      Yes especially for the lower time controls. You just have to memorize every god damn opening or you'll get baited by some kid and you lose the game.

    The difference came down to white not getting a chance to castle. With his rook trapped he would never be able to give up a tempo to free it in time, not to mention a constant liability for a check skewer.

      The Rapid games had a time control of 25 minutes for the entire game but each time a move was made the player received an additional 10 seconds on the clock.

      @@vedantbhat6150 FIDE has a single, classical time control for most of its major events, 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.

      Competitive chess is a weird place, all top players have a certain amount of respect for each other due to how close they are in skill level, there’s very few opportunities to win which only arise if the opponent makes inaccuracies, if neither player makes mistakes that are punished they agree to draw because it’s mutually beneficial

    I found that final knight move pretty easy but saw it led to nothing more than a repetition and was utterly stumped. Luckily it was the right move :D

    You missed the geopolitics of this game. Aronian is Armenian and Radjabov is Azerbaijani. Their countries were at war recently.

      Not that surprising, Aronian plays the Ragozin full time, so he should know most lines beyond 20 moves. As for Radjabov, he has only moves in many variations, most players could memorize the continuation there, if they knew it before hand in a couple of hours

      His name is neither Rajabov or Radjabov. In Azerbaijani it’s Rəcəbov, and either transliteration is accepted.
