- Salmon is my favorite fish to grill. It turns out great if cooked directly on the grill, but my favorite way to cook it is on a cedar plank. In this video I marinate a pair of Wild Caught Salmon Filets in Green Tea and Ginger, season them up, grill them on Cedar Planks with some veggies as an accompaniment, and finish them off with a Maple Pomegranate Glaze.
Marinade Ingredients
Green Tea Chilled
2 TBSP Crushed Ginger
Rub Ingredients
½ tsp Kosher Salt
½ tsp Coarsely Ground Black Pepper
¼ tsp Dried Dill
¼ tsp Cayenne
Maple Pomegranate Glaze Ingredients
½ cup Maple Syrup
½ cup Pomegranate Juice
1 TBSP Orange Zest

I live by that tea shop! You’ve already inspired me to pick up some planks, off to shop for tea! Thank you for all of the videos you release, I only have the Weber Kettle, and you make everything look so easy and incredible.
Looks delicious. I liked the little bit of char that the veggies picked up when they fell off the cedar plank.
Really liking your channel. Your videos are top notch. You do a really nice job cooking and barbecuing but an equally nice job with your video making. Thank you for all of your very well done content.
I appreciate that!
I love to get creative too with cedar planks. Not be sloppy or just throw eveything on there. It's a passion to show how how you cook.
had it this weekend.. great stuff
Everytime I watcha video I get hungry
good save Ry,salmon is my favorite
looks fabulous!
Great recipe thanks 🙏
This is looks great Ry, the wife will love this one!
Thanks!
My mouth was watering ! Can’t wait to try this
Amazing flavor ideas!
Looks great!
Absolutely beautiful .... wow
Awesome! Ill be making this this week!
You really made that salmon look so good. Cheers, Ry!
This looks great. Thank you!!!
Nice 👍🏻
Looks delicious! Salmon or steelhead on a cedar plank is my favorite! Almost foolproof. I stock up on planks at Costco!
Probably my favorite way to do salmon. Love your channel Ry, you are a big inspiration and my go to for bbq advice!
Thank you!
Nice refinement on a theme. I've been using cedar planks to make salmon for years using brown sugar glaze. Sometimes marinade in Capt Morgan's spiced rum. Never put veggies on the planks tho' Great idea. Will try your green tea marinade too. Thanks for the great videos!
Nice!! Yummy...:-) On the menu... (when summer gets here)
I've had cedar plank salmon about 3 times. it's some of the best you can get on a grill. really cool you used a chinese style rice tea. Gen is made with - Mai is uncooked rice in cantonese- cha is the word for tea.
Wow that looks so good! Hello from SE Texas!
Nice!
Cedar salmon is my favorite, but I've never made it at home. I'll have to give it a go👍
It is really good, once you try it, you'll be hooked.
I like a video that challenges my thought processes. I have made cedar salmon many times and it is a favorite go grilling method but the 2 hour plus marinade gave me pause as being excessive for fish . Enter Ry throwing in a green tea marinade a little extra seasoning with a maple/orange glaze showing no fear. So, I will dutifully follow. Thanks for your diverse and interesting videos. I'm thinking this may be a great method for black cod instead of the usual Japanese umami approach as well.
That’s a great idea with the cod 👍
Going to try soon. A lighter alternative to the mashed potatoes with your other cedar plank salmon recipe, which we love.
Ohhhhhh yeaaaaaaah!
Great video love the channel, one thing I'd recommend is to pull the pin bone's out of the salmon fillet before cooking should be 29 in a full fillet .
Yeah I missed a few 😊
Hey Ry. How long did you marinate that salmon? I’m gonna make this this weekend. Huge fan. I have served probably over a dozen of your dishes.
Usually a couple hours works for me :)
Looks fantastic Ry!!!...What do you do with the cedar planks after use...Can you reuse them or just use them for smoking...
I just use them once 😊
What a delicious meal Ry! I’ve got to try grilling salmon using the cedar planks. Are the ones you used reusable? I’ve seen some you can buy that state they can be reused. Nicely done!
I've never reused them :)
@@CookingWithRy thanks Ry
Please refresh my memory, where did you get the grill grate from?
It's the Malory M1 Cast Iron Grate from Malory Cookware.
Enjoy your videos. Have a char broil electric smoker. Was wondering if In your experience the internal temp swings up 20 degrees from where it is set. If I set it at 160 it will run up to around 180-183 be for dropping down is this normal?
That’s very normal. Ovens do the same thing where the rising heat passes the target temp before settling down a bit.
Thank you😊
Hi Ry how do you save your charcoal? I mean you just cooked tha salmon right? Regards fron Guadalajara Mexico!
Hi! I have a metal container where I keep smothered charcoal once it is cooled so I can reuse it 👍
Where did you get the green tea idea I really wouldn’t have thought that would work but interesting?
I saw a dish in a restaurant that was a pan seared green tea salmon and I thought that might work on the grill 👍
@@CookingWithRy that’s awesome
How charred does the plank get? Tried this yesterday and the base of plank got very charred. Salmon was lovely though. Used store teriyaki marinade. How many times do you use planks?
I only use the planks once. I know that some people scrape them off and reuse them, but I prefer to just use once. My planks get pretty charred :)
I want to like salmon. I’ve tried it many ways. It’s always a bit too “fishy” for me. Tilapia, catfish, mahi-mahi, perch, trout, northern pike - all good!
@Katz Steel
This comment sounds a little fishy
😝😜😂🤢🤢😱
Atlantic Halibut and Atlantic Striped Bass are awesome as well
Non “fishy” tasting
Ry.....would this recipe and procedure work with a "white fish"?
Pretty much. Just watch for that safe doneness that you prefer.
@@CookingWithRy are the Cider planks reusable?
@@karatevideosandmore7685 I don't reuse them :)
Ever tried burgers on cedar plank hamburgers??
No. I've done steak :)
I hate any fish, disgusting to me. I won't miss one of Ryne's videos though. Wouldn't mind making this for other people.
Your method made no sense to me RY
Not sure why. It’s pretty standard.
sounds like a personal problem
