a lovely list of books that will do that-- thank you!
Oh wow! At your last video I was thinking to myself 'I wonder if she'll do a full book video'. So.. thank you! Loved this 💜
There is a great CS Lewis quote that I often use to rationalize any adult's love for children's books (including my own): "When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." Children's books are fun, simple, and, more often than not, profound.
I am an 81 yr. old mom and grammie and have always loved
what I use to call the "good old days."
Well, I am reading the "Little House On The Prairie" series.
I read to my grandchildren etc. and recently decided I wanted to read for myself and enjoying every word.
Many of the books you mentioned were read to my children
etc. and I have passed on for grandchildren to read.
'All Creatures Great and Small' (the old version) is why I'm obsessed with England!!!!! Christopher Timothy's voice is THE BEST! 🥰
Thank you for this. I have young grandchildren who love to read to and I think they would like a lot of your recommendations. You are a breath of fresh air! I look forward to more of these “bookish” videos. 😊💜
Where would we be without books? Some of my greatest pleasures have come from reading. Gracias for your list!
@@marnijay2486 I didn't know about "The Lost Thing" so thank you for that recommendation!
I loved The Littles! Not very many people I know remember the series but it inspired a lot of my imaginings as a child (and now).
@@lifeinallitsbeauty it was one of my favorite book series growing up! I still like to think that maybe there were little people in my childhood home or even in my home today ☺
The forgotten garden is my favourite book of all time, I’m so pleased you included it in your recommendations!! I read it during my time doing Creative Writing at university and that’s the genre I most like to read and write in
I absolutely loved this and as a book lover and collector, I can relate to your pure joy of books. Please do more of these “bookish” videos.
A few months back you had suggested Shady Hollow.
I am genuinely looking forward to more bookish content as I love books and really enjoy recommendations from different places. Keep them coming!
Thank you for posting this video and reminding us that there is great value to be had from classics and children’s books, not just modern day self help reading!
I will watch any videos that you make, thank you for taking the time to bring extra calm and joy to are lives ❤❤❤
Look so beautiful of reading the books!!! ❤
